DEPRECATION WARNING: Passing a template handler in the template name is deprecated. (rspec + haml)
I upgraded a small project that I had created on 3.1.3 to 3.2.0.rc2. Running rspec on it brings about a large amount of these messages: DEPRECATION WARNING: Passing a template handler in the template name is deprecated. You can simply remove the handler name or pass render :handlers => [:haml] instead. (called from block (2 levels) in <top (required)> at

Sprocket Digest + Debug combination broken?
Hi all, we''re just in the process of upgrading to the new asset pipeline, but I''m having an annoying issue with Sprockets. It turns out that I can''t enable both *debug* and *digest* in development mode. When I do, I get a Errno::ENAMETOOLONG because the digest becomes the *entire* *content* of the file instead of a hex. I get this with both sass and javascript.

rails g problem
When I enter rails g, I get the bunch of logs behind. Any idea what I''m missing? I though it''s trying to install minitest, so I manually installed it. Still this error persists. $ rails g gem install minitest /Library/Ruby/Gems/1.8/gems/activesupport-3.2.8/lib/active_support/dependencies.rb:251:in `require'': no such file to load -- minitest/unit

Two Separate Issues: rails generate
Hi folks. I am just starting rails and have two current issues. I have installed everything, I think, and (first) I''m having permissions feedback upon rails generate: > $ rails generate > /Library/Ruby/Gems/1.8/gems/railties-3.1.0/lib/rails/script_rails_loader.rb:11: warning: Insecure world writable dir /Library/WebServer/Documents in PATH, mode 040777 >

Cucumber/RSpec ::: Capybara? Webrat What am I using??
Hey everybody I''m currently reading through the Pragmatic Programmers RSpec book, and I really enjoy it. But I’m facing some problems because of the fact that the book is already some years old, I guess. I have installed rvm and use Ruby 1.9.3, and I didn’t really get some Rails code examples to work properly, so I tried it with a 1.8.7 installation, but there I had some other problems

staging server unexpectedly started installing gems during staging deploy
I have a production server and a staging server and a production git branch and a staging git branch for the same repository on github. The production git branch and staging git branch are identical. I got my staging server running and during the second deploy, something unexpected started happening: ... ** [out :: xxx.xx.xx.xxx] Installing multi_json (1.5.0) ** [out :: xxx.xx.xx.xxx] **

cache-busting non-digest assets in sprockets in development a good idea? should headers in sprockets be configurable?
Just monkey patched Sprockets in our Rails 3.2.9 app to override the Cache-Control header for html assets that we need to tweak more often in development, but that we don''t want to use digests/fingerprinting with: # Sprockets 2.x patch if Rails.env.development? module Sprockets module Server private alias_method :sprockets_headers, :headers def headers(env,

Sprockets, JST, Eco and escaping
While it was a good move from Rails part to escape ERB <%= %> tags by default, it doesn''t seem to happen to Sprockets as well. The strange bit is that according to Sprockets documentation, it would be just a matter of naming your template as .jst.eco to enable Eco: https://github.com/sstephenson/sprockets#javascript-templating-with-ejs-and-eco Then, extracted from Eco

Parameterized ActiveRecord Associations: Any such thing?
Hi list, how are ya? So, my current project is just begging for the ability to have parameterized associations in my ActiveRecord classes. Basically I need something that is a cross between named scopes and standard associations (has_many specifically). I''m wondering if such a thing exists or, if not, if anyone else has an elegant, equivalent solution? Example: class Sprocket <

Asset Pipeline and Sprockets
Ok I would love to work out how to use the new Raisl 3.1 Asset Pipeline with SCSS variables, mixins etc and being able to use the asset_path tag. What I have so far is this. Im my application.css.scss I have the following. *= require_self *= require layout *= require home This works fine with using the asset_path helper and variable within layout ie, // layout.css.scss.erb

Rails 3.1.3 -> 3.2.3 upgrade, assets can't be found
Hello everyone, I''m upgrading one application from Rails 3.1.3 to 3.2.3 and run into a nasty problem that none of the assets are found (everything worked great before upgrade). I''ve investigated for several hours and it seems that the root of the problem is that the order of initializers becomes wrong after initializers.tsort (in railties-3.2.3/lib/rails/ initializable.rb:54).
