Trying to install ChessBase 8.0 and Hiarcs
I have Ubuntu 11.04 with wine and I am trying to install my ChessBase 8.0 on it using Wine. I have copied the CD to my hard disk and I manage to get the installation splash page, but when I click on Install, it says "Can't Run Setup.Exe" [Image: http://kayve.net/cannot_setup.png ] [Image: http://kayve.net/InstallChessBase.png ] [Image: http://kayve.net/install_Hiarcs.png ] Can

Write to USB pendrives horribly slow
Hello there, since I installed CentOS6 few months ago (kept up-to-date using yum), I'm facing very poor performances when writing to USB pendrives. The hardware: a Dell Latitude E6500 laptop (Intel Core Duo P8600 @2.40Ghz), 4Go RAM + 4Go swap, several USB2 pendrives of various brands (less than old, all formatted as vfat). When I perform a copy (with cp or midnight commander, copying big

Simple question on USB flash drive naming
I have a USB key that when inserted into a port on my CentOS-6.5 system maounts as this: /dev/sdb1 /media/22d773e3-8502-4196-b45f-388380dcee48 ext2 rw,nosuid, nodev, uhelper=udisks 0 0 What is the mechanism to give this thing a more human usable mount name / volume name? Mounting this USB key with what I guess is a UUID in place of a name was not always the case. My sense is that the change in

floppy drives
Yes, really. I've got hundreds of the damn things here at home, and I want to go through them and get rid of them all. But... to do that I want to read them. I have both a 5.25" and a 3.5" drive, both are plugged in, but in the BIOS, all I see is the 3.5". Fine, I figure I'll take care of those. Nope. I see /dev/fd0 once I've booted up, but neither konqueror nor

wine/RosettaStone breakage from recent kernel commit
Hi, I've been running the foreign language training program The Rosetta Stone(TRS) on wine for months now, but a recent commit to the linux kernel has caused TRS to be unable to read the DVD drive, where the program's data files are kept. Strangely, winefile can still read the data DVD, but TRS cannot, and I'm stumped. Below is the guilty kernel commit (rather long, sorry). Can

Booting UDF?
Greetings, I wonder whether there are any plans to build udflinux or the likes. I've searched through the mailing list, finding out that should I create a mixed ISO9660/UDF filesystem. Unfortunately, that is not an option if I want to use a significant feature of UDF filesystem, which is writing. Making a mixed ISO9660/UDF, using mkisofs -udf, will (to my best knowledge) not allow me to

Problem with mkisofs (i guess :-))
Hello! I have a problem with a bootable cd that i'm trying to make .. The problem is that i don't know what all the mkisofs parameters do and because that weird things happen, if the filenames or directorynames contain spaces they do not open and if i'm in windows's safe mode it gives me an error message stating that the file or folder does not exist! Can anyone help with that?

isolinux bug?
Please forgive me if this is a known issue or "feature". I didn't notice anything in the list archives or the docs, so I'm assuming this is a bug. I was attempting to create a bootable LFS cd using the instructions found at http://hints.linuxfromscratch.org/hints/boot-cd_easy.txt. I wasn't following the steps exactly as I had some personal changes I wanted to make. One
