character encoding in ajax submit
Hey all,
Anyone got some quick advice on international character submission via
Prototype''s Form.Serialize?
The base scenario:
I set the charset on my page to ISO-8859-1, which seems to be what
everyone uses. If I submit a regular form with a standard webpage, I
get international characters (like an accented "e", or and AE legature)
encoded as 1-byte ascii code

Position.clone() duplicate
Haven''t seen anyone ask about this yet...
why are there 2 Position.clone() methods in Prototype.js? It seems that
the second would overwrite the first, and the second has lots more
options. Am I missing something?
Thanks,
rahul

problem with sortable lists and IE
* I sent this message previously from the wrong address so it didn''t go
through so, I apologize in advance if a duplicate shows up *
Hello, I am very new to script.aculo.us and prototype but was trying to
implement some of the cool ajax functionality with Webwork.
I have been having a little trouble with the sortable element demo. I have

Sudden Javascript Console noise in firefox
I have been using the latest version of Firefox and Scriptaculous for about
a week now, with no problems.
Now I get a lot of noise in the javascript console out of the blue:

RE: document.getElementsByClassName (prototype) andElement.childrenWithClassName (scriptaculous) redundancy?
Isn''t the difference that the scriptaculous one only gets child nodes
from the node you specify, whereas the prototype one gets all in the
entire document?
Still, it would be nice to just have the one, and let you pass in the
document element if you wanted all of them.
Just guessing, really. I haven''t looked at the code in question.

refreshing JS libraries on client?
Hi folks,
So I''ve got this app built on prototype, with a bunch of extra JS
classes to do what we want. Now the problem is, when I make a change to
one of those JS files (or an upgrade to prototype itself), how do I
ensure that the client browsers refresh their cache with the latest JS?
Clearly I want the browse to cache the large JS files, but I also want
that cache to expire at

RE: scriptaculous appear effect and tiny_mce bug onopera 9
I seem to recall the Effect.Appear setting the final opacity to 0.99 to
avoid some bug on some browser; anyone remember the specifics? Seems
like we should probably just conditionally check for the broken browser
and set to 0.99 for only that one, otherwise leave it at 1.0, but I know
I don''t have the full picture of why it was necessary or whether it
still is.

InPlaceEditor scrolls to top in Firefox?
When I click an InPlaceEditor field in Firefox 1.0.7, the page scrolls
up to the top. That''s disconcerting, and often ends up with the
editable field out of the viewable pane. I can duplicate this on both
Mac and PC. Is there a way to prevent this? Even the demo at
http://wiki.script.aculo.us/scriptaculous/show/Ajax.InPlaceEditor does
this.

Re: function.prototype.bind return
Ah - thanks Michael.
Event.stop is precisely what I was looking for. I can just grab the
event object inside the handler that I registered previously and pass it
to an Event.stop call, and get exactly what I want.
Thanks,
Rahul

Nope, nothing new. I haven''t had time to get back to it since I last posted the code, but I might over the next few days as there''s a bit of a lull at work.

RE: Re: form elements in sortable lists
I never got it to work back on one of the early release candidates of
scriptaculous 1.5. However, I thought I read in one of the release
notes that it was fixed. Are you using the latest version? I ended up
just disabling the sortable while they were in ''editing'' mode, and then
recreating it after they were done editing.

Passing "accept" option through a Sortable
Hi All,
I''m attempting to tweak Scriptaculous 1.5R4 to provide the ability to
pass the "accept" option through the Sortable.create(...) call to the
enclosed Droppable(s). I''m far from a JavaScript expert
(Scriptaculous & AJAX have convinced me to finally start learning),
so I''m kinda fumbling in the dark here.
Thus far I''ve made two

Very cool scriptaculous table drag and drop stopped working on new version
Using older versions of prototype.js (1.4.0_rc2) and scriptaculous
(1.5._rc4), I had a master table containg other tables (sections), each
of which had rows. Using tbody''s as containers, I could drag the
section tables up and down over the other section tables AND drag the
rows in a section table up and down within that table or into the rows
of the other section tables, all very

Scriptaculous and Photo Flipper a la TagWorld?
I saw a Flash-based photo-flipper on TagWorld (
http://www.tagworld.com/thepostalservice) and thought it would be nice to do
something similar in Scripaculous. Anyone interested in taking a shot at it?
Since rotation isn''t supported in CSS, what I would imagine would be a
z-ordered "stack" of DIVs, possibly of slightly different sizes or just
x/y-offset a bit from each other.
