How do tzdata changes get made?
Hi All, I guess this is a political question rather than technical. New Zealand is probably extending daylight saving time with a bill currently being drafted. It will (most likely) change the end data of dst by pushing it out ~3 weeks. My question; AFAIK CentOS/whitebox/et. al. should not make any changes to tzdata - it is an upstream issue, but how do we ensure that 'upstream'

RMagick Instant Rails install problem
Anyone help with this? Am running Instant Rails on Win XP Sp2. Have downloaded the RMagick-win32-1.9.2 files into c:\Instant-Rails-1.0\temp from the rubyforge site. Running "Gem install RMagick-win32-1.9.2-mswin32.gem" from the temp directory seems to work giving me a "Successfully installed RMagick-win32, version 1.9.2" message. However, when I then try and go

Replay mail to test MTA + filtering
Hi All, My kit : Centos4.4 + Postfix + SA + ClamAV (not that its relevant) General question - Does anyone know of a product which can take a folder / mbox of mail (spam, ham, virus infected stuff, scam mail and hoaxes) and "replay" it back against a test server to determine the servers ability to filter? I have looked at some low level (IP) packet replayers, but i cant really find

Patch to update contrib/solaris package builder
I've attached a patch for contrib/solaris package builder to bring it up to date with OpenSSH 2.9p1. The changes are: build-pkg - add libexec/ directory creation (to house sftp-server) cp sftp-server to libexec/ cp sftp.1 to man/man1 cp sftp to bin/ postinstall.in - add RSA key generation and installation/update prototype - add sftp, sftp.1 and sftp-server Btw, 2.9p1 is

cygwin rsync and ascii files
I am ysyncing text files between NT/95/XP machines and Solaris. I noted that the text/ascii files created on the windows platforms contain ^M at the end of each line when transfered to the Solaris system. This can be explained by the binary transmission and can use FTP is ASCII mode to prevent this from happening. It is crutial that we preserve the time stamp, so running dos2unix isn't one

HP (compaq) RAID - How to get alerts?
Hi All, Background: I have HP RAID setups (Smart Array 5, shows up as /dev/cciss/c0d0) on my DL380s, and they run great with CentOS. I have had a drive failure (HDD lights up amber), so I pulled the HDD, replaced it and the RAID controller rebuilt the array in a jiffy - no probs. My question: I cant find anything in the logs to alert me that a drive failed - this makes sense since the RAID

pptp, ipsec and vpn
Hi All, This is a general VPN question; PPTP VPNs seem to be very easy to set up with CentOS as the VPN server and the built-in windose client, but how do list members feel about the security vunerabilities reported with the MS implementation? Specifically the 6 problems reported here : http://www.schneier.com/pptp-faq.html or maybe im being paranoid? Would any of you roll this solution out

rsyslog as default syslog daemon?
Hi all! Is anybody here using rsyslog? I am looking for the right solution how to use rsyslog in CentOS 5 as the default logging daemon. We use it because of filtering using regular expressions. I switched from sysklogd to rsyslog simply using chkconfig --del syslog chkconfig --add rsyslog chkconfig rsyslog on service syslog stop service rsyslog start but this seems not to be

Mapping a network drive to a Windows Drive Letter
We have this working. however Some developers edit files using "windows editors" and when they then copy them to the Windows Drive Letter which is mapped to a Unix machine, the resultant file is full of ^M characters..... build breaks..... and so on Until now we have been telling users to run "dos2unix" beforehand, but somebody told me that "Samba" can

[PATCH] contrib/cygwin/Makefile: Install ssh-copy-id
Hi, could somebody with checkin rights please apply the below patch to the Cygwin postinstall Makefile? The patch adds two changes: - Install ssh-copy-id and ssh-copy-id.1 as well. - Gzip all man pages. what updates /etc/localtime?
I see in CentOS 7 that /etc/localtime is a symlink (which seems sensible...) but in earlier versions it is a copy of some file from under /usr/share/zoneinfo. rpm -q --scripts tzdata does not show any postinstall script, so in the non-symlink versions, how does the copied /etc/localtime file get updated with new zone data? -- Les Mikesell lesmikesell at gmail.com

patch for openssh/contrib/solaris/buildpkg.sh
Here is a small patch for OpenSSH 3.2.3p1.. When the package postinstall script runs, it presumes that the package will be installed relative to the current / directory.. If this package is installed as part of a Solaris Jumpstart installation, this will not be the case. Consequentially, the /etc/ssh/sshd_config.default will never get copied to /etc/ssh/sshd_config on the new operating system.

Problem with Thunderbird and mailbox with SPECIAL-USE flag
Hi ! I have an old Courier IMAP and in front of it, I have put a proxy cache with the great Dovecot. SOGo webmail is connected to the proxy and works great (very very more fast) but I have a problem with Thunderbird : mailbox with ? SPECIAL USE ? aren't automatically detected. To make that works, I must : - in Dovecot : define the namespace inbox : ? prefix = ? and ? separator = . ? - in

Anaconda allows x86_64 CD/DVD to be used to install i386 system
As subject says. I just noticed that Anaconda allows x86_64 CD/DVD to be used to install i386 system (using network installation, of course). This is basically broken. For example, yum will believe that it is installed on x86_64, not on i386. So when you do for example yum update, it will try to install x86_64 packages on i386 system. Which isn't going to fly, since installed

xxx not available for .C in package yyy
Hi R package developers. This is literally the strangest thing I've ever seen. Latest (as of a month ago) R under cygwin64. I'm teaching an intern package building and using the .C interface. The package compiles, but when it gets to "setting up lazy load" or some such it throws the error "triang" not available for .C() in package "randpkg". Upon checking,

Printer: User Intervention Required - Use Printer Offline
For some reason, I cannot get samba (or Win98, depending on how you look at it...) to allow a win98 client to print. I search the list archives, but I didn't find anything similar. So here goes. Symptoms: - Win98 client can access fileshares OK. The printers show up OK as well in network neighbourhood. - On Linux, printing (lprng) works OK. - In win98, e.g. dir >
