Problems setting up SIS (duplicate files with same hash)
Hi everyone,
I am currently trying to setup our next dovecot server (2.2.18) with SIS
enabled, but I have enconutered 1 problem and 1 question:
*1) Same attachment, different filenames*
I have a feeling a misconfigured something (or forgot to do something)
because SIS almost works, but not quite since 3 identical attachment take
3x the space (see end of email for my SIS config).
For 3 the

"doveadm backup/sync" are badly documented
Most documents around there talk abour "dsync", but the modern way is
"doveadm backup". This command is not documented in the wiki and there
are a few details missing, like how to use it thru SSH.
I am currently doing some tests about how to backup my mdbox. I can do
tests in local using:
$ doveadm backup -u jcea -m proveedores/dovecot mdbox:/tmp/aa/

Pools are not persistent
Hi all!
I'm trying virt-manager on Debian Wheezy and I noticed that it has
already defined a "default" pool. But if I run:
# /etc/init.d/libvirt-bin restart
I lose the definition of the pools. Actually, there are the definitions
of the pools; but these are not read after restarting libvirt.

where are stored attachments
Sorry, I have checked before I wrote first post. Based on docs - the path
should be in /etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf or /etc/dovecot/conf.d/10-mail.conf
(I have Ubuntu 16.04 LTS). I have some familiar lines in 10-mail.conf:
#mail_attachment_dir =
#mail_attachment_min_size = 128k
#mail_attachment_fs = sis posix
#mail_attachment_hash = %{sha1}
but all these lines are commented out. So - in theory -

Single instance storage
I have read most of the doc on the dovecot website, and couldn't find any
info on the single instance storage feature, so I'm posting my questions
here.
- Are these 3 parameters the only one necessary for single instance
storage? I cannot find any doc on this feature on the website; is there
anything specific I need to know about them? (the last one isn't exactly
self-explanatory).

Based on this you are not using SIS, so I wonder if those are some old
emails when you were using SIS?
Can you provide an example corpus of such mail? You can use e.g.
https://www.dovecot.org/tools/dbox-anonymize.pl
https://www.dovecot.org/tools/maildir-obfuscate.pl
https://www.dovecot.org/tools/mbox-anonymize.pl
https://www.dovecot.org/tools/mdbox-obfuscate.pl
to obfuscate the mail.

New log entries with 2.0.19?
I just upgraded my Ubuntu server from 11.10 to 12.04.1 and that upgraded
Dovecot to 2.0.19. For some reason I'm getting a lot more (5 times)
disconnect in IDLE and inactivity time outs. I'm using only IMAP with
two users. Both users access the server from multiple devices, phone,
tablet and desktop computer. I had previously set the
max_userip_connections to 20 and rarely got the

disable_plaintext_auth = no as no effect on IMAP/POP3 logins
Hello
In my installation the disable_plaintext_auth does not appear to take
effect.
I can see that the value is correct using doveconf -a but it doesn't
change anything.
Whenever attempting to log in using IMAP I get this:
* BAD [ALERT] Plaintext authentication not allowed without SSL/TLS, but
your client did it anyway. If anyone was listening, the password was
exposed.

Dovecot 2.0.9: Thunderbird 3.1.9: Very slow while open sent folder with many (4k>) mails
hi,
one customer told us, that he has performance problem in his Thunderbird
3.1.9, while open his sent folder, which has round about 4000 mails in
it, and 20k in his Inbox. For example TB, tries to sync the sent-folder
list (over SSL) from the sent folder for now over 15min.
In the log, I can't see any strange things, so for me, Dovecot works ok.
Maybe, I should use better cache options?

Dovecot never release preallocated space in mdbox
Hello everyone,
I am currently evaluating dovecot for our new email production servers
(20k+ mailboxes) and found out something strange.
I'm using those settings on Dovecot 2.2.4 (x86_64 / Slackware / compiled
from sources)
mdbox_rotate_size = 128M
mdbox_rotate_interval = 1d
mdbox_preallocate_space = yes
with virtual users and location like :
mail_location = mdbox:~/mdbox
I don't

Maildir or Mdbox and expunge messages.
Hello.
I tested dovecot's work with expunge messages on Mdbox over strace (see
at tail of message). As I can see dovecot process opens old storage m.*
file, reads it content, opens new temporary file, writes in this one
content and rename this new one to m.(*+1).
How fast this algorithm works on system with about 10000 users and 5Tb
data? I will use mdbox_rotate_interval for delayed expunge
