failed drive on an HP dl580 G5
The hpacucli works... but what isn't clear to me, even with googling, is
whether I have to do something from the utility, or whether I can just
pull the failed drive out of the hot-swap bay and put another in. I *do*
see that I have to re-enable the drive, or rescan it, but right now, I'm
concerned about just pulling the dead one out.

HP ProLiant DL380 G5
I have CentOS 6.x installed on a "HP ProLiant DL380 G5" server. It
has eight 750GB drives in a hardware RAID6 array. Its acting as a
host for a number of OpenVZ containers.
Seems like every time I reboot this server which is not very often it
sits for hours running a disk check or something on boot. The server
is located 200+ miles away so its not very convenient to look at. Is

semi-OT: flashing the BIOS on an HP dl580 GT, afterward
When last we saw our hero, er, sysadmin, he'd found that the "noarch" BIOS
update was, in fact, a self-extracting .exe file, and he'd extracted it.
Finally getting the ok to take the system down, the following hilarity
(for small values of hilarity) ensued.

ssd quandry
On a CentOS 6 64bit system, I added a couple prototype SAS SSDs on a HP
P411 raid controller (I believe this is a rebranded LSI megaraid with HP
firmware) and am trying to format them for best random IO performance
with something like postgresql.
so, I used the raid command tool to build a raid0 with 2 SAS SSDs

port forwarding
Hi,
I'm using CentOS release 5.6 (Final) and Xen 3.1. I'm writing to ask
how to configure port forwarding. With virt-manager 0.6.1 I added the
machines, but there I don't see an option for port forwarding.
I would like to reach the VM on a specific port of the host machine.
Once the machinces are running, I can configure iptables so that the
port forwarding works, but after

nouveau on G5 Macs
Hi all,
I have been trying to solve nouveau issues on my iMac G5 for ages. As
far as I can understand it, there is a problem with nouveau and page
size mapping. I tried both 64K and 4K page size kernels and the the
result is always distorted video.
There is an old To-Do list, which says "fix the page size mapping
problem on G5/64 bit for exposing fifo regs" on

Asterisk/Zaptel on Mac G5 or Xserve
I am considering a G5/XServe for a conferencing system. I need to put a TDM
card in the machine for timing. Is anyone out there using Asterisk on Mac
with zaptel drivers? I am looking at using Linux for the OS. If so what is
your experience?
Have a great day!

qlogic qle2462 hba and freebsd stable on a dl360 g5
Hi.
I'm looking at a qlogic qle2462 hba for my dl360 g5. The thread
http://www.mail-archive.com/freebsd-stable@freebsd.org/msg99497.html
mentions a deadlock when system is loaded. Has this issue been
resolved? Are there other PCI Express hba's which are known to work
with freebsd stable and dl360 g5?

anyone using pxelinux.0 > 3.36 successfully with HP DLXXX G3, G5?
Hello *
this morning I tried to upgrade from pxelinux 3.11 to 3.84 and
discovered that the localboot stuff does not work on HP DL360 G3 and G5.
The latest syslinux Version I found with a working localboot is 3.36.
pxelinux.cfg/default:
default harddisk
prompt 1
label harddisk
localboot 0
implicit 0
timeout 250
This so simple, it should just work, shouldn't it?

64-bit R on OS X/G5?
Hi!
Does anyone know if there is a working 64-bit version of R for MacOs X
on G5? If so, is there a memory limit anyway or could I theroetically
use almost 8 GB in one session?

nouveau on G5 Macs
I suspect screen tearing (as it's usually defined) is to be expected.
Can you take a photo of what you're seeing, since I'm suspecting it's
more than regular screen tearing?

OK. That's not tearing. That's like a bad pitch on an image.
(Presumably you only find the second image, IMG_1968.jpg,
problematic?)
I'm guessing you're using a GL-based compositor, which I fully expect
to work poorly. Please try a non-compositing or XRender-based
compositing environment.
