Fedora and CentOS no longer on speaking terms
I have just upgraded my server from CentOS 5 to CentOS 6 and am having connectivity problems. My laptop runs Fedora 14, and I have been in the habit of mounting data partitions on my server by fstab entries. Since the update I've not been able to do that. On watching the messages during a reboot I saw a statement that the connection was denied by the server (where are those messages

PackageKit via ssh
Hi, I'm trying to use gnome PackageKit (gpk-application) on a centos 6 x86_64 system. When I am sitting at the machine it works ok, but most of the time I am accessing that C6 system via ssh from my centos 5 desktop. In this scenario gpk-application starts ok, lists packages, resolves deps, etc... but then it doesn't pop up the box asking for the root password, and aborts with a

how to delete a trashed kernel
I have a screwed up disk arrangement, but I have had no trouble because of it after using it over a year. Recently I did a yum update. After starting the update, which included a new kernel, it seemed to either freeze or loop. It was a long time at the? prompt and I got impatient and did a Ctrl C. I then tried to re-boot. The result was a kernel panic. I am keeping 5 kernels and when I select? the

"Can't install ... as no transaction" from PackageKit (CentOS 6)
Hello again, Does anyone have any idea what the following message in the package installer - gpk-install-local-file - is supposed to mean? Can't install /tmp/mail-notification-4.0-3.el5.x86_64.rpm as no transaction (Under "More details" in the "Local install failed" popup.) This is something I got while trying to set up a "mail notification" icon - refer to

polkit helper timeout and defunct pkla-check-authorization processes on CentOS 7.3
Hi everyone, We seem to be having issues on multiple CentOS 7.3 machines. The problem seems to revolve around polkitd. At some random time, polkitd seems to stop responding on my systems. Along with this, there might be hundreds of defunct pkla-check-authorization processes. If I reboot, then things are fine for a while. I don't see any activity in the unabridged journal to suggest anything

Excluding ConsoleKit in kickstart
Hi, I'm working on automating virtual machine installs using kickstart files and virt-install. The problem I have is that these kickstart installations install different packages than a minimal manual install. While I got rid of some of them I can't seem to prevent ConsoleKit from getting installed. I put "-ConsoleKit" in the packages section and later also added packages that

6.4 : How to enable epel and the rpmfusions??
I've installed 6.4 on an old T30 ThinkPad, and I'm in the midst of setting it up. I can't seem to get an rpm of Pan for it, nor even to do yum update. Mousing around fedoraproject eventually got me to http:// rpmfusion.org/Configuration/ and from there to downloads for the free, nonfree, and epel packages (along with a caveat that tells you -- *after* you've gotten rpmfusion
