Installing SerNet Debian Samba
I've got myself in a bit of a pickle trying to install the latest
Samba 3.6.20-31 package from SerNet on a Debian Wheezy server. The
installed Debian version of Samba was 3.6.6.
It's an off-line test server, and I'm still getting to grips with
Debian, so no harm done, but I'd like to know the proper procedure
to install this software!
What I've done is:

How to install a replacement PDC?
I?m testing moving a current Samba PDC configuration from an
existing Unix server to a new Debian server, and as expected, can?t
login to the new PDC from a PC which had been connected to the old
PDC.
The new Debian Samba configuration is working okay in that I can
join a new PC to it, login, and access shares.
In a test environment I renamed the Debian server?s host and domain
names to

Win7 login script not running
I?ve got a 4.1.3 Samba PDC Server on Debian Wheezy. It?s running
in Classic mode ? all existing clients are Windows XP Pro.
I?m installing a Windows 7 Pro 64-bit PC, and have managed to join
it to the domain, but can?t get the user?s login script to run.
The login scripts work fine on XP.
The pertinent sections of smb.conf contain:
logon script = %U.bat
logon drive = G:

Looking for gfs2-kmod SRPM
I'm searching for the SRPM corresponding to this installed RPM.
% yum list | grep gfs2
gfs2-kmod-debuginfo.x86_64 1.92-1.1.el5_2.2
It is missing from:

What I need from the SRPM are the patches. I'm working through
some issues using the source code, and the patches in the RedHat

Unable to join samba4 to AD as a DC
Hello,
I'm trying to get samba4 up and running as a DC in a lab environment.
I have a freshly installed AD environment (W2012R2 servers, W2008R2
functional level) and I'm trying to join samba4 to it as a domain
controller.
When I try, I get this:
# samba-tool domain join ad.netdirect.ca DC -Uadministrator
--realm=AD.NETDIRECT.CA -W AD
Finding a writeable DC for domain

Which Samba version?
Following on from my post about problems installing SerNet on
Debian, and Rowland?s suggestion to start ?yet again, forget
sernet, download and compile samba 4.1.1 and then use it just like
samba 3.6?.
I?m looking to migrate an existing Samba 3.1 PDC to a new server,
and thought that using the latest 3.6 release made sense. I have
to replicate the old server on the new one, and make sure

Samba 4 and Debian
I've wasted the last two days trying to get various versions of samba 4
packages getting to run under Wheezy.
? Wheezy's own packages are incomplete betas.
? Inverse provides their own packages (for SOGo), but they only care
about getting their one use case to work; smbd doesn't work all, winbind
has problems, and the postinst script resets my smb.conf with nonsense.

4.1.11/DebianWheezyBackports vs. 4.1.12/Sernet
Hi all,
I wonder if there are any pro/cons between
using Samba4 of Debian's official Wheezy-backports repository which actually is version 4.1.11
-or-
using Samba4 of Sernet's official repository which actually is on version 4.1.12
I understand that Sernet's package at that moment is more recent, but recently I had an issue which was Debian/Samba4 related and unfortunately I made

sernet samba4 on Ubuntu
Yes, it did install a bunch of packages from the sernet site.
So far all the tests are failing. Seems that Sernet put samba under
slightly different directories so I am struggling with testing.
I was hoping there was some documentation on sernet site that I was
having trouble finding, obviously not.
Give me some time. It is just different again (from CentOS howto I had
used in the past.)

samba4 smb.conf directive "dns recursive queries" unkown
Hi there,
I build a samba 4.0.11 on a Debian Wheezy from source, joined a existing
AD (samba works with internal dns) and have this smb.conf:
=======
# Global parameters
[global]
workgroup = DOMAIN
realm = DOMAIN.local
netbios name = SAMBA1
server role = active directory domain controller
allow dns updates = nonsecure
dns recursive queries = yes

Join AD fails DNS update
This topic has been on the list two years ago, already, but apparently
to no conclusion.
I'm trying to join a Debian Wheezy machine (Samba 3.6.6) to my freshly
made backports AD (Samba 4.1.7). This is what I see:
root at samba4:/# net ads join -U Administrator at AD.MICROSULT.DE
Enter Administrator at AD.MICROSULT.DE's password:
