Project idea
Hi all
I have an idea for a project that I think would be very useful using
web 2.0. Are there any people out there who may be interested?
Sounds a little vague at the moment but I am not certain how much info
I can divulge at this point.
I would like the project to be a free-to-use one.
Regards,
William

RE: Error: "onclick() is not a function"
I see what he is saying now. When you assign a click event with the
Event.observe it does not allow you to call it with the
$(''xxx'').onclick(); command as it''s looking for the onclick tag in the a
tag.
I''m stumped on a way to get this to work.

RE: Replacing an html chunk with a different htmlchunk
Actually, I see there are two other prototype calls:
Element.remove(''foo'');
Which does a parentNode.removeChild(), and
Element.update(''foo'', ''some html'');
Which does element.innerHTML = ''some html'', and executes any script that
is in the string you pass in.

RE: Support for window scrolling for draganddrop
To answer my own question, yes. I looked at the trunk and it passes the
option on from Sortable.

Question abour Draggables & Droppables - my code example
hi i think my example is very simple and straightforward so i''m not sure if
it meets your needs (change revert:true to revert:false from a draggable
after I drop it on a droppable so it doesn''t return to its original place.)
i did this
# 2 divs created here
<script language="javascript">
new Draggable(''drag'', {revert: false});

RE: extending an existing DOM object in aprototypeway
..lol... and I screwed up the option... one more time...
var myActiveSpanBase = new ActiveSpan({color: "red"});
Object.extend($(''someSpan''), myActiveSpanBase);
$(''someSpan'').setup();
Or, more concisely...
Object.extend($(''someSpan''), new ActiveSpan({color: "blue"});
$(''someSpan'').setup();

RE: Re: form elements in sortable lists
I never got it to work back on one of the early release candidates of
scriptaculous 1.5. However, I thought I read in one of the release
notes that it was fixed. Are you using the latest version? I ended up
just disabling the sortable while they were in ''editing'' mode, and then
recreating it after they were done editing.

Nope, nothing new. I haven''t had time to get back to it since I last posted the code, but I might over the next few days as there''s a bit of a lull at work.

RE: Form.serialize and Ajax.Request ->fileserialization and encoding
I''ve not looked into how it''s done but adding an attachment in Gmail (UK version) uploads the file without refreshing the window, and http://www.yousendit.com <http://www.yousendit.com/> appears to send a file via some sort of RPC or AJAX. Maybe this could be another starting point for you.

RE: Form.serialize and Ajax.Request->fileserialization and encoding
I''d bet money that they use a hidden iframe. Gmail already uses that to
avoid breaking the back button, from what I''ve read. It''s impossible to
send multipart form data through XMLHttpRequest, or so everything I read
says and my own personal attempts confirm. There is an IE ActiveX
plugin that will let you send files in a similar fashion, but it''s IE
only. I

RE: manipulate <td>''s and their content by grabbingtheir classNames
Or...
var myTDs = new Array();
$A($("main").childNodes).each(function(tr)
{
$A(tr.childNodes).each(function(td)
{
myTDs.push(td);
});
});

Yea that''s what I am seeing also.
Think I got round this before by turning the structure into a table :(

RE: extending an existing DOM object in a prototypeway
Gosh darn Outlook seems to have stripped some newlines from my
response... last few lines should read...
var myActiveSpanBase = new ActiveSpan({"red"});
Object.extend($(''someSpan''), myActiveSpanBase);
$(''someSpan'').setup();
Or, more concisely...
Object.extend($(''someSpan''), new ActiveSpan({"blue"});

RE: Yahoo!-like Event object emulation/abstractionin Prototype?
Event.observe(myelement, ''click'', myfunc.bindAsEventListener());
That might fix your wagon.

RE: help with syntax
I guess the first step is reading up on OOP in javascript...
http://www.webreference.com/js/column79/
http://www.codeproject.com/aspnet/JsOOP1.asp
Then, check out the definitive prototype.js guide...

RE: Prototype: correct useage of onCompletewithAjax.PeriodicalUpdater
The only call that PeriodicalUpdater will make periodically to you is
the insertion call.
I think of onComplete as being ''I''ve done everything I was going to do'',
which for Updater is right after it''s done a single update, but for
PeriodicalUpdater, it''s after it''s finished all of its updates, so
you''ll only get it once for any call
