FreeBSD 7.0-RC3 (for amd64/i386 only) Available
We're doing a "mini-RC3" to encourage testing of the Highpoint driver
(hptrr) backout. Testing of 7.0-RC2 showed there were problems with the
driver update done between RC1 and RC2.
Because it's a "mini-RC" targetted at testing of one particular thing we
have not bothered with setting up FreeBSD Update. You can use the
normal cvsup-and-build method of doing an update

I figured I'd grab a copy of the recent 6.1-BETA4 (disc1) ISO to

It seems to have worked, but I got a bit of a whine

FreeBSD 10-CURRENT and 9-STABLE snapshots
Hi,
A number of FreeBSD users have displayed interest in the availability
and testing of -STABLE and -CURRENT snapshot releases.
I have been working on generating snapshots regularly, and now would
like to announce their availability for those interested in testing.
Please note, as always with the -STABLE and -CURRENT branches, these
snapshots are not intended for production systems.

disk image creation, step by step
Hi,
I am aware that it is impossible to netboot ISO files through
pxelinux/memdisk
and that there are multiple reasons for not even attempting it (like the
operating system which will try to access a physical optical drive
through its
own drivers anyway, BIOS issues etc.).
When people ask questions regarding ISO support in pxelinux/memdisk, they're
mostly told to convert the ISO into a

Data authentication for geli(8) committed to HEAD.
Hi.
geli(8) from FreeBSD-CURRENT is now able to perform data integrity
verification (data authentication) using one of the following
algorithms:
- HMAC/MD5
- HMAC/SHA1
- HMAC/RIPEMD160
- HMAC/SHA256
- HMAC/SHA384
- HMAC/SHA512
One of the main design goals was to make it reliable and resistant to
power failures or system crashes. This was very important to commit both
data update and HMAC

vsftpd and Kickstart
I'm trying to setup a kickstart server that will use ftp. I created a
user account and put the ISO images in /home/centos. I created a
directory /home/centos/disc1 and mounted the first ISO image there.
When I try to do the ftp install I keep getting an error "Unable to
retrieve ftp://my.ftpserver.com//home/centos/disc1/CentOS/base/netstg2.img"
I tried different versions of the

Should I use gbde or geli?
Hello out there, everybody!
I was actually expecting to find several (hundred) threads with this
subject being discussed. To my surprise I didn't find a single one
either on these mailing lists or in the newsgroups - at least not in a
language I understand. :-)
I realize that gbde and geli are not designed to be better than the
other but that both fit different needs and different tastes.

i32 vs i32 signext for C int parameters to library functions
I'm trying to fix a longstanding bug with library function calls on
platforms where int is passed sign-extended in a register (it badly
affects SystemZ, and has a chance of affecting PowerPC64, SPARC64,
MIPS64 as well).
The problem is that, on these platforms, C int corresponds to a "i32
signext" parameter, but all LLVM passes inserting library calls
currently use just

geli or gbde encryption of slices
Hello,
I was playing around with geli an gbde after last EuroBSDCon.
I liked the idea of encrypting my data which resides in /home/$user.
Since this is a "single" user laptop i intended to encrypt the
whole /home partition. Well no problems with that. But i wanted
the lockfile or keyfile on a seperate usb disc. Which would be
mounted or used during boot of the system. I also used

samba connection problem when volume is under LVM snapshot
Hello,
I have a problem when uploading file to samba server when the share's volume
is under lvm snapshot. I always got "The specified network name is no longer
available", this happens when uploading large files like 500MB and the
volume has a lvm snapshot(even 1 snapshot). If there are no snapshots,
everything is ok, I can transfer large files without problem. my client is

Bug#811936: blktap: FTBFS with GCC 6: defined but not used
Package: blktap
Version: 2.0.90-4
Severity: important
User: debian-gcc at lists.debian.org
Usertags: ftbfs-gcc-6 gcc-6-unused-const-variable
This package fails to build with GCC 6. GCC 6 has not been released
yet, but it's expected that GCC 6 will become the default compiler for
stretch.
Note that only the first error is reported; there might be more. You
can find a snapshot of GCC 6 in
