cleanWhitespace and parentNode
Hey cats, I seem to have ran into a problem in IE trying to use parentNode with the cleanWhitespace method. doing something like: var div = $(''mydiv''); Element.cleanWhitespace(div); works really great, but try doing: var div = $(''mydiv''); Element.cleanWhitespace(div.parentNode); or var div = $(''mydiv''); div = div.parentNode;

Multiple Ajax.Request or Ajax.Updater
I''m having a problem with multiple Ajax.Updater instances. I have five small chunks of data being loaded into my homepage, and they seem to be firing off one at a time. So the pieces load up in the order they were called. Maybe I''m being a noob, but shouldn''t all those requests just fire away and then place the content as it gets received? I was doing multiple versions,

Effect.toggle error in 1.6.1
I have this line of code: new Effect.toggle(document.getElementsByClassName(''modarea'', Event.findElement(ev,''li'')), ''blind''); I''ve confirmed that the Effect.toggle is indeed getting the proper element, however, I''m getting this in my javascript console: element.visible is not a function (effects.js: line 153) I

Problem passing event object
Hi all, I''m having a problem with an Ajax.Request. I can''t figure out how I can pass an event (an onclick on a checkbox) which causes the Ajax Request, to be recognized in an onSuccess function. Here''s my simplified code: var RequiredField = Class.create(); RequiredField.prototype = { initialize: function(chkbox) { this.chkbox = chkbox; this.chkbox.onclick =

Disabling anchor clicking in a draggable
Hey guys I have an interesting problem - I have some draggable elements (sortable actually), with links (<A>) inside them. I want the user to be able to click on the link, however if the user drags the element I don''t want the link to get fired. Can anyone think of a way to do this? It only needs to work in Firefox. Cheers -Rob

Questions about Sortable javascript
Hi, I''ve been playing with sortable, the demos on script.aculo.us and reading the javascript. I hope I''m not just missing the documentation somewhere but I can''t find it. I want to do something like Sortable for the admin side of an open source ecommerce project I''m working on [1]. I''m relatively new to DHTML but understand the basic ideas. If someone

Objects and Properties
I''m working on a legacy product and introducing prototype to make my life a little easier and I''m running into some problems with the properties being added to some built in objects like Array. The product has a form validator that''s used all over that adds fields (and some of the fields properties) that need to be checked to an array called fields (edited for

newbie oo question
Hey everyone, I''m trying to create an object that will have some properties predefined, but will allow me to pass in properties to override those standard props if needed. I''m trying something like: var myObject = Class.create(); myObject.prototype = { initialize: function(element, options) { this.element = $(element); this.name = this.element.id; this.options =

Sortable onUpdate problem
Hi, I have two sortables with different options (but same tags. just ''li''). When I drag an item from sortable1 to sortable2 I want it to gain the options that the sortable2 items have. I''ve tried all day to understand how Draggables and their observers are destroyed but I keep gettting buggy behavior. Part of the problem is the draggable and the draggableObserver are

My Tooltips contribution
All -- I've been working on a simple tooltip widget and thought I'd release it into the wild. It builds on the features found in Prototype 1.5.0 RC0 and Scriptaculous 1.6.1. Very basically, it walks down a list of links and if they have id, href and title attributes, displays a tooltip on mouseover. Styled with a few lines of CSS and background images. You can demo it here:

Prototype $$() on arbitary DOM element ?
I am bit confused with this function. Should I be able to pass in a DOM element e.g. someAjaxRequest.responseXML and interrogate it ? Seems not but perhaps I am missing something... TIA Matt

Why such bad performance with IE ?
Regarding DragDrop I am wondering what the deal about Internet Explorer 6 is. My application is near to final and now while testing browsers all but the IE6 are running as supposed to. Any other browser is performing smooth movement while IE compared provides a very bad expirience. I''ve seen some "tuning" infos on this list but they are either outdated or not actually working

RE: how to use Effect.BlindUp for resizing a div
var height = someElementReference.offsetHeight; and to set it: someElementReference.style.height = "100"; It is worth saying that offsetHeight and offsetWidth are non-standard compliance. They will give you the total rendering height and this will cause problems in IE since they use a different box model than FireFox. So you will have to do some height juggling in IE if you are using

XML Question
I''ve got an XML file which is pretty well structured. I need to retrieve specific elements from that file to fill out empty HTML elements on a page. I think what I need is xPath? Or - is that overkill? Is there some easier way to locate an XML element? What I have in mind is pulling the XML file using Ajax, then xPath to get the bits I need. Am I on the right path and does

I have the autocomplete div receiving a <UL> that looks like: <ul> <li>Name<br>Email</li> </ul> When the user hits enter and the value is filled into the text field it''s putting both the name and email in the field. I just want the name. Funny this works in Firefox but not IE. I
