Unoffical Survey - What MTA/Spam filtering do you use?
I like this unofficial survey of hardware but wondering what MTA and
spam filtering everyone is using. I do front end spam filtering for
other servers as well. (junkemailfilter.com)
I'm using Exim 4.61
SpamAssassin 3.11
Some version of DSpam that I'm experimenting with
Most of my spam filtering happens on the Exim level.
My mail spam filter server is:

SV: handling spam from gmail.
I know it is not dovecot who should fix this. But anyone using dovecot
is using an MTA, and receiving spam ;) I know how to look at email
headers. Spf and dkim is not solving anything here.

Dovecot LDAP/AD with exim as mta
Hi,
I have done configuration dovecot/exim/samba4ad.
I use dovecot-lda not exim to deliver mail.
And dovecot to authentify users.
I have users with mail address on AD. When i sent mail to user mail

I have distribution group or group with mail address on AD and users as
member of this groups. But when i send mail to group mail address, its
not working

about filtering and dovecot
Hi
I would like to set up a local mailserver but I'm getting lost with all
the available options. As I have already decided to use dovecot I hope
someone here will be able to point me to the right docs/HOWTO's/...
Here's my wish-list:
1) download mail from my ISP's POP3-server
2) scan with spamassassin
3) scan with ClamAV
4) filter messages (mailing lists/sender/...)
5) store

Dovecot MTA
Hi all,
I've never really wanted to create my own MTA, because I like Postfix quite a lot. And I always thought it would require a horribly lot of time to be able to create something that was anywhere even close to having Postfix's features. (I would shudder to even think about recreating Dovecot from scratch nowadays.) But slowly over time I've also been thinking of ways how things

CentOS 6, Postfix Dovecot
I only have one Postfix server running at the moment and have some
questions. On that install, I did Amavisd-new with ClamAV, SpamAssassin,
Postfix and Dovecot.
I know this is a bit off topic, but I'm really hoping for performance
guidance.
Is the added layer of complexity running Amavis worth the effort on a
system with moderate mail flow? Or should I just go down the path of

Replacing sendmail with postfix (was: deprecations leading up to C8)

Milters work a little different under postfix IIRC... I haven't tried
them (which is a little sad,

Exim as default MTA?
Yes, I've been reading /. :)
But this isn't the first time this has occured to me.
With all the security vulnerbilties, would it be unreasonable to either
change the default MTA from sendmail to Exim/Qmail/Postfix, or give
people the option of installing something instead of Sendmail at install
time?

Why deliver+usercheck? deliver+MTA?
Hi,
I successfully configured dovecot using virtual users (and LDAP/AD).
deliver is the LDA and verifies if the user exists (as recommended in
the WIKI).
However, the howtos in the Wiki say *nothing* about the case that the
recipients should be verified *before* receiving the messages (prevent
backscatter, ...). All configurations in the dovecot-Wiki (postfix and
exim) just accept the mails

SpamAssassin and Public Namespace
Hi I know i might get flamed for asking this in the dovecot mailing list
instead of the spamassassin one but i thought someone might be kind
enough to help anyway.
TIA
I'm trying to do site-wide spam filtering with a public namespace but
it's not reading the folder i have in the public namespace
This is the public namespace set in my dovecot.conf

What is Puppet capable of?
Hi all,
I''ve been reading up on Puppet but there are a few things I am unsure
of, and I''m hoping someone here can advise.
As I understand it the idea behind Puppet is to describe how a machine
should be configured in a single place, and then let Puppet handle the
actual set up of the machine.
How specific is this? For example, I use Exim as an e-mail MTA, with

mail without mta
Dear list!
I'd like to know if some-
one has experience with system
running no mta (aka sendmail).
I have single comp, not server,
not lan. Yes! Sendmail is nice,
but it is too big for simple
tasks I have for it.
My intention is to use apps
small as possible. This letter
gone from mutt directly to
ssmtp, that processed it to my
isp. (Setting option for

Detecting empty office doc containing virus macro
We are receiving LOTS of emails that contain empty XLS or DOC documents with
embedded virus macros. These are getting past SPAMASSASSIN, Clamav and
Kaspersky.
I'm trying to write a filter for EXIM to block these emails but I need to know
a good, quick, command-line to detect an empty doc with a macro.
Is there anything available that I can use??
I have managed to write a PERL script to

Lightweight MTA for XEN CentOS guests
All,
For a production environment, I'd like to setup CentOS XEN guests as
lightweight as possible. I'd like the XEN guests to be able to send
nightly email as all CentOS servers do, but there is no reason to run
a mail server as the CentOS Dom0 already has an email server running
that can act as an email smart host.
The options that seem most appealing to me are either ssmtp or
sendmail

Mail Avenger
Is anybody using mailavenger on a CentOS system? If so, could you post
your experiences? Like quality of the program, server loads and number
of email messages processed and power of server.. Those sorts of good
info things.
http://www.mailavenger.org/
This looks really sweet! Fighting spam before the smtp process and it
looks like it works with just about any MTA. So, it could reject
