[XCP] Virtualising the local storage
Has anyone had any real-world experience using a VM to host storage for other VMs. For example, glusterfs running in a VM in domU on host A, replicating to another glusterfs VM on host B, with other VMs on those same hosts connecting to the glusterfs for their storage? It''s obviously not a very efficient way of doing things, but it might be an easy and flexible way to manage things in a

[SOT] Virtualising Asterisk
I know a lot has changed over the past couple of years, and even monthly, and that Asterisk running within a virtualised environment is very happy indeed. If one would only be using SIP/IAX would Xen/KVM be the best solution ? / or perhaps VServer/LXC maybe advantageous due to binary hashing. Your thoughts would be very welcome. -- Thanks, Phil -------------- next part -------------- An HTML

3Ware 9550SX and latency/system responsiveness
Dear list, I thought I'd just share my experiences with this 3Ware card, and see if anyone might have any suggestions. System: Supermicro H8DA8 with 2 x Opteron 250 2.4GHz and 4GB RAM installed. 9550SX-8LP hosting 4x Seagate ST3250820SV 250GB in a RAID 1 plus 2 hot spare config. The array is properly initialized, write cache is on, as is queueing (and supported by the drives). StoreSave

Samba4 UNIX password sync
Hi List, I am trialling a small Samba4 AD server supporting 10 users (running fine). I also have exim smtp and dovecot imap running on the same Debian Wheezy box. Simplistically, what I would like to achieve is for an AD user account to also authenticate to imap and smtp using the same credentials. I previously used Samba3 'unix password sync' to ensure that any domain users were

R patched & devel versions as portable ZIP files
I wonder if it would be possible to provide R patched and development versions for Windows as simple zip files without using any installers. There are more and more free and open source software projects providing such portable versions, among them Python (since V2.5), the new MikTex 2.8, OpenOffice 3, Firefox and Thunderbird, to name a few. Many smaller Windows utilities do the same. When

Inquiry:How to compare two files but not in line-by-line basis?
Dear All Can you please do me favor and let me know how can I compare two files but not in line-by-line basis on my CentOS server ? I mean say row#1 in file1 has the same data as say row#5 in file2 , but the comm compares them in line-by-line basis that is not intended . It seems that the diff cannot do the job as well . Thank you in advance -------------- next part -------------- An HTML

Does anyone have a Linksys WPC11 v2.5 running under CentOS 4? If so, were there any special tricks that you had to perform? Any information would be most helpful. Thanks, Barry Brimer

Authentication per Service
Hi All, I use dovecot (v2.3.4) with a SQL backend for user authentication, passwords are stored in CRAMMD5 format. My SMTP server uses "doveadm auth" via auth-socket to perform sender authentification. To shut down SMTP access for hacked passwords I want to have a dedicated flag in the user database to allow/disallow SMTP for a user withouth disabling his account for IMAP. So, is

OPUS/FLAC Metadata
Anyone know any workarounds for OPUS/FLAC metadata on IceCast? I’ve monitored my inbound stream and this is working correctly (or at least the formatting and data for the OPUS stream is identical to the MP3/AAC+ streams). I see people with OPUS streams and metadata but they may not be using IceCast. Is it safe to assume we’ll see this in the next version? Rick

IGMP
The BBC are currently trialling multicasting the Olympics. This requires multicast and IGMP to be available. As far as I can make out, in 2.0.8 at least, all multicast addresses are filtered out and, to my naive eyes, can''t be re-enabled. Please prove me wrong :-) Dirk -- Please Note: Some Quantum Physics Theories Suggest That When the Consumer Is Not Directly Observing This Message,

Debugging tdb_oob log messages in samba 3.6
Hello samba list, We're trialling Samba 3.6 and on some of our systems I see the following type of messages in the smbd and winbind logs: [2012/03/16 17:28:59.038177, 0] ../lib/util/tdb_wrap.c:65(tdb_wrap_log) tdb(/var/lib/samba/messages.tdb): tdb_oob len 663932 beyond eof at 12288 [2012/03/16 17:28:59.038331, 0] ../lib/util/tdb_wrap.c:65(tdb_wrap_log)

Winbind and AD
Can someone who knows please explain how compatible with AD Winbind is and specifically what advantages the new 3.0 version of Samba provides. I've looked at the release notes but I appear to be able to quite happily access domain accounts/groups etc, browsing and so on with a RH 7.3 machine on my Win2K domain using winbind and am not sure whether it is worth trialling V3. regards, Toby

Yet another send_data :image question...
Guys & gals, I''m also learning RoR (using v2.3.4). I''ve got a basic scaffold working for image file creation, and - to a point - image file display. The send_data function is working in my controller - no problem. The model code is able to parse the uploaded file construct too. def show @image = Image.find(params[:id]) send_data(@image.binary_data, :type =>

newer (2.7) Postfix RPM packages for RH
Postfix 2.3.3 that comes with RH/CentOS is very old, there are lots of new features in newer versions that appear to be very useful (revised queue manager with better scheduler as far back as v2.5, etc.). Latest stable version is 2.7. I was looking for RPM packages and I've found this site: http://ftp.wl0.org/official/ Anybody using it? Good things, bad things?... Anybody using Postfix

rsync v2.6.9: small patch fixing NORETURN failures
Hello, as of gcc v2.7.2.1, the noreturn attribute needs to be given *after* the prototype declaration and not before, but for gcc v3.x, things changed for this attribute again, since gcc v2.5.x did it the way, newer gcc versions prefer it... I've applied a small unified diff, fixing this stuff. THX for listening. CU Tom. (Thomas M.Ott) Germany -------------- next part -------------- ---
