serialization of external pointers
Hello, I'm looking for examples of how to handle serialization of external pointers. We use external pointers intensively in Rcpp for modules and one popular request is to have persistence. And I guess we need to be able to serialize/deserialize external pointers for this. Also, module objects are all instances of reference classes, so maybe that can be handled at the R level ? Romain

About xapian serialization on float/double variables
Dear Members of Xapian Project, Sorry for troubling you this time. It can be witnessed that xapian will store Document values with serialization approach when given value types meet float/double. Such an approach is deployed on sort_key related fields as well, where the xapian requires KeyMaker::operator() must return an serialized float/dobule variable. Then heap sort comes and ranks

Serializing many small objects efficiently
Hi, sorry if this question is trivial or unclear, this is my first venture into mixed C/R programming (I am reasonably experienced in each separately). I am trying to write a serialization function for a format called typedbytes, which is used as an interchange format in Hadoop circles. Since I would need to serialize according to the internal R format many small R objects I looked at the c

serializing recordedplot object
I use recordPlot() to save plots to disk that I render later to a variety of formats. This works fine for base R plots and ggplot2 plots, and also used to work for lattice plots. However somewhere in version 2.14 things stopped working for lattice plots. Here is an example: library(lattice); histogram(rnorm(100)); x <- recordPlot(); saveRDS(x, "myplot.rds"); y <-

Reference classes: accessor functions via 'getRefClass(...)$accessors(...)'
Hi there, I''d like to choose between an "static" and "dynamic" access of a reference class field, say ''a''. myObj <- getRefClass("Blabla")$new() Static: myObj$a Dynamic: myObj$a.get() where the function retrieves the data from a database (or some other location), stores it to a buffer and

error unserializing ascii format (v2 or v3)
I ran into an interesting error unserializing a file created with ascii=TRUE: R 3.5.1 (Windows or Linux): > unserialize(serialize(list(raw=as.raw(c(39,41))), NULL, version=2, ascii=TRUE)) Error in unserialize(serialize(list(raw = as.raw(c(39, 41))), NULL, version = 2, : ReadItem: unknown type 29, perhaps written by later version of R The same error happens when the

checking existence of active bindings
Is there any way to check whether an active binding exists without actually calling the active binding? I'd like to be able to do something like exists("x", ...) and know whether "x" exists without actually fetching its value if it is an active binding (because it could consume significant resources to fetch the value). The documentation for exists() doesn't

MakeActiveBinding help needed
Hi, I wanted a Q&D way to open a new graphics window but keep the focus in the console window (under Windows and the Rgui), so I wrote a line into my Rprofile.site file as follows: invisible(makeActiveBinding('newdev', function(...) dev.new(restoreConsole=T), .GlobalEnv)) (That is all on one line, incase the mailer re-parses it). This gives me a command "newdev" which

-x option inoperative with "bind" mounts
Hello, I have this mount defined in /etc/fstab: /backup/current/usr/local/share/premier /var/www/g5/trunk/Naxos none bind,ro When I backup /var with rsync using (among other) the -x option (one filesystem) then the whole contents of /backup/current/usr/local/share/premier are also backed up as they are mounted on /var/www/g5/trunk/Naxos. Is this expected behavior? I thought -x would exclude

RPC on LLVM IR: any example programs for this?
Hi everyone, I want to use an LLVM new feature (llvm::orc::remote::RPCBase) to implement a simple RPC framework between two LLVM modules. It seems by this new class we can do serialization/deserialization on LLVM IR type system directly. But I haven't found any helpful stuff on google showing me how to use these RPC APIs. Can anyone give me some hints or example programs showing me how to use

makeActiveBinding warning
A while ago Luke Tierney remarked that the warning associated with 'makeActiveBinding'-- "saved workspaces with active bindings may not work properly when loaded into older versions of R"-- should probably be removed in R-devel. It's still cropping up *sporadically* with R-alpha of 3/4/2004, but not every time I call 'makeActiveBinding'. So, two questions: (i) is it

Experiments with a replacement for the bitcode format
Hello, Disclaimer: I have no plan to break 3.x bitcode compatibility in any way. I’m experimenting with ideas to improve the current bitcode serialization and deserialization in general. I’m interested in improving the speed and the flexibility of the reader/writer, as well as making the code easier to deal with. My current griefs against our bitcode format are mainly the lack of built-in

Surpising behavior when using an active binding as loop index in R 4.0.0
Hi, I stumbled upon a surprising behavior when using an active binding as a loop index variable in R 4.0.0. In contrast, the behavior observed in R 3.6.1 is in line with my expectations. Consider the code below: makeActiveBinding("i", function(value) { if (missing(value)) { x } else { print("set") x <<- value } }, globalenv()) i <- 1 # output

[LLVMdev] APFloat.h header file usage
Hi, I'm trying to separate the Support, System, ADT and Config header files into the support module, per previous plans. However, APFloat.h is not self-contained: APFloat.h:105:43: error: llvm/Bitcode/SerializationFwd.h: No such file or directory APFloat.h:106:37: error: llvm/CodeGen/ValueTypes.h: No such file or directory As you can see, APFloat.h depends on things that are not in the ADT,
