miss handling of the SIGHUP signal for sshd when sshd is started with a relative path sshd_config file
Hi I am just porting ssh-5.2 to my HPUX system. but while I'm doing it, I accidently found a different handling of the sshd for the SIGHUP signal when it is started with a "./sshd_config" and "/sshd_config". The problem is as following: root at sshpa6# uname -a HP-UX sshpa6 B.11.31 U 9000/800 2404418693 unlimited-user license root at sshpa6#

SIGHUP/av[0] restart failure
Hello, OpenSSH 2.5.1p1 running under AIX 4.3.3ML06. When I send a HUP signal to the parent sshd, that parent process dies, it's children get "adopted" by init, and the following message is put in the error log ... Mar 13 12:01:48 whippet sshd[31644]: Received SIGHUP; restarting. Mar 13 12:01:48 whippet sshd[31644]: RESTART FAILED: av[0]='sshd', error: No such file or

sshd_config question
Hi.? I have configured sshd in OpenBSD to require publickey authentication. I've tried configuring FreeBSD to do the same, but I can still login via keyboard authentication. Here are the options I have in my sshd_config: PasswordAuthentication no ChallengeResponseAuthentication no UsePAM no After setting those options I kill -HUP the sshd? process. Is there something simple I am missing?

The complete answer (was Re: so-called-hang-on-exit)
Ok, so I think I have a complete explanation for the difference between the *BSD behaviour and the Linux/Solaris behaviour. Well, almost complete :) Pull out your trusty copies of "The Design and Implementation of the 4.4BSD Operating System" as well as "Unix Internals: The New Frontiers". Specifically, pages 111-112 and 344 of the former and page 108 of the latter. It comes

auth socket goes away on reload
We're using the SQLite backend for authentication of Postfix SASL. When the db is replaced we HUP dovecot to close and reopen its connection. During this time it appears the socket file is removed and Postfix rejects the authentication attempt. OpenSSH - forced command - no-pty issue
Hello Darren, The major problem we are running into is that the shell (both sh and ksh) does not kill its child processes when there is no pty. The SSH patch mentioned previously at http://bugzilla.mindrot.org/show_bug.cgi?id=396 is not sufficient to kill the forced command completely. It will only kill the shell script, but not any child processes the shell script runs. The shell assumes the

Update ezstream playlist 'on the fly'
Hi, I'm using ezstream to stream a list of mp3 files to my icecast2 server which works great. I'm using a m3u playlist file which ezstream reads when it starts and rereads when it loops. The problem is that this playlist is quite long and I would like to be able to inject a song last minute some where in the playlist. I have two options at the moment to do this: - restart ezstream -

a few questions about my experience with alpha1
Hi all, I've just switched from 0.99.10.6 to alpha1 on a Solaris 9 system, and I have a few questions: 1) I'm using "verbose_proctitle = yes" but I don't see the special username or IP address information in the output of ps. I've used: ps -fu dovecot ps -ef | grep dovecot /usr/ucb/ps aux | grep dovecot The process table simply shows the /usr/local/sbin/dovecot,

httpd crashes after signal HUP
Hello I'm running CentOS 5.3 with httpd-2.2.3-22.el5.centos.x86_64 and php-5.1.6-23.2.el5_3.x86_64. When the logrotate scripts run and send the HUP signal to httpd, the httpd process quits instead of reloading. The only thing I can find in the logs is this: [Sun Apr 19 04:02:04 2009] [notice] seg fault or similar nasty error detected in the parent process There wasn't any segfault

smb.conf question
While the Samba server is running, does it ever refresh the contents of the smb.conf file, or do you have to restart the server for it to see changes to the smb.conf file? Thanks in advance. How to upgrade a running Dovecot?
Greetings - Could someone confirm how to perform various upgrades on a live system running Dovecot please? Scenario 1: Change to dovecot.conf =================================== If I make a change to dovecot.conf am I right in thinking I can simply send a HUP signal to the main dovecot process to get it to re- read the configuration file and act on its revised content? Need Help: Sometimes Stop during smbd start
Hi during Startup of SuSE-Linux 7.2 Prof. the PC is sometimes ( 1 of 10 times) stopping by start smbd. Reset knop the help only. I have this problem with the samba version in SuSE package and version 2.2.5 too. In the file ../rc3.d/S12smb I added 2 lines to see if nmbd and smbd are startet. I see nmbd is starting always, the text "SAMBA smbd gestartet" is in case of fault not printing.
