Confused with profile filesystem permissions
What should be the filesystem permissions for the profile share? Something like
0700 user:group for the directory?
I'm getting permission denied errors from winxp pro sp2 and samba 3.0.8pre2.
Does it have something to do with "profile acls"?

When is a machine SID created?
I have been having a problem with 'net getdomainsid' on a machine that I
set up to be a BDC.
# net getdomainsid
Could not fetch local SID
tdbdump shows that there is no machine SID in secrets.db, so I'm thinking
that I overlooked the step that creates a machine SID. What creates the machine
SID and when? Also, is it the hostname or the netbios name that samba uses as
the machine

net getdomainsid returns two SIDs - how to remove one?
Hi,
How can I remove the "domain PHOENIX" SID from the PDC? It was a test
domain I had set up before this machine went live around 18 months ago.
I believe this is the issue that's causing me to have problems migrating
this PDC to a new machine.
This is the output from the current PDC:
phoenix:/ # net getlocalsid
SID for domain PHOENIX is: S-1-5-21-3597458131-155160113-1223051555

SID of member server in Samba domain (smbldap_search_domain_info: NT_STATUS_UNSUCCESSFUL)
I have a domain with Samba 3 acting as PDC, and using LDAP (passdb backend = ldapsam).
I now wanted to add a second Samba 3 machine as a simple file server. I get errors
with getdomainsid and getlocalsid, so there is obviously still something wrong with
my config.
The PDC runs Samba 3.5.6 on Debian Squeeze. Sid queries return:
# net getdomainsid
SID for local machine MY_PDC_HOST is:

Classic Upgrade changes domain SID
Dear samba experts,
I did a classic upgrade from a Samba 3.6.14 samba NT4 DC to a
Samba 4.18.2 AD-DC. It does not work and I just want to make sure
that I have the correct understanding of our domain SID.
On our old Samba server net getdomainsid shows:
SID for local machine SERV00 is: S-1-5-21-1415314133-2460755331-2761616138
SID for domain NAV is: S-1-5-21-1415314133-2460755331-2761616138

secrets failed
Well, i have a serious problem, all of an sudden samba rejects
all my workstations and servers!
my samba PDC reports back to me, secrets_fetch failed!
nothing has changed, or altered.. it comes out of the blue!
i did upgrade samba from 3.0.11 to 3.0.21, but that was 2 weeks ago, and
the upgrade worked. (until now that is)
going back to 3.0.11 didn't work,
I'm kinda lost here..

Samba4 machine fails to join in samba3 domain
Louis is right, you should upgrade, but, in the meantime, try adding
'ntlm auth = yes' to your smb.conf, see if that helps.

PLEASE HELP! Can't add machines to domain!
I have spent days now trying to debug why I can not add machines to the
domain. I am using samba 3.0.23c with an openldap backend. I can
authenticate fine using smbclient with the administrator account but
when I go to add a machine it fails. I have checked the debug logs and
know what is happening, I am just not sure why or how to fix it. I am
using the idealx scripts to add machines.

Samba PDC group list empty
Dear samba users,
I have very strange problem. I have Samba PDC up and running, but only

Samba domain member and wheel group
Hi, I have a CentOS 4.1 box at work running Samba 3 which I have added
as a domain member to an existing Windows domain with a Windows PDC.
The box running Samba has no local unix users and groups except for root
and the other builtin accounts. All user authentication is done through
pam_winbind and user information is handled by winbind. What I would
like to do is have users that are members of

SambaSID's on PDC/BDC
I have a server acting as a PDC, and another server acting as a BDC.
When I run 'net getlocalsid'
on each, they return different numbers. If I run 'net getlocalsid
domain_name' on the BDC, it returns the PDC's sid.
Is it import for each machine to have the same SID?
Thanks,
Chris

Upgrading from samba-3.0.34 to 3.4.4 - result: domain controller unavailable
Hi.
Today I upgraded samba from 3.0.34 to 3.4.4 without changing anything in
smb.conf but with changing local and domain sid:
old samba 1) net getdomainsid and getlocalsid
new samba 2) net setdomainsid and setlocalsid to ones (both the same)
from 1)
after restarting samba I can't log into domain: XP says : domain
controller unavailable ... I tried to rejoin domain - and I can ;)

Could not fetch domain SID
I see there is "net setdomainsid" to define the domains SID. I am rather
puzzled with this command. There isn't some kind of algorithm that define
a SID?

net getlocalsid: is this a bug?
I noticed the following:
Suppose that we have a server called "SMALLSERVER" working as a PDC for
"SMALLDOMAIN**".
When I enter "net getlocalsid" I get the following output:
SID for domain SMALLSERVER is: S-1-5-21-xxxxxxxxx-xxxxxxxxx-xxxxxxxxx
But when I enter "net getdomainsid" I get:
SID for local machine SMALLSERVER is:
