Ampersand Heartburn
Greetings all.
I''m using the Microsoft "NorthWind Traders" database "orders" table as
test data for the Rico LiveGrid JavaScript.
The problem I''m noticing is that some of the records in the "ShipName"
field contain ampersands -- which for some reason are not being escaped
by Rails.
Rails does in fact automatically escape all of the other

Ampersand in Folder names causing folders to disappear?
Hi All,
Dovecot 1.0.rc7
Not sure if this is a problem with Outlook, or with Dovecot, or to do
with encoding in Linux.
Whenever a user enters an ampersand into an IMAP folder name, it
dissapears from outlook. These folders appear on the ext3 filesystem as
&- for example

Ampersand (&) in filename
Wine has been working great on my Mac, but when I tried to start Black & White after installing, I can't get it open because the filename is literally "Black & White". Does anyone know what to do about the ampersand in Terminal? Or is there another way to start installed programs in Wine that I'm missing other than through Terminal? Thanks!

Quick question regarding updateElement
How do you pass the selected value to the function?
new Ajax.Autocompleter(''text'', ''auto'', ''file'',
{paramName:''autocomplete'', updateElement:sayhi});
function sayhi(???){
alert(???);
}
I''ve tried element and element.value but that didn''t work.

autocomplete 2nd field based on 1st field''s input
I''m trying to populate a field named "file_name" based on the input of a
field named "title". So, for instance, based on the following input in
the "title" field:
My Title Is Awesome
I would want the following "file_name" to be autocompeted on the fly:
My_Title_Is_Awesome

disable ''tab'' key wish for incremental autocomplete of textareas
I''m absolutely in love with the incremental
autocomplete feature in the new scriptaculous.
My one wish would be for some way of disabling the TAB
key to prevent users from being able to tab out of an
autocompleting textarea. (If they''re using TAB to
select the autocomplete choice they end up tabbing
straight out of the input field if autocomplete

Disabling the auto-complete feature in named list indexing
Is there any way to disable the auto-complete feature when we index a named
list?
E.g: a <- list ('longname'=1, 'anothername'=2)
a$l will return 1 and a$a will return 2
the '[[' operator behaves in the same way, the '[' operator does not do
autocomplete.
Is there any way to disable autocomplete for all the operators?
Thanks

jQueryUI autocomplete (Rails 3.1): can't get source as url to work
Hey,
I''m able to duplicate everything in Ryan Bates'' screencast on jQueryUI
autocomplete (#102<http://railscasts.com/episodes/102-auto-complete-association-revised>),
except for the piece that calls the server for completion data.
Here is my view html:

autocomplete=off not working on Firefox
I noticed that the latest control.js disables auto complete:
this.element.setAttribute(''autocomplete'',''off'');
So I removed my inline "autocomplete=''off''" from my input fields.
But Firefox still auto completes.
Using the Firefox DOM Inspector I do see that it''s applied
by Ajax.Autocompleter as expected. The Inspector

Easy RoR <-> Javascript syntax question
Hi there,
a simple n00b question:
I have that Javascript snippet on my page (see below; taken from jquery,
actually).
I want to pass it the "@cities" array from the controller. But what''s
the correct syntax, here?
See the 3rd line:

Fwd: Re: disable ''tab'' key wish for incremental autocomplete of textareas
Hi Tim,
Thanks for the commentary, you bring a good point to
light: I think the asynchronous nature of AJAX needs
to be looked at more carefully in our UI assumptions.
The key difference between AJAX auto-complete and any
other browser/OS autocomplete is that we can''t
guarantee having the results ready by the time the
user wants to hit TAB. In the old days we used to
have everything

escaped ampersand in generated restful url
I am using a restful helper method to build a url for use in a
link_to_remote method and for some reason the generated url has the
ampersand that separates the parameters escaped (i.e.
/action?param1=1&param2=2 instead of /action?param1=1¶m2=2)
Any ideas why and how to make it stop? :-) The code in question resides
in a helper, if that matters...
Cheers,

Autocomplete broken after update to Rails 1.0
When I upgraded to 1.0, I broke autocomplete on a field. I''ve done
everything that I can think of to fix the problem, but nothing has
worked. I''m able to recreate a simple autocomplete from examples on the
various tutorials, but my original code just will not work.

Form won't accept ampersand
Hi guys,
My start_form_tag generated form will not accept a text field containing
an ampersand.
For example, the text ''A & B'' is trunacted to ''A'' in the param hash.
I know ampersands have to be encoded in URLs, but I''m surprised my form
has a problem with this. I''ve tested this in Safari and Firefox.
thanks

autocomplete field in ajax response html - css does not get applied.
Hi all,
I have a page in which a div is updated with some html via Ajax. The
returned html contains an autocomplete field. The autocomplete field
works but the drop down results div does not get css applied to it so the
selections don''t get highlighted when I use the up/down arrows and so
I am unable to select from the drop down except for the first item. I
have been looking at this in

auto complete a text field
Hi,
Im looking for a way to autocomplete a text field, I have found this,
http://wiki.rubyonrails.com/rails/pages/HowToUseAdvancedAutocompleteFeatures
but at the top it says "Note that there?s easier ways to do this built
into newer versions of Rails, this was written in the early days of the
framework. If I get a chance, maybe I?ll update."
Any ideas where i can find some info on

Rails 3, ActionMailer and urls (ampersand encoding)
In Rails 2, if I used an url in a plain text message it was sent as is,
but it seems to be changed in Rails 3.
The url http://ab.cd/ef?g=1&h=2 seems to be now translated to
http://ab.cd/ef?g=1&h=2 even if the message is plain text.
Is it correct? I''ve written my tests previously considering it should
not be encoded in plain text messages and these tests are failing when
