Getting Director Proxy Working
Hi All,
I can't get directory proxying of pop3 and imap working.? The
director stuff appears to be OK - see below.?? The ldap
authentication is working on the backend mail server.? I just get
connection refused when I telnet to the proxy on the pop3 and imap
ports.? Nothing appears to be running on the pop3 and imap ports
despite the lines in the config below.? I am not sure what to do from

director ignoring director_mail_servers for lmtp connections
Hello,
Following Jan-Frode's advise I am trying this configuration:
{postfix} ---lmtp---> {director} ---lmtp---> {dovecot}
so I have two dovecot instances for director/proxy and lmtp delivery on ports 1024 and 24 respectively.
whilst for imap connections I can specify a pool of imap backend servers via 'director_mail_servers' it seems is not possible with lmtp.

Dovecot 2 + Director: IMAP+GSSAPI and LMTP-proxying
Hi all,
I have a setup of some nodes running Dovecot 2.0.13 and Postfix 2.5.6
with storage in NFS and authentication happening with PAM.
Poking around in the wiki, I tried out different possibilities but now
I am stuck -- and are hoping for your (enlightening) comments and tips.
My planned setup for IMAP and LMTP is like this:

Hi,
I'm setting up an IMAP/POP cluster using dovecot director for some NFS
reasons and I'm getting some troubles with director_servers directive.

Panic: file smtp-client-connection.c: line 1142 (smtp_client_connection_established)
I'm using dovecot in a multi server setup. Two directors forward pop3, imap and smtp to backend dovecots with their central storage on NFS.
Yesterday I stumbled upon these log lines:

managesieve proxying not working
Hi,
I'm setting up the directors for proxying pop3/imap/lmtp/sieve. pop3/imap/lmtp proxying work fine, but sieve not working. The error messages in maillog look not using proxying but local passdb.

No failover from director to backend?
Hi everyone,
short version:
Is there no built in failover mechanism for the director service to
handle a backend failure?
Long version:
I have a frontend server running the director service and two backends.
Due to maintenance I had to shut down one of the backends which caused
connection errors for the users being directed to this backend.
I was very surprised as I expected the director to

connection to director (lmtp) time out
Hi all,
I'm running two directors with lmtp proxy as relay transport for my
mail exchangers.
relay_transport = lmtp:inet:dovecot-directors.example.net
dovecot-directors.example.net resolves to 172.17.1.3 and 172.17.1.4
Now, .3 is down and Postfix tries to deliver it to .4 but this
connection gets a timeout:

2.2.6 auth process crash using LMTP and LDAP on director.
I'm upgrading my configuration to use director and lmtp for delivery.
(doveconf -n at end of the mail).
I use the same config for auth on mail backends and see no errors.
My setup seem to work nicely but i have some auth process crashing when
using lmtp protocol.
Everything is working a sexpected then i've got 5-6 errors like this in
logs and a crach of the auth process:

director lmtp -> smtp problem
Hi Timo & Dovecot users,
We have a 2-node director setup which front-ends for 4 nodes which share
a clustered filesystem (GFS). All nodes run Dovecot 2.0.18.
Approximately 40k users, but typically only a few thousand active at any
time.
The director nodes run sendmail, which deliver mail "locally" using LMTP
to the director, which then feeds to SMTP on the real servers (also

First time setting up Director Woes
I'm trying to setup our first director server. Trying to keep the
initial config simple really as just maybe a proof of concept and its
got me pulling my hair out today. Initially I just tried to convert one
of my already running IMAP servers to be a director just to see if I
could do it. I modified the configs as it appeared they needed based on:

Director problems
Hi,
I've just setup a testing enviroment for director, and it's not working
as expected. I have just 1 director (called director) and 2 dovecot
servers (dovecot1 and dovecot2); these are exact copies.
First problem: when both dovecot servers are up, every imap connection
is redirected to the same server as you can see here:
$ sudo doveadm director map

Ring SYNC appears to have got lost, resending after upgrade
Hi @all,
on Saturday I upgraded two dovecot servers from squeeze to wheezy and
dovecot from 2.1.x to 2.2.5 (compiled from sources). After the upgrade
everything worked fine at first.
On Sunday Morning I recognized these errors (they occured after a reload
for logging purpose on midnight) on one server:

director map and mysql
hello!
Is "doveadm director map" command suppose to work when I store "host" value in mysql table?
It gives me nothing in output with no errors in log.
I've successfully setup directors with static passdb, and decided to give a try setup with storing host value in mysql table.
The proxying is actually working, I'm just unhappy with no output from "doveadm

Eronious comment in sample Director configuration
The sample Director configuration (10-director.conf) says that
director_servers and director_mail_servers can be lists of either IPs or
hostnames:
# List of IPs or hostnames to all director servers, including ourself.
# Ports can be specified as ip:port. The default port is the same as
# what director service's inet_listener is using.

4sec latency when using director
Hi,
I've been running dovecot for many years, but now i've hit a strange
problem.
when retrieving imap there is sometimes in 1 of 4 imap requests a 4sec
latency.
* notes:
- connected directly to the backends this latency disappears
- removing a director from the loadbalancer(lvs) so i'm the only connected
to the director
this latency disappears too
I would appreciate some feedback

dovecot-proxy with managesieve, director and backend dovecot imap
hi all,
I've been tasked to add sieve/managesieve to an existing dovecot cluster
running 2.1.7 on debian wheezy which is made up of 2 dovecot-proxy hosts
as directors and some back end dovecot imap hosts all running the same
version.
My problem is that I thought to put the service on the director/proxy
hosts since they wouldn't have too much load on it, but when I do I get
