Rsync in daemon mode
Hi,
I am a newbie to Rysnc and a had a quick question, the answer for which I wasn't able to find in the documentations.
Currently I have Solaris system A which has files that are being generated and changed in real time. I am running rysnc in daemon mode on A.(server)
On system B I use the appropriate rysnc command to connect to system A and sync all the files on B. I am having

multi-threaded rsync for a single gzip file
Hi,
I'm transferring a huge gzip file approximately 6GB over the WAN. I was
wondering if there is a way which I can initiate a
multi-threaded(multi-connection) rsync for transferring one gzip file?
Could someone kindly show me how it should be done?
Thanks.

rsync and samba
If anyone has time to look at this problem I would appreciate it.
I think I am looking for a way to increase the "timeout" in samba (in the
smb.conf file)
for reporting a "down" link or "can't read xyz file".
However I am writing to you folks because this problem has come up while
using rsync

Rsync feature request
I would like to suggest a feature that I believe would help out one
usability aspect of rysnc. The patch I am suggesting will allow the
rysnc module to return 1 of multiple secrets from the password file,
essentially allowing you to check ANY user's (whom belong to a team)
secret to see if it matches.
For example: For 2 users (user1 and user2) belonging to team1, it
would check

[PATCH] Change the date format used in RHEV OVF output
Date formats were previously undefined in RHEV's OVF output. They are now
defined as: 'yyyy/mm/dd hh:mm:ss'.
This change updates dates output by virt-v2v to use the new format.

rsync is fantastic except for one usual feature we want from it .. please help ?
Hi,
Rsync is a fantastic program, and it does everything we need in terms of
file transfer and syncing source and destination file directories.
We do have a situation now where we need rsync to transfer the files
once only from the source directory. Please let me briefly explain
using a simple generic exmple:
1. At t0, we transfer f0 location A to location B
2. At t1, 10 new

Are there any current, in play plans, to multi-thread rsync?
I am looking for an enhancement to multi-thread or parallelize rsync.
Are there any plans that would allow one to set a parameter, like
'number_of_threads' and
rsync will ship multiple files at the same time?
Sincerely,

2.4-beta fixes for MinGW
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
With these one can build 2.4-beta (AKA 2.3.99.0) with mingw32 (gcc-4.7.0).
Note, however, that win32 subdirectory is:
1) Lacking a complete Makefile.am, so it can't be built with autotools.
2) Depends on MFC, and MFC is not provided by any MinGW toolset (and
MS' MFC is, most likely, highly incompatible with MinGW).
So you only get a console

rsync-2.6.2: NFS clients confused after an rsync
We use rsync to update an nfs server. After an update, we noticed that
a large number of clients didn't see the updated data.
It took me a while to be able to reliably reproduce this problem, but it
happens on old and new versions of rysnc. It also happens across all
the platforms we use here (sun/linux/netapp).
This shows the problem: [Note my home directory is NFS mounted]

Multi-Thread Theora Encoder
Hello,
I'm happy to announce I developed a Multi-Threaded version of the
Theora encoder. I changed the Motion Vector Search part of the
algorithm to be executed in parallel.
I've chosen the Motion search part after a careful set of profilings
that shown that the Motion Vector Search is responsible by 70% of
CPU-time on average and up to 95% of CPU-time in some cases. I also
have chosen

Hi All,
I have installed rysnc-2.6.3 on my debian linux (
2.2.20-idepci #1 Sat Apr 20 12:45:19 EST 2002 i686).
While configuration it was

rsyncd.conf as detault configuration file.. but it has
not been created anywhere in system.

Rsync error 23 /Partial transfer / workaround needed (fwd)
Hi, I posted a list of problems I was having with rsync 2.5.5 (on
Digital Unix 4.0f) which I've now been able to address thanks to some
kernel tuning but I still have one outstanding problem - I still have
situation where files which are added to the filelist for updating on
the remote end are deleted by the client systems' web software
before they are sent - at least I believe this is

I would like to propose rysnc feature to our customer.
Do you have any reference case from other company that
there is using rsync in the production server?

rsync getting stuck while "building file list"
Hello Samba Team,
We are using rysnc utility for transferring ~90GB data across the machines.
We noticed that for small folders, rsync is working fine but the moment we
switch to 90GB folder, it gets stuck at "building file list". We even left
it running overnight e.g. 16 hours but it never came out.
We are using simple rsync syntax
#rsync -av --delete /data1 server2:/data

rsync with delete option creates and deletes dot files
All,
I have an rsync based backup process which uses rsyncd on the source,
to backup to a directory on the client.
I have rsync version 3.1.2 on the client and 2.6.8 on the source host
(daemon).
The rysnc command I use is;
/usr/bin/rsync -aHzS --partial --numeric-ids --delete --timeout=3600 \
--contimeout=180 \
--exclude-from=/path/to/excludelist \

NULL ptr dereferences found with Calysto static checker
Hi,
I've ran my static checker Calysto on openssh and found the following bug:
Possible NULL-ptr deref (vc536):
@/work/benchmarks/SOURCES/openssh-4.6p1/moduli.c:173
+ ptr gtm returned from gmtime dereferenced without checking (gmtime can
return NULL).
There are probably more possible NULL-ptr dereferences, but Calysto
currently does not check the usage of library functions (for instance,

option for multi thread or multi core machines
I notice that R basic installation does not take advantage of multi-thread or multi-core processors. Is there an option for multi-threaded processors? I currently run all of my analysis on thinkpad laptop and most processing is very quick, however, when I run stepAIC with interaction terms it can take a couple of hours to complete. I have tried running the same process and a quad core machine 64
