Backups & Snapshot Support
Are there any plans for a type of "snapshot" support, which could be use to make point in time consistent backups, similar to what lvm would allow you to do for a local volume? I'm really looking for a good way to back up my ocfs2 volume, but so far, all we've been able to use is rsync and custom scripts. Are there any other options? -- Michael S. Moody Sr. Systems

Extremely slow on certain files
I'm trying to rsync a large data set (approx 140K files, 4TB) between machines directly connected on gigabit ethernet. Normally it runs around 20MB/sec, which is acceptable. However, it seems like there is one particular file that is giving rsync heartburn... whenever it encounters this file, the speed drops down to 150KB/sec speed within a few seconds. I don't know what's so

Data Mining in Europe, please advise
Our CEO, Dr. Dan Steinberg, is planning to visit Europe in May. He would like the opportunity to introduce statisticians (and statistically minded people) to data mining, data mining applications and to forefront data mining tools. Our algorithms are probably familiar to many statisticians (CART, MARS, MART, TreeNet and RandomForests), although it isn't necessary to be a statistician to

IOV / SR-IOV / MR-IOV for non-network hardware?
I've been looking for real-world examples of this for a long time -- mainly because I'm trying to decide whether to restrict my build-options to using only components which are all compatible with IOV. I'm thinking that the constraint would be worth it, if IOV could provide a significant performance benefit for non-network peripherals such as storage, video processing, etc. (compared

strange login problem
Hello, We run a small win95 client network served by samba on sunos and solaris. We use security=share as that is the default. The [netlogon] is on our sunos host and our users can only login in if I set public = yes. Samba is 1.9.18p3. We use security=share so the problem is not too severe, i.e. users that logon as user nobody still seem to be able to access shares with their normal

Error in clusterApply(): recursive default argument reference
Hi, I want to compute a distribution of the intersection of a graph and 'randomized' graphs induced by the permutations of node labels (to preserve the graph topology). Since I ll have many permutations to perform, I was thinking of using the snow package and in particular "parSapply" to divide the work between my 4 CPUs. But I get the following error message : Error in
