Suggestion: Split login_trusted_networks
Hi, For the upcoming 2.3 development, I'd like to re-suggest this: It seems the use of login_trusted_networks is overloaded. Example: * It's used for indicating which hosts you trust to provide XCLIENT remote IP's. (like a proxy) * It's used for indicating from which hosts you trust logins enough to disable auth penalty. (like in a webmail) Often these two uses cases have a

Dovecot Submission Proxy Auth
Hi, Just found out that Postfix does not implement/support the AUTH=sender parameter. So, back to Dovecot, can we use variables in the submission_relay_user = submission_relay_password = then Dovecot will forward the username and password information of the current user to the Postfix submission service for authentication? Submission / Postfix / XCLIENT
Hi all, while testing the new Dovecot Submission Proxy feature, which we greatly appreciate and have been anticipating for a long time, some issues occured. Dovecot is unable to submit mails via XCLIENT: < XCLIENT ADDR=185.115.176.12PORT=39074 > 501 5.5.4 Bad ADDR syntax: 185.115.176.12PORT=39074 Postfix is unable to parse the XCLIENT command from Dovecot submission proxy, as a

Suggestions for dovecot-submission (XCLIENT NAME attribute)
Hi, Currently, Dovecot Submission doesn't forward NAME attribute when XCLIENT is enable: Received: from server.example.org (localhost [1.2.3.4]) (Authenticated sender: test at example.org) by localhost (Postfix) with ESMTPA id AAAAAAAAAA for <user at domain.com>; Fri, 8 Mar 2019 12:28:02 Postfix adds a header with the sender IP address (1.2.3.4), but with localhost as hostname.

auth_policy in a non-authenticating proxy chain
Hi, I was looking into the new Authentication Policy feature: https://wiki2.dovecot.org/Authentication/Policy I had kinda hoped that I would be able to enfore this in a proxy running in front of several backends. This proxy does not authenticate. It use "nopassword". But I realize that the "succes" reported in the final authpolicy req. (command=report) is not what is

Submission and TLS client certificate
Hi, is there some configuration parameter in Dovecot, which sends a TLS client certificate to the SMTP server? I would need this to have XCLIENT enabled and TLS with Postfix. This way I could permit sending based on the certificates fingerprint. New Dovecot service: SMTP Submission (RFC6409)
Hi, As some of you know, I started implementing the SMTP submission proxy a few years ago. It acts as a front-end for any MTA, adding the necessary functionality for an SMTP submission service, also known as a Mail Submission Agent (MSA) (https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc6409). The main reason I created this, back then, was implementing the BURL capability (https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc4468). The

submission configuration issues
Hello, I'm having trouble configuring the submission proxy. I have configured the submission service as follow: submission_host = smtp.example.com submission_relay_host = localhost submission_relay_port = 8587 submission_relay_rawlog_dir = /var/log/dovecot/ submission_relay_trusted = yes My main issue is that until I login, dovecot-submission won't connect to the backend and query the

Submission/SMTP proxy server
Sorry if this seems elementary - but a question on implementation/usage/purpose of this.? My understanding is at this time the SMTP proxy server is only that - it does not implement any further functionality.? So its availability now is purely for testing purposes.? Is that accurate? I secondly assume that this intended for trusted clients only - so this is not intended for processing email

Delivering locally through the Submission Server
> what should it do with the non local messages or local messages directly > at aliases? OK, so I gather that the Submission Server cannot do that (yet). My suggestion for a future version would then be: How about running dovecot-lda, if the user happens to be local, or a local alias? Or at least provide some sort of pattern matching: anything matching *@example.com , pass the message to

LMTP proxy does not pass RCPT TO: ... 5xx response back
Hello, I'm using dovecot 2.2.9 and a director/backend setup. On the director I've the LMTP in proxy mode, mapping the users to one of the backends. The backends to quota check and return the OverQuota message already at RCPT TO time. Here is what I typed, connected to the director Connection to director1 2525 port [tcp/*] succeeded! 220 director1.rz.hs-example.de Dovecot

Why deliver+usercheck? deliver+MTA?
Hi, I successfully configured dovecot using virtual users (and LDAP/AD). deliver is the LDA and verifies if the user exists (as recommended in the WIKI). However, the howtos in the Wiki say *nothing* about the case that the recipients should be verified *before* receiving the messages (prevent backscatter, ...). All configurations in the dovecot-Wiki (postfix and exim) just accept the mails

Exim as default MTA?
Yes, I've been reading /. :) But this isn't the first time this has occured to me. With all the security vulnerbilties, would it be unreasonable to either change the default MTA from sendmail to Exim/Qmail/Postfix, or give people the option of installing something instead of Sendmail at install time? -- Avleen Vig "Say no to cheese-eating surrender-monkeys"

Small issue with "submission host"
Hi everyone, I'm facing a small issue with the lda/lmtp "submission_host" feature in dovecot 2.0.14. When sending mail to MTA (in case of sieve filter forwarding for example), dovecot pass a RCPT TO command just after the EHLO. He's missing the MAIL FROM command. Therefore, my MTA show me a warning like this : "improper command pipelining after EHLO". How can i

When i sent mail to user mail address, its working. I have distribution group or group with mail address on AD and users as member of this groups. But when i send mail to group mail address, its not working Dovecot-lda can
