[PATCH 1/2] btrfs-progs: mixed back ref support
This patch adds mixed back ref support for btrfs programs.
The mixed back ref is a new disk format. back compatilibity
is still not implemented. To try the new disk format, you
need fresh formatted btrfs.

3.14.18 btrfs_set_item_key_safe BUG
On 3.14.18 with a BTRFS partition mounted
noatime,autodefrag,compress=lzo, I see the second assertion in
btrfs_set_item_key_safe() trip:
void btrfs_set_item_key_safe(struct btrfs_root *root, struct btrfs_path *path,
struct btrfs_key *new_key)
{
struct btrfs_disk_key disk_key;
struct extent_buffer *eb;

[PATCH] Btrfs: fix passing wrong arg gfp_t to decide the correct allocation mode
If you look the code carefully, you will see all the tree_mod_alloc()
has to use GFP_ATOMIC. However, the original code pass the wrong arg
gfp_t in some places, this dosen''t cause any problems, because in the
tree_mod_alloc(), it ignores arg gfp_t and just use GFP_ATOMIC directly,
this is not good.
However, i think we should try best not to allocate with GFP_ATOMIC, so
i keep the gfp_t

[RFC][PATCH] btrfs orphan code
Hello,
I want to throw this out here now that I''ve got most of the heavy lifting done
for this code to make sure what I''m doing is ok for now. I''ve added an
ORPHAN_DIR item key to have a hidden dir per root. Right now it just does it
for whatever the default root is on mount, but I''m going to fix that to do the
orphan dir check/creation on lookup of a

[RFC PATCH] Decrease Metadata Fragment Using A Caterpillar Band Method
I made an attempt to partly decrease fragment by using a preallocated
area of multiple size of a std blocksize for a tree block when it is COWed.
The basic idea is that if any a tree block need to be created,
we offer, say, 2 or 4 multiples of a std blocksize for it, then use the
first block in the continuous blocks. When this block need a cow in the
future, a new free block in these continuous

[PATCH] Btrfs: set a incompat flag when setting default subvol
Older kernels would generally be able to still mount the filesystem with the
default subvolume set, but it would result in a different volume being mounted,
which could be an even more unpleasant suprise for users. So if you set your
default subvolume, you can''t go back to older kernels. Thanks,

[PATCH v4] Btrfs: Check INCOMPAT flags on remount and add helper function
In support of the recently added capability to remount with lzo
compression, provide a helper function to check the compression
INCOMPAT flags when remounting with lzo compression, and set
the flags if necessary.
Also, implement the new helper function when defragmenting with
explicit lzo compression and when setting the default subvolume.

[PATCH] Btrfs-progs: add a free space cache checker to fsck
In trying to track down a weird tree log problem I wanted to make sure that the
free space cache was actually valid, which we currently have no way of doing.
So this patch adds a bunch of support for the free space cache code and then a
checker to fsck. Basically we go through and if we can actually load the free
space cache then we will walk the extent tree and verify that the free space
cache

[PATCH] Btrfs: optimize key searches in btrfs_search_slot
When the binary search returns 0 (exact match), the target key
will necessarily be at slot 0 of all nodes below the current one,
so in this case the binary search is not needed because it will
always return 0, and we waste time doing it, holding node locks
for longer than necessary, etc.
Below follow histograms with the times spent on the current approach of
doing a binary search when the

[PATCH 0 of 3 v2] PV-GRUB: add support for ext4 and btrfs
Hi,
The following patches add support for ext4 and btrfs to
PV-GRUB. These patches are taken nearly verbatim from those provided
by Fedora and Gentoo.
We''ve been using these patches for the PV-GRUB images available in EC2
for some time now with no problems.
Changes from v1:
- Makefile has been changed to check the exit code from patch
- The btrfs patch has been rebased to apply

[patch 00/65] Error handling patchset v3
Hi all -
Here''s my current error handling patchset, against 3.1-rc8. Almost all of
this patchset is preparing for actual error handling. Before we start in
on that work, I''m trying to reduce the surface we need to worry about. It
turns out that there is a ton of code that returns an error code but never
actually reports an error.
The patchset has grown to 65 patches. 46 of them

[RFC] btrfs-progs: fix sparse checking and warnings
Hi gang,
I was a little surprised to see that patch go by recently
which fixed an endian bug. I went to see how sparse
checking looked and it was.. broken. I got it going
again in my Fedora environment.
Most of the patches are just cleanups, but there *were*
three real bugs lurking in all that sparse warning spam.
So I maintain that it''s worth our time to keep it going
and fix
