What CentOS (5) packages are needed to setup X11 forwarding? I don't want to install a full desktop, just the minimal to forward some server windows to my desktop. Regards, Dnk

X11 forwarding and LBX
So I'm working from home today, and for the first time I've tried running Evolution over a forwarded X11 connection. Even though work has a T1 and I have 640k at home, and ssh is compressing, it's ... rather slow. So I fire off lbxproxy and try to run an xterm to see if it works. No dice, authentication denied. Does anybody have any experience with this? Is it possible to run

virt-viewer X forwarding through ssh broken since FC17 upgrade?
Ever since I upgraded my laptop from FC15 to FC17, I've been getting this message when I ssh to some RHEL6 hosts inside Red Hat. In particular, I'm trying to do this: virt-viewer --connect \ qemu+ssh://kvm11.devlab.phx1.redhat.com/system \ bork-s01.candlepin.dev.devlab.phx1.redhat.com This is the message I get: X11 forwarding request failed on channel 0 A viewer window pops

x11 forwarding problem
I login from system using Openssh 4.0p1 or 4.1p1 to systems running Openssh before 3.9p1 or 3.7p1. It appears the X11 stuff are either blocked or not recognised. I get errors like "xterm Xt error: Can't open display: <host>:10.0" or "X11 connection rejected because of wrong authentication. X connection to localhost:10.0 broken....." depending on whether I use

X11 forwarding does not work as normal user
We installed openssh 3.1p1 on our Solaris 2.8 machine using gcc 2.95.2. During the installation, we modified ssh_config and sshd_config to enable X11 and agent forwarding. In sshd_config, we changed the following line to read: X11Forwarding yes In ssh_config, we changed the following two lines to read: ForwardAgent yes ForwardX11 yes Both files are set to permission readable

What's the point of using xauth when using X11 forwarding?
I still don't understand the point of authenticating myself to my own local X server when using X11 forwarding, I tried: ssh -R /tmp/.X11-unix/X0:/tmp/.X11-unix/X0 user at server # and then DISPLAY=:0 xterm and everything is working fine without the mess with xauth, so why it is required to use use xauth when doing X11 forwarding with ssh?

ssh -Y X-forwarding?
On rare occasions I want to run a remote X command (like 'meld' to interactively merge changes in files) and normally 'ssh -Y remote_host' from a terminal in an NX/freenx window that is acting as my desktop to start and any X program subsequently started would open in a new window via X-forwarding - at least when the target is a 5.x host. I don't do it often enough to remember

X11 forwards and libwrap support
Hi! Is there any reason why support for the libwrap code isn't included in the X11 forwarding code? I'd like to restrict access to that port. How many applications would break if the tcp port would be closed and only the unix-domain socket would be available? It's true that x11 forwardings can be considered as a security risk and they are disabled because of that by default. I

minimal X applications needed to export to remote server?
I'm running a piece of network backup software called 'bacula', on a minimal CentOS 6.4 install. I got everything working pretty well, but there's one piece giving me some problem-- a component which gives status info via a GUI. In the past, on previous installations, I could ssh to the bacula server with the -X option, and run the application (called 'bat'), and it would

X11 forwarding not working.
Hi! I'm having a difficult time getting X11 forwarding to work. Since I've read the docs completely about this, this must be an SSH bug which is likely because I'm using Gentoo as the SSH server. When trying to forward X11 connections, I get X11 connection rejected because of wrong authentication. kwrite: cannot connect to X server XXXXXXXXX:10.0 Using command ssh -Y -p 1111 -4

OpenSSH 3.9p1 X11 forwarding
Hi, We upgraded from 3.7.1p2 to 3.9p1. The behaviour of the X11 forwarding changed significantly, it is much slower. See below the truss output (server side which runs 3.7.1p2) an check for the timestamp (6 seconds delay). Do you have any idea what may causes this behaviour? Platform is Solaris 5.9 Generic_117171-05. Thanks in advance, Andy Kocher 19279: 9.5463 sigaction(SIGCLD,

Failed X11 authentication does the wrong thing
Hi, if I do the following: ssh -X localhost su - another_user xterm I get: X connection to ming:10.0 broken (explicit kill or server shutdown). Where what is really wanted was something like: Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server Xlib: Client is not authorized to connect to Server xterm Xt error: Can't open display: :0.0 'tis easy to reproduce the bug, but the debug
