Apps moving to laptop display when switching KVM
So I installed CentOS Stream 9 on a new Lenovo T14 Gen 4 Intel.
I have a 4x1 HDMI KVM with external monitor.
When switching the KVM, apps move between displays / workspaces in erratic ways.
More specifically, when switching out, apps on the external display
usually move to the laptop display.
This sorta makes sense for a laptop with an external display.
When the external display is

CentOS as Development Laptop?
Hi,
Is CentOS good for a desktop machine?
I have been using Fedora but the whole GNOME 3 debacle has me
scrambling for something else. I have a few "minimal" CentOS servers
but does anyone here use CentOS on their laptop?
Does wireless and suspend work ok?
Are there packages for the usual desktop stuff like libreoffice,
sylpheed and so on?

[CentOS7] switching workspace on external monitor
Hi,
I just installed CentOS 7 on my NB and I'm experiencing problem during
switching the workspace in GNOME3 environment. The workspace on my NB
display is working correctly after change from one workspace to another.
But the windows placed on the external/second display stay on the active
workspace.
I found the description and solution of this problem here:

Unable to map more than 4 workspaces to keyboard shortcuts on C7.
Hi,
I have a new install of c7 with the gnome desktop. I run it with 12 workspaces.
Normally I create the shortcuts so that ctrl+f1 maps to workspace 1 ctrl+f2
maps to f2, etc. When I goto applications -> settings -> keyboard -> shortcuts
-> navigation, I only have the ability to define "Switch to workspace" 1
through 4. There does not appear to be a way to map keyboard

Google Chrome
I have been using CentOS on my laptop for a few days now and it works
great! Great work-around for the Fedora GNOME 3 debacle.
But I'm starting to miss Google Chrome pretty seriously. Firefox is
just not what it once was. It's slow. Spell check is weak. Sometimes
it straight up fails to display pages after going "back". There are
numerous details like this that just make FF

Affordable KVM over IP switch
Hello,
Are there any KVM over IP switches that are not thousands of dollars?
Ideally a 3-4 port switch for a few hundred seems reasonable to me.

Startup programs in specific workspaces
I have a specific method of using my five GNOME workspaces to perform
certain categories of tasks when I log in on a machine, so I just had
a thought.
Is there a way to specify, say from a login script, for an application
to start up in a particular workspace, preferably with a specific
"screen" location?
Or is this a gnome question?
Thanks.

7.3: Gnome workspaces mirrored
An user is using 2 displays and configured Gnome to "Static Workspaces
only on primary display on" using gnome-tweak-tool
Till 7.2 it was working as expected. After upgrading to 7.3 the content
on the primary screen gets mirrored to all workspaces.
When switching to "Static Workspaces only on primary display off"
everything is working as expected on 7.3, too.
Any ideas?

CentOS on new Thinkpads
Is anyone running CentOS on a newish Thinkpad?
I have been using Linux as my primary workstation since about 97 and
it seems like using Linux as a desktop has slipped over the years.
After the Gnome desktop dumb-down, I have been nursing CentOS 6.8 on a
5 yo Toshiba. So I was hoping that someone has some recent real-world
experience with new Thinkpads.
So is anyone running a new Thinkpad? What

Quit asking me if I want to save the workspace!
How do you stop R from putting up a dialog box when you quit Rgui?
(I use Windows and I never save workspaces that way)

Gnome switcher and gnome windows list
Hello,
am I the only one experiencing some bugs with the latest git checkout
in the gnome switcher and gnome window list ?
When I click on one of the workspaces on gnome's switcher the cube
doesn't rotate, but the windows disappear. I don't know how to
describe it well, but it seems like the 4 faces of the cube in compiz
and my 4 workspaces on gnome-switcher are now totally unrelated

workspaces/desktops/viewports on top/bottom of cube?
I know this has probably been asked before, but, I'll ask anyways:
Workspaces/Desktops/whatever on the top and bottom of the cube, is there
any chance this will ever happen? I love how in gnome you can have work
spaces in rows/columns, and i tend to have 4-6 workspaces (well 6, but
only 4 gets used all of the time, but its nice to have the "buffer"
workspaces. since using compiz

'attach workspace' on R console File menu
Quite often I save misc functions and data objects as .RData files that I
can use in other sessions. Although I could 'Load Workspace" these files,
most of the times I prefer attaching them. It would be really convenient to
have a menu item under the File menu on the Windows R Console to allow
attaching workspaces, e.g.

Lotus Notes 7.03 crash when changing workspaces
I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 with five workspaces set up in GNOME. I assume
it's using compiz (I didn't tell it not to), which I know can interact
problematically with Wine.
I use Notes 7.03 for Windows quite happily in Wine at work. (I know
there's a Linux client, but the installer seems very hard to get hold
of casually.) As long as I use only one workspace. If I open it in one

ubuntu packages patch
hi,
For compiz ubuntu packages, I made some patchs to have a behavior of
compiz nearer to metacity. All patch are made for compiz-0.3.6 and they
are more hacks or draft than good fix, i hope they can help.
http://gandalfn.club.fr/ubuntu/compiz-patch/90-fix-no-border-window-shadow.patch
This patch fix white boxes instead of shadows for gnome-panel and other
non-standard windows on AiGLX.

selectively load some objects from old workspace
Dear Listers:
I have a question on loading objects from workspace:
suppose I have two workspaces for two approaches. My old workspace has
some objects I need for the new workspace but I don't want to load the
whole old workspace and remove most of the old objects and get what I
want. Is there an easier way to do like this:
load "some needed obj" from old workspace, which has been

How to save a complete image of the current state of R ?
Hello,
I like to save the complete state of R, i.e. including
all environments, objects/workspaces, loaded packages etc..
This wish has arisen since I am not able to reproduce
an error which occurs when running R CMD check.
Many thanks for your advice in advance.

possible workspacehandling bug
Hello, first of all I would like to thank everyone for the effort put into
the project.
I have found a quite peculiar behavior when using Xgl/compiz.
Sometimes my windows disappear, if i use ctrl+alt+shift+left/right i can end
up in an empty desktop and if I keep holding ctrl+alt+shift and move back to
the previous workspace the window moves back just as if it had been moved
previously. Also, if
