Dovecot's brittle configuration syntax
Hi there,
Whilst trying to come up with a minimal configuration for Dovecot:
http://dabase.com/blog/Minimal_Dovecot/
I noticed the configuration syntax is a bit admin unfriendly. It's easy
to get an infamous Error code 89.
Is there any back story to the grammar or language this configuration is
in?
Kind regards,

debian unstable : mutt polling imap mailboxes
Package: dovecot
Version: 0.99.10.4-2
I am accessing my IMAP folder on my ~/Maildir using mutt via Dovecot and
I have this problem whereby mutt incorrectly reports I have new mail in a
"mailboxes" polled mailbox.
This happens all the time when I press the key bound to change mailbox.
I use courier IMAP at school, and I have not experienced this problem. A
bug with dovecot or mutt?

CachedModel anyone?????
Can any one help explain this output in my log. I have memcache-client and
cached_model setup for a model City but when I run my app, this is the
output I get (this is on a second pass so theoretically the data is already
in the cache).
MemCache Get (0.000469) active_record:City:1802387
City Load (0.001015) SELECT * FROM cities WHERE (cities.id = 1802387)
LIMIT 1
MemCache Set (0.000776)

Nouveau wiki migration
Hi everybody,
I think it's time to finally move our wiki from the old infrastructure
over to gitlab pages.
This comes with several benefits:
* full control through git over the ikiwiki pipeline (setup files,
plugins, system packages, ...)
* random users are able to create MRs against the wiki as long as they
are willing to create a gitlab account.
* possible to migrate over to a different

Styling Markdown approaches
Hi guys,
I wrote a markdown based Web editor thing for my sister:
http://ws.dabase.com/
And she has trouble styling blocks of markdown. Since <div
markdown=1>markdown here</div> does not work on my Debian markdown
binary.
Is there a formal definition of markdown? Or some sort of conformance
test? And certain markdown implementations I should be using, and
certain ones I should be

DatabaseCorruptError
Hi there,
My web app uses Xapian via the PHP bindings. I'm getting this error
thrown occasionally when atempting to instantiate a XapianDatabase
object for searching.
DatabaseCorruptError: Expected block 107 to be level 1, not 0
Here's the line that invokes it:
$database = new XapianDatabase(PROJROOT.'/data/xapian/posts');
And my version is xapian-core 1.2.3 with matchspy.

Getting back into Dovecot 2.2.5
Hi there,
I'm prompted to get into running my own mail server again with Gmail
going bad.
However I found /usr/share/doc/dovecot/example-config/conf.d/ a little
scary, since I like to have my configs as minimalistic as possible, e.g.
http://dabase.com/blog/Minimal_squid3_proxy_configuration/
So far I have:

dabase file and oplocks
Hi all,
I'm using a Linux server (A) with samba 3.0.28 which exports a directory that
contains database files (Dataflex .dat files) and that are mounted by a Linux
machine (B) that runs Samba 3.0.2. Now the problem is that the files are
corrupted when accessed by the machine B, even if the machine A exports the
directory with oplocks = no, kernel oplocks = no and level2 oplocks = no.

rake db:create fails
Hello folks,
I´m here trying to find the way to solve my problem.
When i try to run
rake db:create or rake db:create:all
the process stops and the databases are not created.
I change the directives, putting --trace before the rake db:create and
the steps are
C:\appws\cookbook>rake db:create --trace
(in C:/appws/cookbook)
** Invoke db:create (first_time)
** Invoke db:load_config (first_time)

validates_presence_of
I am just going through the book and I come across a problem with the
code in the app/models:
validates_format_of :image_url,
:with => %r{^http:.+\.(gif|jpg|png)$}i,
:message => "must be a URL for a GIF, JPG, or PNG image"
It seems to moan when it''s empty even though I removed :image_url from
validates_presence_of. How should I make it optional?

Frequency table
This must be FAQ, but I can't find it in archives or with a site search.
I am trying to construct a frequency table. I guess this should be done with
table. Or perhaps factor and split. Or prop.table. cut? findInterval? Argh!
Please correct me if what I am looking for is not called a "frequency table".
Perhaps it's called grouped data.

Rewriting URLs - help needed
Hello -
I''m grappling with some tricky URL rewriting with Apache 2 and mod_rewrite,
and could use a hand.
Briefly:
URL for application is: www.servername.com/path/to/app/
There is no Alias directive; the application is in the directory
/www/content/path/to/app/ on the server file system.
The FastCGI dispatcher (dispatch.fcgi) lives at:
/www/fcgi-bin/path/to/app/dispatch.fcgi

Samba slow on MacOSX Yosemite
Samba is very slow through Finder on our Gigabit network (she's using
a USB3 adaptor), especially when it comes to listings and such on my
wife's computer.
This is my samba configuration on Archlinux:
http://s.natalian.org/2016-05-14/smb.conf
(I'm always running the latest
https://www.archlinux.org/packages/extra/x86_64/samba/)
And this what the mount looks like on the MBP:

Comparing linear regression coefficients to a slope of 1
Hi!
I have a question that is probably very basic, but I cannot figure out how
to do it. I simply need to compare the significance of a regression slope
against a slope of 1, instead of the default of zero.
I know this topic has been posted before, and I have tried to use the
advice given to others to fix my problem. I tried the offset command based
on one of these advice threads as follows:

Samba slow on MacOSX Yosemite
Hi Kai,
(I recognised your smb.conf - I have your 'Samba sharing with undelete'
blog post bookmarked at the moment to try for myself, so thank you for that
one!)
Is this performance issue something recent, or has it always been a similar
speed? I also find my samba shares to be very slow to obtain directory
listings in Finder on OSX.
If something has changed recently and it is running

Windows 10 share failing
I think its related to
https://lists.samba.org/archive/samba/2016-September/202918.html
I am not very competent at Bugzilla. I scanned the list on
https://bugzilla.samba.org/buglist.cgi?quicksearch=windows%2010 and I
couldn't find one I could track for this problem to be fixed.
I filed an issue upon https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/50847 since I use Arch.
I will try and provide a tcpdump

compositional time series
Dear R users,
i am wondering if anyone has some hints for this problem (i have not found a clear answer after searching the R-mailing list archive, 'help.search' in R, and R-Wiki, and the like...):
let's assume that i have 4 periods compositional time series data:
t=1, A=0.1; B=0.5; C=0.4
t=2, A=0.2; B=0.4; C=0.4
t=3, A=0.5; B=0.3; C=0.2
t=4, A=0.4; B=0.3;
