yum updates not working
I think my software updates are not working. I know a Firefox update was
announced yesterday but when I try sudo yum update I get a message
saying that no packages are marked for update. I tried sudo yum clean
all but I still get the same response.
Any suggestions?

Memory problems with CentOS box
Hello all
I am running CentOS 5 on a small server and I am having very strange memory malfunctions.
The computer runs perfectly with no problems whatsoever. From time to time, after a soft reboot, the computer emmits beeps corresponding to a memory fault.
It never reboots again until I find and remove a now defective DIMM. That DIMM can never be used again because it is out of order.
This just

NVDIMM sizes and DIMM hot plug
Hi,
I've found out that NVDIMM size and label size matter for regular
(non-NV) DIMM hot plug. If the NVDIMM is not aligned correctly, the
guest OS will not accept the hot plugged memory and will complain with
messages such as
Block size [0x8000000] unaligned hotplug range: start 0x225000000, size 0x10000000
The start address above is also reported within <memory> element of the

Hello all,
I have arranged my data as per Dennis's suggestion in this post

the posted code works fine but when I try to apply it to my data, i get ">

Checking how many DIMM slots are in use
Hi,
I'm wondering if there's a method for doing any of these
1. Check what's the physical memory available.
free -m shows ~768 mem but I was sure that I had 1G of memory in there.
2. I check the kernel and it seems like the 4G split is in effect so it
should map / correctly recognise there's 1G of Mem there.
Is there any way to check besides opening up the machine to look at it

How to verify ecc for ram is active and enabled?
Is there a method to view the status of the rams ecc single or double bit errors? I would like to confirm that ecc on my xeon e5520 and ecc ram are performing their role since memtest is ambiguous.
I am running memory test on a p6t6 ws, e5520 xeon, 2gb samsung ecc modules and this is what is on the screen:
Chipset: Core IMC (ECC : Detect / Correct)
However, further down "ECC" is

DIMM problem
Hey, folks,
I've got an HP Proliant DL580 G5 throwing ECC errors. This is annoying,
since a) it's all new as of a few months ago, and b) it's *fully*
populated. The two things I need to figure out are a) *which* DIMM it
is, and b) is it mirrored; if so, which *other* DIMM needs to come out
until we get replacements from the OEM.
Here's one of many, all identical, from dmesg:

Still more questions WRT selecting a mobo for small ZFS RAID
Like many others, I am looking to put together a SOHO NAS based on ZFS/CIFS. The plan is 6 x 1TB drives in RAIDZ2 configuration, driven via mobo with 6 SATA ports.
I''ve read most, if not all, of the threads here, as well as sbredon''s excellent article on building a home NAS, yet I still have a number of unanswered questions.
I was leaning heavily towards the M2N-E for a while,

[RFC] virtio-mem: paravirtualized memory
Hi,
this is an idea that is based on Andrea Arcangeli's original idea to
host enforce guest access to memory given up using virtio-balloon using
userfaultfd in the hypervisor. While looking into the details, I
realized that host-enforcing virtio-balloon would result in way too many
problems (mainly backwards compatibility) and would also have some
conceptual restrictions that I want to avoid.

wilcoxon test with bonferroni correction
Hi!
I need to run a wilcoxon (Mann-whitly, in fact) test with bonferroni
correction, as I am running 10 consecutive wilcoxon test not
independent, and I know that bonferroni will partially correct for
this problem, but I have no idea how to do it with R, I have been
looking in the archive but couldn't understand how to do it.
The format I am using at the moment is
