Greetings, 4 belated x86_64 updates here for CentOS-3 (I just got my 64-bit development boxes back from a show). They'll be hitting the mirrors eventually. Future updates will be much more timely. libxml2: https://rhn.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2004-615.html RPMS/libxml2-2.5.10-7.x86_64.rpm RPMS/libxml2-devel-2.5.10-7.x86_64.rpm RPMS/libxml2-python-2.5.10-7.x86_64.rpm

VMWare problems on CentOS 3.3 x86-64
Hi folks, I'm hoping someone can help with a problem I'm having getting VMWare to work on CentOS 3.3 (x86-64). I recently downloaded VMWare workstation 4.5 (not sure of exact version number but its the latest version as of yesterday). I was hoping to run CentOS as my main OS and then use VMWare to still support Windows XP machines and run the couple of applications which refuse to

kernel source kernel-devel-smp-2.6.9-42.0.3.EL RPM
Dear list, for the purpose of installing a qlogic driver into my system, I need the exact kernel source version mentioned above. The kernel version is a dependency for the cluster suite (for centos4) package, which has been installed using yum (yum install cman gfs [...]). Where can I get the kernel source for this exact version? The only one which is offered to me by yum is version

Alternative architecture CentOS 3 builds?
Hi there. Although RHEL 3 is available for several different architectures, CentOS appears to only be available for the i386 architecture. Are alternative architecture rebuilds outside the scope of the CentOS project, or is there some other specific reason for that? If one wanted to rebuild CentOS for, let's say the AMD64 architecture, would that be a difficult process, or is it just

3.3 -> 3.4 transition
maybe some of the 3.4 beta discussion has covered this, i wasn't watching it too closely. what is going to be the process to convert a system from 3.3 to 3.4? will a simple yum update work? or do we have to do something more intentional to make it happen? how does redhat handle u3->u4 updates? i assume that since u4 has been published that security patches from rh will only apply to

looking for motherboard / temp / hdd monitor, other than lmsensors
Hi all What other good temp / motherboard / fan speed / HDD / etc monitor can I use on CentOS 5.1 (or even 5.2 - still need to upgrade)? I know lmsensors works ok'ish, but it doesn't pickup my Gigabyte motherboard properly. -- Kind Regards Rudi Ahlers CEO, SoftDux Web: http://www.SoftDux.com Check out my technical blog, http://blog.softdux.com for Linux or other technical stuff,

CentOS 7 + Dell Latitude E6420 laptop = thermal shutdown
Hi, Thanks for reading this. I installed CentOS 7 (tried the latest ISO image and the previous build) on the laptop and got to the point where I am logging into the desktop environment and the laptop just shuts down. I check the event log in BIOS and find that a thermal event has occurred and the system powered off to prevent damage. I can take the same laptop with Windows 7 installed and run

rsync error: unexplained error (code 255) at main.c(925)
Hi All, I'm new to this group so please be gentle, I have scoured the internet and gone all through the archives & FAQ's looking for an answer to this. I'm using v2.5.5 of rsync which I compiled from source on a Solaris 9 box. I'm connecting to a Linux machine over SSH and pulling files back to me. The section from the log that shows the error with vvv verbosity is...

what requires lm_sensors?
I found that lm_sensors got installed because of a dependency on my first Xen VM that I updated to 5.3. lm_sensors doesn't make sense in a VM. I thought, ok let's check after the update who wants it. However: rpm -q --whatrequires lm_sensors no package requires lm_sensors (same for --triggeredby with lm_sensors or the packages below) Trying to remove lm_sensors reveals these packages:

5.0--> 5.1 lm_sensors "General Parse Error"
Problem and solution, not sure if correct After upgrading to 5.1 and restarting, lm_sensors complained "General Parse Error." Google pointed here: http://www.lm-sensors.org/wiki/Devices Where I found this under "SENSOR CHIP DRIVERS - STATUS" AMD --> "Since Kernel 2.6.19" Latest AMD K8 processors have integrated sensors which can be read directly without any

LM_SENSORS
Sorry if this has been around many times before, but I've done quite a bit of reading and searching for some type of human readable guide for setting up the lm_sensors for hardware monitoring. I've dorked around with the stuff in the system here, but after looking at the /etc/sensors.conf, I don't think I want to delve into that and try to pull out the right group of settings.

Resizing a fat filesystem on a USB partition
Hi All, I feel this is the most simple question but I am currently going around and round in circles and searches keep bringing me up Windows tools!! :-( I have a 512MB USB drive that has a 12MB FAT16 partition on it. How can I resize this 12MB partition to grow and fill the whole 512MB drive? Just in case I am being stupid, here is what I am doing... :-) I would like a quick USB drive that

lm_sensors and Shuttle
Hi All, I'm trying to get lm_sensors to work on a Shuttle with an AMD K10. The version of lm_sensors in the main CentOS repo is 2.10.7, which is two years old now. Support for the K10 was added about a year ago. So, does anyone know if there are binaries available for more recent versions of lm_sensors? Also, if anyone has knowledge of the sensors layout for recent Shuttle AMD motherboards,

How do I identify my hardware?
I'm a little new to CentOS and very rusty on Linux in general (it's been 7 years since I worked on a Linux kernel), so this may seem like a dumb question. I have two issues with my machine - sound and video. My sound card is not recognized at all (I think it's on the mobo, but I'm not sure how to identify it), and I have an ATI dual video card with two screens, but both show
