SMTP configuration for director mail cluster
HI All,
I have setup my Dovecot director proxies and Dovecot backend mail
stores.? I intend setting up several incoming and outgoing Exim
MTA's.? I am a bit confused about what I need to run on the backend
Dovecot MTA's to get the incoming mail delivered to them.? Do I need
to install Exim on them or use LMTP to receive mail from the MTA's??
Also, can I directly deliver mail to the

Dsyncing mail in director setup
Hi All,
I have a pair of dovecot director proxies and six dovecot backend mailstores
using NFS v4.1 to access five filesystems on EMC VNX NFS storage. This is
all working fine until I try and dsync new email mailboxes via one of the
mailstores onto the NFS storage. I get major NFS lockups at random on one
or more of the mailstores with none of the NFS mounts accessible on one or
more of the

dsync mirror to mailstores in director setup
Hi All,
I have dsync mirror command working between a standalone dovecot
server and a backend mailstore in a Dovecot Director setup.?? Is it
safe to do the dsync directly to the backend mailstore in this setup?
It doesn't seem to work via the director proxy.
Thanks

Dsync via dovecot proxy
Hi All,
I need to import mailboxes into my Director NFS setup via
one of my director proxy's as doing a direct dsync to the backend
mailstores appears to giving me NFS locking issues. It looks like it may
be possible to do this using doveadm listeners. I have setup doveadm
listeners on a test proxy and backend mailstore. I am not sure how to
make the dsync proxy through to the backend

Dovecot mailstore performance tuning
HI All,
We have a couple of dovecot director proxies and six backed mailstores
each accessing mailboxes stored on five NFSv4 filsystems with about
1TB of mail on each in maildir format.? We have about 800 max users
on each mailstore at peak times and performance appears to starting to
degrade at these times.? The mailstores are pretty recent hardware
with 64GB of RAM and 24 cores.?? The NFS

Dovecot failing with exit code 19200 in cron job
Hi All,
I am synchronizing a few hundred dovecot mailboxes with a perl script
via a crontab. ? It works for a while (ie exit status=0)? but the
rest then start failing with exit code 19200.?? I tried redirecting
STDERR but showed nothing.? I suspect the cron job is hitting some
sort of resource limit?? If I run the perl script from the command
line it appears to dsync all the accounts OK.?? The

Getting Director Proxy Working
Hi All,
I can't get directory proxying of pop3 and imap working.? The
director stuff appears to be OK - see below.?? The ldap
authentication is working on the backend mail server.? I just get
connection refused when I telnet to the proxy on the pop3 and imap
ports.? Nothing appears to be running on the pop3 and imap ports
despite the lines in the config below.? I am not sure what to do from

Large Scale Cluster using dsync and tagged director
Just been reading up on some of dovecot features and was wondering if
anyone had played around with large scale systems made up from mutliple
small dsync clusters and using tagged director to split users between
nodes of a sync'd cluster (rather than nfs).
I know traditionally its been shared storage and multiple nodes and
dovecots own doco suggest dsync for several thousands rather than

Deleted mails in dsync backups
Hello
we are doing regular backups of the mdbox mail folders using
dsync -u username backup mdbox:/somedir/BACKUPS/username
(still with version 2.1.10, but 2.2.5 is in testing phase)
We do observe that the directory size in the BACKUPS directory is
growing with respect to the original mail folders. I believe this is due
to deleted mails not being purged in the backup. We are doing regular

Architecture for large Dovecot cluster
Hi All,
I am trying to determine whether a mail server cluster based on Dovecot
will be capable of supporting 500,000+ mailboxes with about 50,000 IMAP
and 5000 active POP3 connections. I have looked at the Dovecot
clustering suggestions here:
http://blog.dovecot.org/2012/02/dovecot-clustering-with-dsync-based.html
and some other Dovecot mailing list threads but I am not sure how many

Safely restoring backups
I'm trying to determine what the best way to restore mail with mdbox
is. Restoring using maildir was trivial, I just used rsync
--ignore-existing which wrote any mails that were removed and didn't
touch things that already existed[1]. With mdbox things have become more
complicated, and I haven't found a way to restore mail that doesn't
result in many message duplicates.

We have our mailboxes on several NFS filesystems mounted with the

Trying to get Dovecot Director Proxying working
Hi All,
Firstly, thanks for all the really helpful responses to my previous
questions "Architecture for large Dovecot cluster" and "Sizing MTA
servers".
I am now trying to get a Dovecot director proxy working with a single
backend mail server. When I try to connect to the dovecot proxy on the
pop3 and imap ports I get connection refused. I want the
authentication to

Integrity check of mailboxes before dsync
Hi All,
I am migrating a large number of Dovecot mailboxes - some of them are
quite old.? I hit an issue yesterday with a corrupt file (index?)
that was preventing the mailbox from being synced properly? As soon
as I removed the file the dsync worked.? Is there a way to check the
integrity of each mailbox / indexes before I dsync it???
Thanks

dsync backup; compressed to uncompressed
I need to backup some of the mailboxes on our system. We are currently using mdbox with zlib compression plugin.
The backups need to be maildir without compression. How can I accomplish this using dsync?
The following just causes each msg file in maildir to be compressed as well.
dsync -f -u user1 backup maildir:/var/tmp/user1
While this just causes the dsync to fail while spewing a bunch of
