Testing POP3 with telnet - password always wrong
Hello, I just installed the postfix and dovecot packages according to the document, http://www.debianadmin.com/debian-mail-server-setup-with-postfix-dovecot-sasl-squirrel-mail.html And it has been quite helpful. It looks like Dovecot works because I can communicate with it on port 110. I can't help but feel I am doing something stupid though... The web page listed above told me to test

ppp connection only every second time
hello everyone, i am setting up my computer and want to establish internet connection over ADSL. For this i have to use pptp. The annoying thing is, that doing 'pptp 10.0.0.138' i get a connection only every second time. R on MacOS X
I just got a G4 running MacOS 10.3 today, so I immediately downloaded R from CRAN. To my disappointment, it insists on installing in a fixed place and requires a root password to do so. University policy is that if your machine is on the net, you WON'T get root access nohow, unless you're a designated sysadmin, which I'm not. Is there any alternative to downloading a source

exim4 + dovecot + SquirrelMail virtualhosted on Debian
Hello, I have a Debian machine that is virtual-hosting 6 domains with exim4. I finally got exim4 working well enough where I can send and receive mail using the mail command on my machine. I would eventually like to have SquirrelMail (which requires IMAP) working on my website. For whatever reason, exim4 doesn't seem to support IMAP. I found out that Dovecot is a prominent IMAP server.

Question about BUILTIN\Administrators and BUILTIN\Users nested groups in 3.3.3
Sorry about the dumb question: Are the "BUILTIN\Administrators" and "BUILTIN\Users" local (nested) groups supposed to be populated with DOMAINNAME\Domain Administrators and DOMAINNAME\Domain Users (respectively) by default? If I download the Redhat Samba package, they are populated. Not so with a compiled version. I've had a helluva time populating BUILTIN\Administrators

As part of this process, I will be copying several maildirs to the new machine. One of these has a number of files and directories that resemble this one example: cur/ dovecot.index dovecot.index.cache dovecot.index.log dovecot.mailbox.log dovecot-uidlist

Soft Deletes
How would I go about setting up my rails applications to soft delete items from the database rather than actually deleting it. I would imagine that I need to over ride the methods from ActiveRecord. Where would I do this would it be in the model? enviroment.rb? I would imagine that if i wanted it throughout my entire application it would need to be in the enviroment.rb. Also to

What is the best way to have "R" output tables in an MS Word format?
Dear "R" list, Our statisticians usually give us results back in a PDF format. I would like to be able to copy and past tables from "R" output directly into a Microsoft Word table since this will save us tons of time, be more accurate to minimize human copying errors and help us update data in our papers more easily. Do people have suggestions for the best way to do this? I

NEAX 2000 IVS Integration
Greetings all, This is my first post to this forum, so please be kind. I am looking to integrate Asterisk as our primary voice mail server (IVS) for our NEC NEAX 2000 IVS. We currently use a 6-port Mitel system. The two communicate via analog TDM ports and a MCI serial connection. Is anyone familiar with setting up a NEAX 2000 with Asterisk as an IVR server? I know I would need six FXO and

R warning and error messages taking a long time and generating pop-up windows
Hi all, thanks for your help in advance. I was running some scripts and suddenly R began taking a very long time to process mundane errors, which I often generate since I am new to R...such as forgetting to add in my quote getOption(warn) Error in options(x) : object 'warn' not found Not only does the warning message print in the R console when it finally writes the error, but it also

Vector of Vectors
I have a matrix of data. I need to scan the matrix and find every sequence from maxima to maxima across a row. I can write a loop to do this easily. Problem is, I can't figure out how to store the results. Each result is a vector of widely varying lengths. Ideally I'd like a vector of these, i.e. a vector of vectors, so I can quickly iterate through them and compute correlation
