Dovecot mailstore performance tuning
HI All,
We have a couple of dovecot director proxies and six backed mailstores
each accessing mailboxes stored on five NFSv4 filsystems with about
1TB of mail on each in maildir format.? We have about 800 max users
on each mailstore at peak times and performance appears to starting to
degrade at these times.? The mailstores are pretty recent hardware
with 64GB of RAM and 24 cores.?? The NFS

Dsync via dovecot proxy
Hi All,
I need to import mailboxes into my Director NFS setup via
one of my director proxy's as doing a direct dsync to the backend
mailstores appears to giving me NFS locking issues. It looks like it may
be possible to do this using doveadm listeners. I have setup doveadm
listeners on a test proxy and backend mailstore. I am not sure how to
make the dsync proxy through to the backend

Dsyncing mail in director setup
Hi All,
I have a pair of dovecot director proxies and six dovecot backend mailstores
using NFS v4.1 to access five filesystems on EMC VNX NFS storage. This is
all working fine until I try and dsync new email mailboxes via one of the
mailstores onto the NFS storage. I get major NFS lockups at random on one
or more of the mailstores with none of the NFS mounts accessible on one or
more of the

SMTP configuration for director mail cluster
HI All,
I have setup my Dovecot director proxies and Dovecot backend mail
stores.? I intend setting up several incoming and outgoing Exim
MTA's.? I am a bit confused about what I need to run on the backend
Dovecot MTA's to get the incoming mail delivered to them.? Do I need
to install Exim on them or use LMTP to receive mail from the MTA's??
Also, can I directly deliver mail to the

Dovecot failing with exit code 19200 in cron job
Hi All,
I am synchronizing a few hundred dovecot mailboxes with a perl script
via a crontab. ? It works for a while (ie exit status=0)? but the
rest then start failing with exit code 19200.?? I tried redirecting
STDERR but showed nothing.? I suspect the cron job is hitting some
sort of resource limit?? If I run the perl script from the command
line it appears to dsync all the accounts OK.?? The

dsync replication errors
Hi
I'm trying to build a cluster of two servers with dsync replication
(based on http://wiki2.dovecot.org/Replication). My test setup works
fine for very simple tests, I can log in to both servers, copy a
message to one of the servers and it successfully apperars in the other
account. But, if I try to copy a large amount of messages at once to
one of the accounts, my maillogs get flodded with

Direct groups of users to pairs of backend mailstores?
Hi All,
We are using Dovecot in a Director setup with two director proxies,
six backend mailstores, mailbox storage in NFS, and user accounts
stored in LDAP.?? Currently we have five NFS filesystems on EMC VNX
storage which are all mounted on each of the six backend
mailstores.?? At the moment all users could be directed to any of
the six mailstores.? We have a group of users with very large

Test outgoing email on director setup
HI All,
I have a several Exim MTA's relaying mail to a pair of director
proxies via LMTP which then relayi to several mailstores via LMTP??
Incoming mail is working fine.?
My outgoing mail uses LMTP also in the reverse of above.?? How do I
manually test outgoing mail on the mailstores and proxies as I only
have dovecot and not exim installed on them?
I have the following set in

Clear a single user mapping in Director setup
Hi All,
We are using Dovecot director setup.? Is there a command to clear a
single user's mapping to a backend mailstore?? This would be useful
on occasions.? I couldn't find any command to do it.
Thanks

Direct groups of users to pairs of backend servers
Hi All,
I am using dovecot in the Director setup with multiple proxy and
backend mailstores and user information stored in LDAP.? I am aware
users can be directed to a single backend server.? It would be useful
to be able to direct groups of users to pairs of backend servers to
give some fault tolerance against NFS issues and make the whole thing
more scalable.??? Otherwise each backend mailstore

dsync mbox->mdbox II: highest_modseq changed
Hi again,
after replacing CRLF in 4 mboxes dsync was able to sync all of the 30+GB
mailstore to mdbox.
Now the (repeated) calling of dsync yields info messages of the kind
dsync(athimm): Info: old/speicher: highest_modseq changed: 1 != 10
dsync(athimm): Info: root/root-heretic: highest_modseq changed: 1 != 10

dsync conversion and ldap attributes

and the dovecot-ldap.conf.ext specifies:

Bad exit status from dsync
I just tried to migrate one of my users from maildir to mdbox using
dsync. My conversion script is checking the dsync exit code to know if
the conversion goes fine or not, and surprisingly dsync returned "0" at
the same time as it gave the error:
Error: Failed to sync mailbox .ta\ vare\ p? ...
(sorry, lost the rest of the error message)

Multiple Mailstores using 1.0alpha4
I am using qmail-ldap to provide virtual users to my system, but I also
have some shell users on the system as well.
Virtual users go into /home/vmail/mailstore/$username/
System users go into /home/$username/Maildir
How can I have both of these available as inboxes in dovecot using ldap
logins?
Do I need to use namespaces or am i missing something with
default_mail_env?
Thanks,

Director NFS backups
Hi All,
What is the recommended method of taking backups of user mailboxes
when using the Director setup with NFS backend mail storage???? Is
there any way to avoid the likely NFS locking issues by backing up the
filesystem directly or do I have to do some sort of dsync method.? If
I have to use dsync can I dsync the mailboxes to compressed copies of
the mailboxes without requiring another

Migrating with dsync and INBOX.INBOX namespace issue
I'm working on migrating IMAP users from Mirapoint Message Servers to Dovecot servers. The Mirapoint IMAP server uses INBOX as a namespace for private mailboxes. I created the same namespace in Dovecot, but when I migrate mailboxes dsync seems to ignore/miss the namespace on Mirapoint and I end up with all mailboxes under a INBOX.INBOX hierarchy.

Integrity check of mailboxes before dsync
Hi All,
I am migrating a large number of Dovecot mailboxes - some of them are
quite old.? I hit an issue yesterday with a corrupt file (index?)
that was preventing the mailbox from being synced properly? As soon
as I removed the file the dsync worked.? Is there a way to check the
integrity of each mailbox / indexes before I dsync it???
Thanks

Large Scale Cluster using dsync and tagged director
Just been reading up on some of dovecot features and was wondering if
anyone had played around with large scale systems made up from mutliple
small dsync clusters and using tagged director to split users between
nodes of a sync'd cluster (rather than nfs).
I know traditionally its been shared storage and multiple nodes and
dovecots own doco suggest dsync for several thousands rather than

Failing: doveadm sync <--remote host--> dsync mirror
Hi --
I'm used to dsync my two mailservers running 2.0.16.
Today, I did upgrade one server to 2.1, and doveadm sync is throwing to following error:
mail> doveadm sync -f -u test ssh vmail at remote-host.tld dsync -v -f -u test
doveadm(test): Fatal: All your namespaces have a location setting. It should be empty (default mail_location) in the namespace to be converted.
