Is it possible to create CentOS 5.9 LiveCD on CentOS 6.4 system?
I am trying but getting following errors (rpmdb related):

Building a C5 chroot on a C6 machine
I'm trying to do something slightly silly; rather than having a C5 machine
and a C6 machine around for compiling and testing, I want to create a C5
chroot area. Something similar to "mock" but using lvm snapshots and some
local config specific stuff.
(Potentially even using Linux Containers to enter the chroot environment).
So I thought I'd build out the chroot...

Using the instructions on:

I enter the command: rpm --import http://apt.sw.be/RPM-GPG-KEY.dag.txt

confirm the download:

ntsysv and chkconfig update error
We have a couple of CentOS 7 boxes that were built before I was hired to
clean up the kickstart script used for C7 boxes. We had a couple of rpm
packages that were pre-C7 that were used and setup the old SysV Init way
using ntsysv and chkconfig on these boxes. (I finally fixed that in the
newer scripts.) These are out in the field and I'm having to deal with
them as they are. One thing

Updating PXE documentation for CentOS wiki
I was just looking at the CentOS Wiki at
https://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/PXE/PXE_Setup, and it's pretty
seriously out of date. It neglects the existence of the
"syslinux-tftpboot" RPM, and the hand editing of xinetd config files
for tftpd ignores the availability of "chkconfig" and "service" to
manage that service.
For more sophisticated users, it doesn't

RPM errors after moving /lib/tls to /lib/tls.disabled
Hello,
I have been testing the latest unstable version of xen and noticed that after I
move /lib/tls to /lib/tls.disabled I start receiving errors whenever I try to
execute an rpm command (or yum commands - related to rpm). Just as an example
here''s an error:
rpm --import RPM-GPG-KEY
rpmdb: unable to initialize mutex: Function not implemented
rpmdb: /var/lib/rpm/__db.001: unable to

yum updated to 3.3, rpmdb corrupted
I'd guess this is probably something pretty specific to my test box, but when I
yum updated to 3.3 my rpmdb got totally hosed. Unfortunately, I didn't save
the error that occured at the time because a rpm --rebuilddb _appeared_ to fix
the problem. Unfortunately I found out later that I was left with a db that
only contained a subset of the actual install base. I'm now trying to

RPMDB problem
When doing yum operations I get this message at the end of whatever
yum was doing:
** Found 1 pre-existing rpmdb problem(s), 'yum check' output follows:
brscan4-0.4.8-1.x86_64 is a duplicate with brscan4-0.4.3-1.x86_64
It is true, if I do "rpm -qa | grep brscan" it shows two of them.
what's the best/proper way to deal with this?
-remove both, reinstall one?
-remove one?

[supermin PATCH] rpm: check for SQLite-based RPM DB
Fedora 33 switched the DB of RPM to SQLite, so no more Packages/Name/etc
files. Because any missing file exception is ignored when checking for
--if-newer, the lack of the Package files was not properly noticed, so
the appliance was always considered out out date.
Check for the SQLite-based DB first, falling back to the old format.

centos 7 yum dependency issue

However Yum still thinks that they are broken:

Openssl C6 distro tag different from upstream
Hi,
Just noticed that the distro tag used in openssl is different from
upstream. Upstream and the last update (openssl-1.0.1e-30.el6_6.7) use
"el6_6" where as the latest update (openssl-1.0.1e-30.el6.8) uses
"el_6". Any reason for this discrepancy?
Regards,
Leonard.
