Ubuntu packages and broken link in docs
Hi,
Two things:
1. Does anyone know of a good PPA with updated packages of Dovecot for
Ubuntu? "For the latest Dovecot for latest Ubuntu LTS see Xiaoka APT
Repository. (Outdated. Could someone provide a ppa for latest stable
Dovecot, please?)"
2. On the http://wiki2.dovecot.org/PrebuiltBinaries#Ubuntu page there
is a link to a supposedly outdated PPA, the ppa page now redirects to

Complete migration from Cyrus on remote server
Hi All!
I am working on a complete migration from an old solaris machine
running Cyrus IMAP v2.3.14 and wish to migrate all users to a new
ubuntu
vm running Dovecot 2.0.19.
What I have so far is a fully functional dovecot installation with LDAP
/ Dovecot SASL auth using Maildir++.
My plan is to use Perdition IMAP proxy on a third host and migrate
users a few at a time (see attached picture of

Dsync error: Couldn't drop privileges: getgrnam
Hi,
I upgraded (in place upgrade, preserving my dovecot configs) to a newer
release of ubuntu in order to gain access to slightly newer Dovecot
release and be able to use Dsync for migration from Cyrus, here is my
doveconf -n output:

Confusing wording on the wiki
Hi,
I am confused by the wording of this Wiki entry:
sieve = ~/.dovecot.sieve
The path to the user's main active Sieve script. When ManageSieve is
used, this is a symbolic link pointing to the active script in the
sieve_dir directory. Avoid placing the active Sieve script inside the
sieve_dir directory.
So this should be a link *to* the active script in the sieve_dir
directory

3.04 acl new user/group adding problem
Hi all
I've written a few mails to the list hoping that I might get some hint to what
mistake I've been making in configuring my samba server with acl support, but
haven't been able to figure out much to date. I'm sending some parts of my
log files with a description of my problem as a last hope-- I will have to go
through the manuals from cover to cover if I dont get an

Error in M[, 1] : incorrect number of dimensions when trying to plot hexbin
Hello again,
I am trying to plot out activity regions the user did on the screen via
plotting a hexbin. I have 20 users whose information i want to plot out
and it stops in the user 16 with the message Error in M[, 1] : incorrect
number of dimensions. Any advice would be appreciated as i dont see why
this error occurs on the data for the 16th user. All the other users get

Rsync deletion issue on failure
I didn't see this in the man page or after a cursory Google search.
I'm rsync-ing a file from computer A to computer B and the file does
not exist yet on computer B. My problem is that on a shoddy Internet
connection, if rsync fails due to a connection error, the dot file it
creates on computer B is deleted and I have to start the rsync all
over from the beginning.
Is there a way to

AD group membership script
Everyone,
Today I was trying to find a way to list the members of one or more
groups in a domain. There may be a built-in way to do it, but I didn't
find it. After a half hour or so of looking, I figured I could write a
Perl script much quicker. So I did and thought I'd share it in case
anyone else might need it or find a use for it. The script determines
group membership by the

samba3.0.1/win2000ad/kerberos5: user cannot logon
Hi everyone!
I've googled alot for this, and found *some* people with similar
questions, but there was no answer if this is a bug in samba, a
misconfiguration, or what?
I have a win2000 active directory Server (wurzel.baum.local), a samba
2.2.3a on debian stable/woody (stamm.baum.local), security = user, a
samba 3.0.1 on debian testing/Sarge (blatt1.baum.local) and a windowsxp

samba setup.exe rant part 2
this was previously posted only on samba-ntdom, but that was probably
not the right list so i'm cross-posting to both samba and samba-ntdom.
here's the problem:
on NT4 w/ SP4 or SP5, self-extracting 16-bit install files work just
fine in directories w/ Long File Names.
on SAMBA 2.0.5a, i can get none of the aforementioned files to install
from directories w/ Long File Names.

dsync incredibly slow
Hi!
While performing a dsync from cyrus imap to dovecot 2.2.12, dsync seems
to stop for perhaps a minute without disk / cpu / memory activity (that
I can see). This happens several times per sync per user so it takes an
enormous amount of time to sync just a couple of gigs of mail.
dsync -D -v -o mail_fsync=never mirror -f -R -u user at example.com imapc:
What could possibly be the cause of

replicator only starts for users who log in at least once
Hi!
I recently setup a second with replication to the other. Both machines
run ubuntu 12.04 with dovecot 2.2.13 (6bb26098a45c).
All users mail accounts are currently synced manually to the first
(mb1) using a dsync script, they are synchronised from a cyrus imap
server. Users are still logging into the cyrus server.
It appears that the only accounts that are replicated are ones who have

Connection reset by peer / The network is busy
I have seen posts concerning this in the archives, but with no real
solution. I've seen it first-hand twice now.
I am running Debian Woody, with us3.samba.org's Samba 3 sources added to my
apt-sources. 3.0.2a was the first version of Samba installed. The
SMB.conf is used off of a previous "Test" system, then updated to reflect
changes in the network as it stands now.

Dovecot failing with exit code 19200 in cron job
Hi All,
I am synchronizing a few hundred dovecot mailboxes with a perl script
via a crontab. ? It works for a while (ie exit status=0)? but the
rest then start failing with exit code 19200.?? I tried redirecting
STDERR but showed nothing.? I suspect the cron job is hitting some
sort of resource limit?? If I run the perl script from the command
line it appears to dsync all the accounts OK.?? The

Dovecot readable compressed mail archive
Hello.
Is Dovecot able to create and/or read any sort of compressed mail
archive? We have a large installation with a few users who need to keep
a large amount of email available. With maildir this means a large
number of individual files, leading to additional load on our backup
process. Even using a compressed mbox file as an archive would help,
but only if Dovecot is able to interact

Baldur's Gate 2: Shadows of Amn - failure to run
To come clean at the very beginning of all this, I'm a very new Linux user - my Windows XP computer decided to destroy itself and so Ubuntu was my only choice in lieu of buying another copy of an already shoddy operating system.
Because the Baldur's Gate 2 CDs do not have copy-protection, I simply copied their contents into a single folder in c: within wine's invisible directory.

AMP with SUSE9.2 (Apache2)
Hi all,
After pinging the AMP userlist at SourceForge, I got a great step by
step explanation as to how to set up AMP for Apache2 (some maybe obvious
stuff that wasn't in the Newbie Guide).
Thanks to Jason Becker of Coalescent Systems.
If anyone needs me to post Jason's instructions here, I can, but they
are in a thread called "AMP noob issues with Apache2/Suse9.2" at
