Upgrading from CentOS 5.6 to 6.0
Help!
Just ran the installation DVD but there is no option to 'upgrade'. Looked at
the RHEL docs,
http://docs.redhat.com/docs/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/6/html/Installati
on_Guide/ch-guimode-x86.html#id4594292 referenced off the CentOS Release
notes but the CentOS installation doesn't offer the 'upgrade'.
I use to be able to upgrade by doing a 'yum update'. That

Upgrading from 3.4 to 4.0 beta X
Please forgive me if I missed something, but I've searched all over in
hopes of finding something documented on a procedure to upgrade a Centos
3.4 system to the beta. I've got the DVD burned and am testing the
process on VMWare. All I could figure out how to do was install over
the existing partition without formatting, but this was quasi-disastrous
so I 'reverted' my

mach64 driver, latest update in CentOS 6.8, symbol lookup error
I am loading a server from the CentOS 6.7 ISO and then upgrading. After loading at release 6.7, the machine behaves normally. After running yum update, the X server will not start. Attempts to start it manually result in one of the following messages depending upon which OS is loaded. I initially loaded it as 64 bit and when that did not work I tried the 32 bit version of the OS. The

CentOS 5 Beta - Yum Updates?
I am new to CentOS. I mostly use
Fedora Core. I installed the CentOS 5 Beta
on a test machine from the DVD. I configured
it with both KDE and Gnome. I am using
the default YUM configurtion which loaded
with the DVD.
Unlike FC7T2, CentOS 5 Beta does not seem to pick
up Yum updates. Is this by design or do I
need to add repos to my /etc/yum.repos.d?
Thanks for any suggestions

Does RoR + Oracle use bind variables?
Does ROR + Oracle use bind variables?
Using :conditions in a find statement gives the appearance that bind
variables might be used :
header = "test header"
Posts.find(:all,:conditions=>["header = ?",header])
i.e. Does AR just pass the whole string to oracle or the SQL and the
parameters?

Need help
I am also using CentOS, but to get a bug fixed, you have to go upstream to RedHat. I think John Pierce is right, I had to change my run level to get the alternate consoles to work. I still have the machine at run level 3 hoping that a bug fix lets me go back to run level 5. Other machines work fine, just the 2 with the MACH64 video on the motherboard will no longer run X.

upgrading 3.6->4
greetings - I'm trying to upgrade a centos 3.6 box to version 4. I
tried to do an upgrade using yum but that failed and now the Cd
installer is not letting me upgrade either. Here's what I did:
following the howto, I tried to do the upgrade using yum. I installed
the GPG key and upgraded the centos-release and the centos-yumconf
packages. When I tried to upgrade yum package I ran

CentOS to reside near a NTFS system
Hello there,
the *old* PC (Turion 64 MT-32 800MHz, 1Gb RAM) of my gf is running
Windows XP, and I plan on installing a CentOS beside of it, allowing
her to select the OS at boot-time. Other system/OS installing options
are not retained, please avoid ;-).
My first attempt was to install the CentOS7 GNOME-Live on a USB
flashdisk and to boot it on the machine. It was either freezing at grub

Unresolved references in libnetsnmpagent.so
Hi,
I am running an up to date centos5.9 system.
The package,
net-snmp-devel-5.3.2.2-20.el5
Contains among oteher things:
/usr/lib/libnetsnmpagent.so
When I link with this library (-lnetsnmpagent), I get a bunch of unresolved references.:
My Google searches has not given me hints to where the C to Perl library exists.
I would guess that yum would have loaded the correct package as a

Can I force yum to only use http.
Our outsourced IT department has decided to use white listing on the firewalls for outbound ftp. I was given a list of sites our lab had accessed via ftp and eventually tracked them down to Linux machines running yum. They are all CentOS 5 or 6 with a smattering of 7. It is impractical to list all the possibilities since they change on a regular basis. Also any 3rd party repos we need are

Upgrading to CentOS 4.2 from FC2?
I am considering moving a Fedora Core 2 server to CentOS 4.2. Is it
possible to do this as an in place upgrade?
Also, I have a RH9 server that I would like to migrate to CentOS. Is
that possible?
Thanks for any insights,

centos 3.3 to 4.x?
Greetings,
A friend of mine is running 3.3
He asked what I thought about going to 4.4
I imagine it is best to backup and fresh install and migrate old configs and
data
What is the wisdom on the list
I remember going from beta 3 to 3 a long time ago.
Anyone ever upgrade from 3.x to 4.x without problem and how so?
I didn't see a lot on the www other than some apt-get info

Dealing with Application error (Rails) in production
Hi all,
Week 2 working with Ruby on Rails... I have a working app in development
that is now throwing a generic, "Application error (Rails)" message in
production.
How do I deal with this so I can find more information about why the
error is being thrown in production, but not in development?
Thanks!

Wine - Broderbund Print Shop - printing
I am running wine 20050725.
I used winetools to get an assortment
of software loaded and with a bit of tweeking
it worked.
I then ran the install CD for Broderbund
"The Print Shop". It loaded OK and after
copying a few dll's from my windows box, it
came up and ran.
My problem is with printing.
After reading through the users guide on printing

Hello AndyBe,
I download the ISO's and started the reinstall. It went through all the normal setup up to outputting the message that it was starting Anaconda. Then the screen went blank and stayed that way. This is the same symptom as when it

Setting up sendmail to mail system messages on CentOS 6 and 7
Hi all,
I've previously configured sendmail to send system messages on selected
servers running CentOS 6. Usually they just kinda' work out of the box. No
problems to speak of.
However most of my CentOS 7-servers are rather flakey when it comes to
sendmail. Most of the time they just won't send mails for whatever reason.
Further, most of the time I can get it working, it's

Xorg problem
I was also successful with 7 computers, however they run version 6.7.
For some reason this one computer upgraded to 6.8 and Xorg does not work.
I also changed to 3 different terminals and it did not help.
I am not giving up yet.
Thanks
