Does prototype get rid of PeriodicalExecuter once it is stop()?
Hello,
in my app the user can click "start" to ask for regular refreshments
of the data, and can also click "stop" to stop this refreshments (and
then he can click "start" again to restart the process). im just
wondering that , if he keeps starting and stopping, that is creating
new PeriodicalExecuters and stoping them, if there will be any memory
issues, does

prototype PeriodicalExecuter pause/restart patch
I''ve come up with a patch to PeriodicalExecuter which allows for
pausing and restarting without losing the time remaining. I''ve
searched for something like this, but the only one I found linked to a
dead blog. I wondered if anyone would look over the code, maybe it
will make its way into the official release.

Stopping the Ajax.PeriodicalUpdater -- My Kludge?
Well, I''ve been burning the midnight oil trying to figure out how to
issue the stop() command to a PeriodicUpdater. I''ve come up with a
solution that uses setTimeouts to call the stop function. I think my
solution is very kludgey... especially since I''m new to Javascript +
Prototype.
Can anyone let me know if the below code is at all proper? :)

PeriodicalExecuter stops when form is submitted in Safari 3
Hi I''m having a problem using PeriodicalExecuter with a form.
I have a monitoring pane that updates status of form processing,
and it stops working when I submit a form. It works with Safari 2,
IE, Firefox, but not with Safari 3.
I''ve made a test script: http://www.charmm-gui.org/test.html
It updates a textarea, but it stops updating when the form is
submitted in Safari 3. Any

PeriodicalExecuter and clearInterval
I apologize if this is not an appropriate question for this list (I couldn''t
find a mailing list for prototype). Anybody know of a way to use the stop
the PeriodicalExecuter in prototype from executing? In traditional js, I
would just call "clearInterval(id)".
Many Thanks,
Josh

Turn off Responder for PeriodicalExecuter?
I''ve got a PeriodicalExecuter refreshing some content on my homepage. I''ve also got a Responder
popping up a ''Working...'' box when ajax calls are being made. Is there a way to tell the Responder
not to run when the PE is running?
I''m new to prototype and scriptaculous so no assumptions of my knowledge are too low. :)

RE: Prototype: correct useage of onComplete withAjax.PeriodicalUpdater

It looks like you need to pass your callback method as an ''insertion''
method in the options. This takes two parameters, the first will
probably be the

RE: Prototype: correct useage of onCompletewithAjax.PeriodicalUpdater
The only call that PeriodicalUpdater will make periodically to you is
the insertion call.
I think of onComplete as being ''I''ve done everything I was going to do'',
which for Updater is right after it''s done a single update, but for
PeriodicalUpdater, it''s after it''s finished all of its updates, so
you''ll only get it once for any call

Prototype: correct useage of onComplete with Ajax.PeriodicalUpdater
Hello all,
I know it''s a Prototype question, but I hope someone can tell me what
I''m doing wrong (I hope Prototype gets documented soon ;-(
Problem: using a onComplete callback with Ajax.PeriodicalUpdater
(using scriptaculous 1.5 with Prototype 1.4)
Works:
function fooBar() {
Element.hide(''foobar'');

prototype 1.6 Ajax.PeriodicalUpdater executing old scripts??
Hello ,
I have a PeriodicalUpdater executing every x seconds and sends a ajax
request to update an element.
Each time it comes back, the element is getting replaced with some
html and and possibly <script>coolFunction()</script>.
This seems to work fine when for prototype 1.5.
However when I upgraded to prototype 1.6, it seems to execute
coolFunction() as many times as the request has

Stopping Ajax.PeriodicalUpdater based on response
I have an Ajax.PeriodicalUpdater updating a div on my page and I want
to be able to execute the stop method when the div contains certain
content. As I understand it, I cannot pass in an options.onComplete
handler and onSuccess is executed before the response is completely
interpreted by the browser. I tried using Ajax.Responders, but that
didn''t seem to help. Do I need use AjaxUpdater

PeriodicalUpdater onComplete broken?
Using the PeriodicalUpdater, I''m finding the onComplete is not firing.
I thought I''d get some feedback here before filing a bug report.

The above are examples of this for prototype 1.6.0 & 1.6.0.1.
I''m expecting the onComplete to fire after the update takes place, per

AutoCompleter IE6 and SELECT Element Clash
Hello,
I am using the AutoCompleter to great effect. However, the site design I
have been constrained by has <select> elements/drop down boxes below the
AutoCompleter field. This means that in Internet Explorer 6 the drop
down elements appear on top of the floating DIV when rendered in the
browser. Mozilla floats the DIV on top of the select elements as
expected.
Has anyone encountered,

prototype.js
Hi *,
We don''t know if you guys are the right audience, but we got a problem
with prototype.js we need to solve.
Essentially, it is a compatibility bug with the IE.
We wrote a component so it updates itself periodically using AJAX. we used the
prototype.js to accomplish this (using the periodicalUpdater object).
now the component works fine using firefox or opera, but NOT with IE.

Yet another periodicalupdater question
I have something I want to do with the periodicalupdater..
1) place text in a field by id (I know how to do this part as
periodicalupdater makes is quite easy)
2) run a javascript statement to assign a value to a variable.
Any ideas how I can do this with one periodicalupdater statement?
Thanks,

Managing PeriodicalExecuters in an Ajax app. How?
Hi all
I have to deal with multiple PeriodicalExecuters over several
Interfaces. Each has it own. Now this all works, but i when i go back
and forth between them i spawn another and another etc...
I tried to push the instance of PE to a global array and on each
change in the interface invoke a stop() on them. This sounds okay, but
it is obviously not working 100% of the time.
Any ideas how to

Re: using Ajax.PeriodicalUpdater in iPhone
it''s probably the iPhone.
I mean, would you *really* want your phone to be connected to the internet
all the time?

PeriodicalUpdater and popups.
Hi,
I don''t know what might cause this, but maybe you do. If I put the
code below in a html-file and open it in a popup. I get an error on
row 129 in the latest prototype.js bundled with 1.6.5.
popup.html:
