Centos6 Migration glitch - Samba
Folks My experiments have shown that Samba behaves differently in Centos 5.6 and Centos 6 (updated). In Centos 5, service smb restart restarts both smb and nmb. In Centos 6, however, it restarts only smb. REMEDY: a) Make sure that both services running b) Issue chkconfig smb on chkconfig nmb on IS THIS THE DESIRED BEHAVIOR I have no idea if this difference is a

Samba problem
Hello, I am trying to learn how to use Samba. I first just want to get it to work, then I'll make it better. I am not concerned about security since everything is on a private network. I am following the material in "CentOS 6 Linux Server Cookbook" by Jonathan Hobson. I am using two virtual computers with Virtual Box running on Fedora 19. Both virtual computers have bridged

samba dhcp issue
I have sort of the same problem that other people have reported with nmb. Only in my case i'm running dhcp client. It appears that the ip address is not being assigned quickly enough as this is what nmb complains about in the log:no local interfaces. Once i login to kde and su to root in a term session, I can issue the restart command and it works very nicely:). So what,if any, is the

Running smb without nmb? (Linux Suse 8.1 feature)
I recently upgraded my Linux distro to SuSE 8.1 which came w/samba 2.2.5. A feature of the upgrade was that it 'split' the startup script for samba from 1 script for _smb_ & _nmb_ to 2 scripts. Now the prologue (used by insserv to create the numbered startup scripts with dynamic numbering based on dependencies in the prologues of all the startup scripts for a given run level) says

Samba-AD-DC package question . . .
I have an existing Samba-AD-DC built from Inverse packages, v.4.1.18+dfsg-3~inverse1 I have OpenChangeServer installed on that machine, v.2.4-zentyal6 When I start OpenChange, it "shuts down" my Samba-AD-DC so that no one can login. To troubleshoot my problem, I've built a "new" Samba-AD-DC from the same Inverse packages, but I see a slight difference in the installed

configuring samba for virtualbox guest os host only network
Dear samba users: I am new on this list and know samba at a very basic level. I use openSUSE 42.2 Leap with its default samba 4.4.2 version. This is what I would like to achieve: I have a guest windows OS in virtualbox 5.1. Occasionally I have to print documents from this guest OS using my printer configured in openSUSE. I would like to use samba to share my printer between the linux host and

Should I upgrade Samba 3.6 to Samba 4.1
Hi, I just installed Samba on my Centos 6.4 computer. Smbstatus says my version is 3.6.9-151.el6-4.1. My smb.conf file only has a [global] and [homes] section. My configuration works, as expected, from a Win7 Virtual Box computer and a Win8 Virtual Box computer. I can see the share from the Windows file explorer and can map the share to a network drive. The Samba server is not virtual.

sssd run level get turned off automagically
CentOS 6.5 (AMD64) LDAP DS: via SSSD When I did the OS installation (client site), I had turned the service ON with 'chkconfig sssd on' and 'chkconfig sssd --list' showed that it was ON However, whenever the server has been 'hard' rebooted, 'service sssd status' shows that it is not running. 'chkconfig sssd --list' shows it is OFF! I don't

Samba doesn't work after upgrading
I just upgraded my system to Fedora Core 7 from Core 6 and I find that now Samba doesn't seem to be working for me anymore. If I try to connect from my laptop computer running Windows XP I just get one shared folder that has only a few subfolders (probably because offline files is turned on). If I try to connect by using the IP address (\\192.168.0.5) it tells me that it's not accessible

new IP on an iface and nmb's behaviour
hi everyone, I observe a peculiar "behaviour" behaviour of nmb, peculiar to me at least, could be that "this is how it works", thus asking. If I add an IP on the iface that nmb is already operating then I see such a message: Samba name server GOER is now a local master browser for workgroup PRIV_NET on subnet 192.168.2.204 204 is that new IP, but then windows boxes do
