Ajax.Autocompleter parameters
I''m trying to pass additional variables to my autocomplete data page.
I used the parameters option but this only sends a static variable
(i.e. I can''t do something like parameters:"param1="+$
(''checkbox1'').checked).
I thought I could fix this by calling a new Ajax.Autocompleter every
time the checkbox was clicked but that just created duplicate

auto_complete_field help
Not sure what I am doing wrong. Here is what i am trying to do (code
to follow).
I have a form to create a new book. This book can have many authors
and I wanted to be able to add the authors based on if they appear in
the authors table. I originally was going about it a long and arduous
way where I had several forms. After thinking about it I decided to
dynamically add new fields to

Ajax.Autocompleter and onchange event
Hello,
currently I''m working on a JavaScript-on-screen-keyboard for use with touch screens. To autocomplete inputs I want to use the Ajax.Autocompleter control. The problem is that Ajax.Autocompleter only responds to onkeypress events made with a real keyboard, but my on-screen-keyboard causes onchange events when a letter is clicked and appended to the input field. So, is there a way to

Ajax.Autocompleter method and URIs
Hello,
I''ve looked at a few autocompleters, and really like Script.aculo.us''.
I have two suggestions for making it even better:
1) Make the default HTTP method GET, or at least clearly document how
to change it (through the prototype options). This will make it
possible for the browser as well as intermediaries to cache the
results.
2) Make it easier to control the URIs that

autocomplete=off not working on Firefox
I noticed that the latest control.js disables auto complete:
this.element.setAttribute(''autocomplete'',''off'');
So I removed my inline "autocomplete=''off''" from my input fields.
But Firefox still auto completes.
Using the Firefox DOM Inspector I do see that it''s applied
by Ajax.Autocompleter as expected. The Inspector

Autocompleters and Sortables do not function in IE6
I have two issues that I hope someone else has encountered and has a
solution for.
First:
I have several autocompleters on my site, and they function as
expected in Firefox, Opera, IE7, but when I use them in IE6, I get no
javascript errors for my local autocompleters, and all ajax
autocompleters functions are firing as expected and returning the
correct search results. The only problem, IE6

Autocomplete - Destroying the object
Hi,
I''m new to all this so if this is a daft question sorry.
I''m using Ajax Autocomplete to populate a search box with likely matches.
These results need to be filtered by an option from a select box that
is alongside the search box.
As the current Autocomplete function only takes in one id to post to
the search file, i figured i could post more stuff to the

disable ''tab'' key wish for incremental autocomplete of textareas
I''m absolutely in love with the incremental
autocomplete feature in the new scriptaculous.
My one wish would be for some way of disabling the TAB
key to prevent users from being able to tab out of an
autocompleting textarea. (If they''re using TAB to
select the autocomplete choice they end up tabbing
straight out of the input field if autocomplete

autocomplete: how to access a child element of <li>
hi.
i promise this will be my last question for the day.
still playing with autocompleter, everything is working ok, but i''m
having difficulties accessing just the href attribute of <a> element,
which is a child of <li> in the autocomplete response, i.e:

in_place_editor with local autocomplete
Hi Rails gals n guys
I am trying to enhance the "Lightning-Fast JavaScript Autocompletion"
rails recipe. For those that do not have the pdf-book the recipe
explains how to use a javascript array for an auto-complete text field.
I want to combine this with the in_place_editor call. My current
(unworking) code:

Autocompleter Problems
Hi,
I''m trying to get autocomplete to work but have been having some problems.
It seems that Ajax.Autocompleter(...) is not getting called. I''ve put in a
alert in control.js:
Autocompleter.Local = Class.create();
Autocompleter.Local.prototype = Object.extend(new Autocompleter.Base(), {
initialize: function(element, update, array, options) {

Disable autocomplete (Ajax.Autocompleter) on the fly.
I''m sure there is an easy way to do this, but it is one of those things
that is incredibly difficult to search for.
How can I disable an ''Ajax.Autocompleter'' element from working ''on the
fly''? I have a page where I''m using two (I know it''s crazy)
Ajax.Autocompleter elements and once one of them has got a result I

Autocompleter - get rid of default selection?
Running Scriptaculous 1.8.1 I''m experiencing an issue with the
autocompleter.
As part of a search page, I''ve added and autocomplete field. During
entering text, the first entry in the autocomplete list is
automatically selected- once the user hits enter (regardless if that
is the entry he''s looking for or not), the form is submitted.

Re: triggering autocomplete with a button press
I''ve got a search field on my site that uses an autocomplete to match
against search terms already input by the same user. That''s working
perfectly. However, I''d like to provide a little button next to the
search field that triggers the autocomplete, so that the users can
"browse" the list of past search terms. This behavior would be in

everything that I can think of to fix the problem, but nothing has
worked. I''m able to recreate a simple autocomplete from examples on the
various tutorials, but my original code just will not work.

scriptaculous autocompleter on IE
Hi all,
I''ve noticed slightly erratic behaviour with the autocompleter on IE.
In controls.js, the render method calls the (IE only) scrollIntoView
method, which causes the element to be moved to the bottom or the top
of the viewport (by passing in true or false, bizzarely).
This is perfectly acceptable behaviour for render in general, but this
causes the dropdown list to jump around as
