Thanks for the suggestion Tony, I installed each codec for MoH, core sounds, and extra sound packages. Unfortunately the tests produce the same results. best editor for .R files
Which is the best editor for .R files? I currently use kate on my linux as it has R highlighting and allows me to split the window into two: in one I edit the .R file and in the other I have a shell so I run R and can easily copy and paste the code. There are some features that I don't like and I am having a look on some alternatives. I've heard wonders of emacs with ess but I am a

IPtables Possibility
Hi, I just wonder if I can replace PIX firewall with machine having IPTable as my firewall. I want to control our firewall but due to the lack of knowledge in configuring PIX, i want to replace it with Linux or BSD. I do not have the time now to learn the complexity of PIX and yet I want to know what happening in my firewall and control it as much as possible. Do you think it is justifiable for

How to separate a data set by its factors
I have a large data set of airport data and wish to analyze it by hour and day of the week. hour and day of the week are factors. I can do something such as: histogram(~(Arrival.Val) | DAY*Hour, type="count", breaks=60) which displays the data the way I want it in principle, but the plots are too small to read. I added layout=c(7,6,4) to the argument list, but then I only get the first

[LLVMdev] LLVM pre-built libraries download? (OBJ_ROOT structure)
I am just beginning to use LLVM, and find that 'getting started' is the steep part of the learning curve. I am using MingW and msys, which I have not fully grokked yet. Anyway, actually building the libraries from source is turning out to be difficult. I want to work with LLVM as described in the except from the LLVM FAQ below. I am using C++, so the FFI is a non-issue. Can someone

Pros and Cons of R
Hi, I am doing a very informal presentation for my office about R capabilities to deal with and analyze spatial data, display data and maps, and connections with GIS. I've used in my presentation info from the CRAN, the spatial Task view, and the more striking graphics examples from http://addictedtor.free.fr/graphiques/thumbs.php and NCEAS

Installing R on 64-bit Solaris 2.8 --- follow-up
Hello R-users, thanks to Brian Ripley and Roger Peng for there prompt replies on installing R on a Solaris 64-bit machine. R is now running and seems to be doing fine. I realy would like to have access to the manuals so I can climb most of the learning curve on my own -- I am a long time user of Splus, hence I am not expecting the learning curve to be too steep. On the Sun machine that R is

The hidden costs of GPL software?
Hello, In the latest 'Scientific Computing World' magazine (issue 78, p. 22), there is a review on free statistical software by Felix Grant ("doesn't have to pay good money to obtain good statistics software"). As far as I know, this is the first time that R is even mentioned in this magazine, given that it usually discuss commercial products. In this article, the analysis

R Kaplan-Meier plotting quirks?
Hello. I apologize in advance for the VERY lengthy e-mail. I endeavor to include enough detail. I have a question about survival curves I have been battling off and on for a few months. No one local seems to be able to help, so I turn here. The issue seems to either be how R calculates Kaplan-Meier Plots, or something with the underlying statistic itself that I am misunderstanding. Basically,

Howto fit normal curve into histogram using GGPLOT2
Currently, I am doing it this way. x <- mtcars$mpg h<-hist(x, breaks=10, col="red", xlab="Miles Per Gallon", main="Histogram with Normal Curve") xfit<-seq(min(x),max(x),length=40) yfit<-dnorm(xfit,mean=mean(x),sd=sd(x)) yfit <- yfit*diff(h$mids[1:2])*length(x) lines(xfit, yfit, col="blue", lwd=2) But since, ggplot2 has more appealing

Can anyone recommend a call accounting solution with rating for post paid billing that works well with asterisk using the account code or any other info from the CDR? I don't want the billing software to any phone calls for me, therefore any solution that modifies my extensions.conf is out, nor does it have to allow for customers the ability to log in to check their usage/balances. Kaplan-Meier plotting quirks
Better would be to use interval censored data. Create your data set so that you have (time1, time2) pairs, each of which describes the interval of time over which the tag was lost. So an animal first captured at time 10 sans tag would be (0,10); with tag at 5 and without at 20 would be (5,20), and last seen with tag at 30 would be (30, NA). Then survit(Surv(time1, time2,

Phabricator -> GitHub PRs?
