testing wireless security
I have been playing around with 3 ath based FreeBSD boxes and seem to
have got everything going via WPA and a common PSK for 802.11x
auth. However, I want to have a bit more certainty about things
working properly.
What tools do people recommend for sniffing and checking a wireless network ?
In terms of IDS, is there any way to see if people are trying to
bruteforce the network ? I see

Hitachi Cable WIP-5000 Wifi phone?
I see that ABPTech are now offering this SIP Wifi phone. Does anyone
have an experience with it? I've considered the Pulver/Zyxel wifi phone
but would really rather have something that can handle WEP or WPA. I
run an 802.11g wlan with 256 bit WPA encryption.
This Hitachi phone looks very much like a cell phone, which could be
ideal.

3.2 kernel with C5? Or ndiswrapper?
I know, I know... don't use the non-standard kernels unless you have to...
BUT: I have a D-Link N150 USB card.
Bus 001 Device 004: ID 0846:9030 NetGear, Inc. WNA1100 Wireless-N 150 [Atheros AR9271]
This isn't supported in C5, but it is supported in newer kernels (ath9k_htc).
So let's try NDISwrapper:
# rpm -i kmod\-ndiswrapper\-1.56\-1.el5.elrepo.i686.rpm

WPA question
HI
I admit up front that I know just enough about wireless networking to know
that I don't know much at all about it.
That said, I'm hoping someone can help me learn a little bit...
Specifically, could a laptop running Centos 5.1 be expected to (be able
to) connect to a wireless access point using WPA2 security settings?
I don't know if WPA depends on hardware support, or if

laptop wireless--orinoco_cs, can it do WPA?
Hi!
I'm messing about with an old Toshiba Tecra laptop. i've got wireless
working well using NetworkManager and WEP. But I'm interested in finding
out if it is possible to get WPA/TKIP or other WPA variants to work with
that driver.
According to dmesg, boottime diagnostics include:
eth0: Hardware identity 0005:0004:0005:0000
eth0: Station identity 001f:0001:0008:000a
eth0: firmware

Re: ralink rt61 in centos 5 [solved]
Hello,
Maybe someone will run into the same problem, so here is how it works
for me.
I could not get work my wlan card (ralink rt61) with the driver from
rt2x00.serialmonkey.com under CentOS 5 (2.6.18-8.1.1.el5). All drivers
(beta and daily cvs) from this site freezes my system.
So I get the driver from the Ralink support at

how to get ASUS USB-N13 802.11n net adapter working on 5.5?
first, the short form of the question -- has anyone got that
wireless adapter working on centos 5.5 and associated with an access
point that uses WPA/WPA2 security?
and the details.
in a classroom where there is *no* wired networking at all, all PCs
have only that wireless net adapter, which works fine on windows but,
after installing centos 5.5, unsurprisingly, we have no networking.

Monitor not working for iwi on 7.0-BETA4
After reading that someone had problems with 802.11i/WPA2, I tested my
iwi device, too. 802.11i (as client) works, but disconnects about every
five minutes briefly, which is nothing new -- I had the same issue with
6.2-RELEASE.
In contrast to 6.2-RELEASE, monitor does not work. Kismet does
not receive anything, while it does with ath or ural (even at the same
time). dmesg with debug.iwi=2 is

wpa_supplicant and wi
I am using a Netgear MA401 with the wi driver, and am having trouble
using wpa_supplicant to set static WEP keys. I have the wlan_wep.ko
module loaded with wlan and wi built into the kernel. My
wpa_supplicant.conf looks like this:
ctrl_interface=/var/run/wpa_supplicant
ctrl_interface_group=wheel
network={
ssid="INTERNERD"
scan_ssid=1
priority=1
key_mgmt=NONE

Wifi WEP / Cisco aironet wireless internal card 802.11b
Hi,
I have a IBM ThinkPat T30 a Cisco Aironet wireless internal in the
laptop 802.11b only.
It works great with open Acess points, but when i try to connect to
encripted ones.
I got the dialog box asking for the passphrase 128 bit, I enter it and
after that i receive the dialog box again!
Maybe my card do not support WEP or I am doing something wrong?
Here is part of what i can see on

ralink rt61 in centos 5
Hello,
Does anybody knows if the rt61 driver from rt2x00.serialmonkey.com
works under centos 5?
And if so, what is the recommended command to build this driver from
sources, 'make install' or 'make install-fedora'?
Thanks a lot!
I need this driver for my ralink wlan card on my notebook.
I also could build this driver under a fresh centos 5 installation, but
it freezes my notebook

OT: adding a wifi adapter to openvswitch
Hi all,
Finally, I have installed openvswitch from source to two CentOS hosts:
one 6.x and other 7.x.
I will do some tests using openvswitch bridges to my KVM machines. One
of these tests is to add a wlan0 adapter from comandline but only when
this wlan0 is associated with a ssid without assign an IP.
Is this posible? Do I nees to add some ebtables like, for example,

Wireless LANs and Asterisk
Has anyone had any experience with wireless LANs and Asterisk?
We have and here are my impressions.
We configured an Asterisk in the office as a precaution to see how it
would work for our own retail customers. Our office is open space, about
800 sq ft. (20x40 area). We use Snom200 and Grandstream SIP phones.
Using the latest Linksys wireless access point (WAP54g) and 3 wireless
bridges

UTStarcom F1000 - WLAN connection unreliable
Hi list,
I bought two UTStarcom F1000 phones, pre-equipped with the latest
firmware, including WPA support. Those are configured to register to an
asterisk server on the internet (not LAN), and registration works.
Calling and being called also, with transfer and all bells and whistles.
After a few minutes up to 5 hours (varies widely), the display tells me
that an Accesspoint is not available

WiFi phones and WDS (Wireless Distribution System)
I'm about to start working with WiFi phones on my Asterisk
installations.
Can anyone tell me if they are using WiFi phones on wireless network
that is extended with WDS and how well the phone handles jumping from
access point to access point while on a call?
Do any WiFi phones support WPA encryption or are they all still under
the impression they are only being used on public hot spots?

Issue with installation on wireless-only desktop workstation, CentOS 7(1511)
I realize that many on this list have likely applauded the
NetworkManager package split that removed wireless stuff into its own
package, NetworkManager-wifi, because for wired workstations and servers
it might be desirable to not have any wifi software installed. And I
believe it was a sound technical decision to do the split.
However, in doing a fresh installation of what most call CentOS
