Pam-logon failure for AD users
Thanks rowland, I understand that there was a mess. and now i changed the
smb.conf with the above as you instructed to be. But still i found same
issue. I have two systems which connect to same AD. i found to different
winbind logs. One uses pam_auth and other one which is not working uses
pam_auth_crap while using pam logon. I browsed on this but unfortunately i
am not able to find anything

Fedora and CentOS no longer on speaking terms
I have just upgraded my server from CentOS 5 to CentOS 6 and am having
connectivity problems. My laptop runs Fedora 14, and I have been in the habit
of mounting data partitions on my server by fstab entries. Since the update
I've not been able to do that. On watching the messages during a reboot I saw
a statement that the connection was denied by the server (where are those

File deleted while locked
Hi,
I'm running Samba 4.0.0 on a RHEL 6.4 machine and have created a simple share with all the default configuration options. I've also created an application (running on the RHEL box) that does the following:
- detects a file appearing in the share (using Inotify looking for the IN_CLOSE_WRITE event)
- open and fcntl lock the file
- do some processing
- move the file to somewhere else

Excluding ConsoleKit in kickstart
Hi,
I'm working on automating virtual machine installs using kickstart files
and virt-install. The problem I have is that these kickstart installations
install different packages than a minimal manual install. While I got rid
of some of them I can't seem to prevent ConsoleKit from getting installed.
I put "-ConsoleKit" in the packages section and later also added packages
that

When WinXP users login to the samba domain a text file opens that contains:

This seems to be tied to the roaming profile, it only surfaced once I
enabled roaming profiles but I am not sure how to correct it. I also
noticed that the desktop background setting is

keytabs basics linux <=> AD ?
hi users
a novice here hoping to grasp fundamentals soon
I have a samba+sssd as a client to an AD - I have all the
keytabs for a host(I think) but I noticed weird(to me at
least) smbclient behavior.
when I do:
$ smbclient -L swir -U me at AAA.PRIVATE.DOM -k
all works, clients sees local samba's shares, when I do:
$ smbclient -L swir.private.aaa.private.dom -U
pe243 at AAA.PRIVATE.DOM -k

Move from roaming to local profiles
We are migrating all of our users from the current domain to a new one we created. In this process we are moving them from roaming profiles to local. What would be the best practice to accomplish this? I can find plenty of writeups on how to do the opposite. Also we will be doing some extra folder redirection. Currently we only redirect their my documents to the server. On the new system we plan

Using ldap to check last password modification date
Hello,
For a portal I'm working on, I need to know if changing the unicodePwd
attr with LDAP also updates pwdLastSet (so the account doesn't get
locked). It seems the answer is yes, but the value I get from
pwdLastSet is somewhat weird:
pwdLastSet: 130753269490000000
That is Wed, 08 Jun 2011 11:31:34 GMT
Why? Is that epoch or something else? Is there anything else I need to
update when

Using ldap to check last password modification date
Thanks Rowland. That makes sense :-)
BTW, Is the following code enough to change the password with python-ldap?
con.sasl_interactive_bind_s("", sasl_auth)
mod_attrs = [
(ldap.MOD_REPLACE, 'unicodePwd', new_password),
(ldap.MOD_REPLACE, 'unicodePwd', new_password)
]
con.modify_s('CN=%s,CN=Users,DC=lxc,DC=com % username, mod_attrs)
Thanks!

Problems with ubuntu karmic x64
Hello.
I've tried to install R on ubuntu and all succeeded untill I searched for
the icon to execute, simply didn't appear anywhere.
I wrote in terminal:
*sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list*
then
added with :
*##EstadĂstica con R
deb http://cran.es.r-project.org/bin/linux/ubuntu karmic/*
saved,
*sudo apt-get update*
and
*sudo apt-get install r-base*
as instructions say.
Then I tried to

from Cyrus to Dovecot, seen status on cyrus.index files
Hello,
Using cyrus2dovecot (https://github.com/a-schild/cyrus2dovecot) I have
migrated some test mailboxes from Cyrus (2.4.17) to Dovecot (2.2.9).
The problem I'm having is that the seen status is in cyrus.index files,
which cyrus2dovecot doesn't understand.
Does anyone use cyrus2dovecot for migrations? If so, how do you deal with
seen status when it is stored in the .index files?

Encrypted volume - how?
Hi all,
I'm looking for a way to recreate the functionality of PGP Disk (under
Win32). Basically, create an encrypted file, which contains a filesystem
which can then be mounted in any mount point.
I know I can use GELI in FreeBSD 6 - as I understand, it performs the
encryption at the partition level (the whole partition is encrypted).
I'd like to be able to simply unmount my
