Sortable and the Server
I want to build a sortable list that updates the server when the item
is dropped into its new position. How to create a sortable list is
clear, but I''m looking for an example of how to integrate this with
the server side. Are there any examples or tutorials around? I''m
working in a java environment.
Thanks,

serialize()
Near the end of the Sortable.serialize() method, there is a split
command that splits on an underscore. What is the convention it''s
following here and is it documented somewhere?
Thanks,
Jamie
serialize: function(element) {
element = $(element);
var sortableOptions = this.options(element);
var options = Object.extend({
tag: sortableOptions.tag,

performance
I''ve got a page I''ve implemented a bunch of observables and
sortables. There are around 330 items in the list. The Observables
(for hide/show of sublists) don''t seem to impact performance, but the
Sortables take a very long time to load when the page is refreshed or
submitted--even after accounting for the server-side processing and
latency. I''ve

RE: Error: "onclick() is not a function"
I see what he is saying now. When you assign a click event with the
Event.observe it does not allow you to call it with the
$(''xxx'').onclick(); command as it''s looking for the onclick tag in the a
tag.
I''m stumped on a way to get this to work.

sortable lists, database update
Hi,
I have some images and I want to be able to drag them into the order I
want and have the database updated accordingly. I have an unordered
list elsewhere in the application that works well, but for the images
I cant get it working.
In my controller I have:
def updateorder
params[:images].each_with_index { |id,idx| ProductImage.update(id,
:display_order => idx) }
render :text

How serialize after hiding a sortable element
Hi,
I successfully build sortable environment with back-end "update" into
a mysql database to store positions.
Now I try to close a sortable element and try to update the sortable
elements position of the container.
What is the best way to achieve that ?
An effect.xxxx from scripty to hide the sortable element work fine but
I can''t get the list/position of the remaining

a better question
I''m trying to call a click() event on an <a href> that has an
Observable registered for it. Something like:
<a href="#" id="toggle_1929">show</a>

Event.observe("toggle_1929", ''click'', function(event){ Element.toggle
("group_1929"); return false; });
...
$("toggle_1929").click(); //this throws

Ajax.InPlaceEditor onSuccess: ???
I''m looking for onSuccess: in Ajax.InPlaceEditor, but it doesn''t
appear to exist. onComplete isn''t what I need because I only want my
callback on success. Is there a way to do this?
Thanks,

Sortable.create format
Hi
I have a simple question. Default format in sortable.create is:
/^[^_\-](?:[A-Za-z0-9\-\_]*)[_](.*)$/
and sortable.serialize returns "key[]=value&key[]=value&key[]=value...
"
What format should I use in sortable.create, if i want to have
something like that (after serialize):
"value,value,value"
Thanks,
Sever

sorting error "Error: item.id has no properties"
I''ve got some sorting working now, but when the page loads and when I
drag, I keep getting this error:
"Error: item.id has no properties"
My <ul> and <li> elements all have ids. Do child elements all need ids?
Here''s the code from dragdrop.js where the error is being thrown ( a
few lines from the bottom of the file, line 501--HEAD version)

Sortable: Ajax not firing?
Using Rails to generate a sortable list, I get the draggable/sortable page
elements, but Ajax never fires back the post-sorted list. (I''ve checked with
IE & Firefox, the "save this order to the DB" controller hasn''t been
called.)
The View:
<p>Drag to sort.<span id="sort_info"></span></p>

latest prototype breaks toggle
I''ve found that when I revert this change, toggle works again.
Otherwise, it''s broken (Mac OS Tiger, Safari and Firefox):
- element.style.display =
- (element.style.display == ''none'' ? '''' : ''none'');
+ Element[Element.visible(element) ? ''show'' : ''hide''](element);

Sortable as a class?
Hi there!
My first post to this list, so first of all many thanks for the amazing
Scriptaculous library. I''m currently using it for some nice Ajax effects
in Apache Cocoon (http://cocoon.apache.org/).
I''m currently struggling with Sortable, which I would like to adapt as
the conventions used in Cocoon are different from those currently used.
Basically, I would like to send

Question for Gurus: Sortable Lists
I''ve been stuck on this particular problem for quite some time now. If I
don''t explain it well enough I''d be happy to explain more.
I have a group of draggables and a droppable object. I''ve created a
function for the Droppable.onDrop event so when I drop one of these items I
check (via an array) to see if it has already been added to the droppable.
If it

Problems using Sortable with an onUpdate callback
Hi all:
I''m using sortable (very cool stuff!) on a series of divs with an
onUpdate callback. Everything appears to work alright until I try to
pass a parameter to my callback function like this:
Sortable.create( ''page_33'',
{
tag: ''div'',
onUpdate: updateOrder(''page_33'')
}
);
When I pass that parameter to the

MaxConnections in IE and Ajax.Request/Sortable
Hi all,
IƤve built some functionality in a CMS where you can drag and drop
small elements on the page between 2+ panes/containers/divs. Whenever
a drag-drop event has occurred (onUpdate) I make a Ajax.Request to
save the new layout in the CMS.
The code is as follows:
in an onload-function:
var a = ["subcontent", "main"];
for (var i=0; id=a[i]; i++) {
if ($(id)) {

Bug report about sortable.serialize
At least, I think it is a bug.
When I use it on a ul that has 8 li, it returns me 9 results. I send it to
PHP, and it returns me 9 results too.
It''s on the 1.5pre_2
Thanks
(note : the bug ''could'' be me, but i''m quite unsure)

Sortable Tree Modification
Hi, I''ve been working on a sortable tree modification.
You can get what I have done so far here: http://
www.oriontransfer.co.nz/Sortable+List.zip
Firstly, serialize needs work to support a tree structure. Secondly,
I have not tested if it still works with lists property (I''m sure it
would work fine, but I haven''t tested it). Finally, I need to merge
this code
