6.5, minor annoyances
I rebuilt my system a couple/three weeks ago, and it's running 6.5, and there's a couple of minor annoyances: first, all my xterms, when I login in from the console, always are in ~/Documents, rather than ~. The other is that, running KDE, I can't find where to turn *off* the stupid login/logout theme music.* Oh, and I get this enTHUsiastic menu, rather than the traditional one.

KDE frustrations, now
So I d/l gqview from where I found the rpm, and installed it. It didn't show in my kde menu, so I did something *really* dumb: I ran the kde menu updater. Now I can't lock my screen. Nothing at all happens. Nothing shows in .xsession-errors, nothing shows in /var/log/messages. I restored all of .kde/share from last night's backup... and the screensaver still doesn't go, and

Centos7/Kde4 freeze
Hi I have a fresh install of centos 7.4 with KDE on a laptop (latitude 5590) connected to a DELL WD15 dockstation with an additionnal screen. It works quite well, I have 2 screens side by side (default config), but.... If I add a second menu bar for the screen connected to the dockstation (KDE allow for this) it is not possible anymore to start a kde session if the laptop is not connected to

KOrganizer problems
My file/print/mail server is CentOS. My laptop is Mandriva 2008.0. I have smb shortcuts loaded by fstab to give instant access to my home directory and a data directory on the server. All was working well, after some initial problems with firewall and selinux, until yesterday. After finding from the logs that someone was trying to get into my imap server I decided that, although they

<rant> Dear gnome developers - could you *possibly* be more anti-Unix? I mean, thanks *so* much for trying to turn Linux into Windows or Macs.... </rant> So, now that I've gotten that out, the KDE display manager, on the login screen, easily lets you choose window managers. Possible new bug KDE LOCK Freeze hang
I am running Opensuse 11.3. I just upgraded to 11.4. I have been running wine to use Microsoft Money 95 for awhile now. Well over a year. it as flawless. I am now getting total lock up in KDE. I know... this isn't a wine problem. In Gnome I am still unable to use it. It installs fine. But when I attempt to run it, it crashes with an "Encountered a serious problem and needs to close".

Lost my menu options again - KDE messes with Gnome?
This was a problem I had a while back. I lost the "Preferences" menu item in my "Applications" menu in Gnome. After much discussion, the following commands got my "Preferences" menu item back, along with all the applications inside of it: rpm -e redhat-artwork redhat-menus --nodeps --allmatches yum install redhat-artwork redhat-menus But... For some reason it

latest yum update messed up chrome
I yum updated yesterday and it updated chrome from 44.x to 45.x. It runs but it has errors going to web pages and won't load its own settings/extension pages either. I ran chrome from the command-line and see these errors: $ google-chrome libGL error: dlopen /usr/lib/dri/swrast_dri.so failed (/usr/lib/dri/swrast_dri.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory) libGL error:

Installing CentOS-7 but keeping CentOS-6.5
I'm having trouble installing CentOS-7 on my HP MicroServer. I've tried with KDE LiveCD and Netinstall (both on USB sticks), and now I'm going to try with the DVD ISO. But I want to be quite sure I can return to CentOS-6.5 if things go wrong, so I'm wondering what precisely I need to copy (eg the MBR and a bit more) so that I could get back to things as they were. Is this

X, why did it have to be X
I have one user. We've pretty much all got two monitors, but he insists on rotating both of them vertically - that is, they're taller than they are wide, and he's got a Radeon card. I always have X grief on his system when I update it.... I just did a full update. X comes up in both screens... but the left one is *not* rotated, while the right one is. And they're mirrored.

Turning off wifi in CentOS 7
Someone else got the 7 pxe install going, and one thing that's annoying is that NetworkMangler appears to be regularly trying to fire up the wifi. On a workstation, in a wired environment. I just want to tell NM to knock it off....It's Monday, and my searching isn't going too well. Clues for the poor? mark

Wine menu integration stopped working in KDE.
Hello! I've got following problem: for some reason "wine" entry disappeared from KDE's start menu("K Menu") some time ago, and I'm unable to figure why this happened. I'm using wine-0.9.43 (compiled from sources) on Slackware 12 with 2.6.21.5-smp kernel, KDE 3.5.7. As I understand, application menu entries still exist in ~/.config/menus/applications-merged
