PXELINUX 6.03 / vesamenu.c32 hang
Hello,
I'm experiencing an issue where if I use vesamenu.c32 with PXELINUX 6.03 when network booting a virtual machine hosted on VMware ESXi 6.0, it hangs (the version message is printed and then nothing - the VM has to be powered off and back on again).
This happens no matter if I choose the E1000 network interface or the VMXNET3 network interface when creating the VM.

PXELINUX 6.03 / vesamenu.c32 hang
I've just tried 4.07 and that has the same results.
I should note that I appear to be in error about things working OK with menu.c32 as opposed to vesamenu.c32 - I do indeed see the menu (which with vesamenu.c32 it does not get that far), but when I attempt to choose the Windows Deployment Services option, it hangs.
Thanks,

PXELINUX 6.03 / vesamenu.c32 hang
Hello,
Thanks very much for your suggestions.
I have double checked that all .c32 files are from the same version of syslinux. What I don't know - I only put those .c32 files I have in there on the basis of trial and error - is what .c32 files are actually needed for menu.c32 and/or vesamenu.c32. I thought perhaps there might be a .c32 file missing that I needed to put in there (though

pxebooting
Digging into this, as we rework it, here's a question: assuming the system
being pxebooted is server 1, and the tftp server is server 2, on server 2,
in the menu for pxeboot, is there any way to specify that the image to
boot, and the initrd, are on a server 3? That is,
MENU repoboot
KERNEL repo://my/repo/images/vmlinuz
APPEND repo://my/repo/images/initrd.img
(or an IP address, like

pxelinux -> pxeboot load?
Hi all,
I've searched the depths of the resources on the internet; however
I'm having trouble deploying a pxeboot solution via pxelinux. So far
what I have successfully implemented in my infrastructure is a
successful pxeboot setup for FreeBSD ( without the use of pxelinux ).
I'd ultimately like to have a solution that will allow me to choose a
network install of various Unix-like

run FreeBSD "pxeboot" from pxelinux.0?
Hello, I hope this doesn't bounce again...
I'm having trouble passing control of the PXE process from PXELINUX
to the
FreeBSD "pxeboot" program.
I tried invoking "pxeboot" from the PXELINUX "boot:" prompt. This
causes an error "Invalid or corrupt kernel image."
I named pxeboot "pxeboot.0" and tried invoking pxeboot.0 from the

chaing freebsd pxeboot.0 from pxelinux.0
Hi Folks,
I have configured pxelinux.0 to allow chain-booting freebsd pxeboot.0
from it like this:
label fbsdpxe
KERNEL pxeboot.0
This works as expected, so no issue with that.
There's one weird thing however.
If I rename pxeboot.0 to pxeboot (omitting .0) and change the config
file accordingly
it throws this error at me:
Invalid or corrupt kernel image.
Same happens if I

More info about split-second message. RE: run FreeBSD "pxeboot" from pxelinux.0?
Hello...
In the split-second before the reboot, I can see that the pxeboot.0
process is indeed started-- pxeboot gets out just over 2 lines of text
before the reboot occurs.
So it's not a "ready" message.
The text in question is (without *'s):

PXELINUX 6.03 / vesamenu.c32 hang
Just tested with the latest VirtualBox and that works OK, so it's definitely something specific to ESXi 6.0.0 (it worked previously under 5.x ESXi versions).
Thanks,

WDS and PXELinux
Dear All,
First posting here...
I am trying to integrate a PXELinux boot into my native-mode WDS
server. I have found that making WDS boot the PXELinux is easy (see
below), it is making PXELinux give control back to WDS that I have not
cracked yet.
-In your WDS server, copy the contents of your tftpboot folder to the
Boot\x86 folder in your RemoteInstall one.
-Open the Windows Deployment

Using DNS in pxelinux.cfg
Hi all,
First time here, so please be gentle! :)
I'm trying to configure a system that will pxeboot and retrieve a
kickstart file from a server based on that host's macaddress as part of
my Edison project[0] however I'm having issues getting the dns lookup to
work and I'm hoping you can help!
My pxelinux.cfg/default file is as follows:

CentOS-6 by PXEboot?
Has anyone succeeded in installing CentOS-6.0 by PXEboot.
If so, would you say how you did it, please.
I tried (on an HP MicroServer),
but gave up in the end and used a USB stick installation instead.
But I'd be very interested to know how to do it, for the future.
Unfortunately I didn't keep a proper note of my PXEboot attempt,
but IIRC the problem was that install.img was not found,

PXELINUX and WDS (The Proper WAY)
After about 15 hours, a packet sniffer and a ton of google searching later, I have a solution to getting WDS (Windows Deployment Services) to work with PXELINUX
Google didn't turn up anything of use directly, everything that was referenced appeared to be related to starting pxelinux from either WDS or RIS. That just won't do, since they often can give hiccups and lockups when

disabling serial in pxelinux
Hello from Vienna, Austria!
I'm happily using pxelinux since years. However, I encountered problems
on several machines, because they don't boot up properly with PXE. The
problem is, that there are recently some devices connected to the serial
ports of those machines. pxeboot echoes and listens to the serial
console and the output of the menu results in (silly) input back from

tftp file size limit: pxelinux.0 vs. syslinux.efi
Hello,
I am pxebooting a large linux kernel (with embedded initramfs) that is around
250 MB in size.
When booting a board in legacy BIOS mode, the pxelinux.0 executable is
transferred to the board and takes over, from where loading and booting this
large kernel works as expected. Actually, better than expected, as no tftp
file size limit is incurred.
If I change the BIOS settings to UEFI mode,

odd pxelinux/tftp-hpa problem
I haven't encountered this problem before. This is from a Compaq
DL320, with Intel Boot Agent 4.0.17 and tftp-hpa-0.28 running on
Solaris. The PXE stack gets its IP address just fine, but it times out
on the TFTP. While snooping on the Solaris box and grepping for TFTP, I
found that the box gets one block of the TFTP transfer just fine.
