CentOS as Development Laptop?
Hi, Is CentOS good for a desktop machine? I have been using Fedora but the whole GNOME 3 debacle has me scrambling for something else. I have a few "minimal" CentOS servers but does anyone here use CentOS on their laptop? Does wireless and suspend work ok? Are there packages for the usual desktop stuff like libreoffice, sylpheed and so on? Machine is Toshiba Portege R935. It's

GoForce 5500 Driver in Toshiba Portege G900
Hello, community. Several months ago Toshiba Inc. released a new communicator - "Toshiba Portege G900". All device's features are greate, but in practice things are going another way: communicator is really SLOW. Toshiba users have found that G900 is using nVidia GoForce 5500 Chip in it and it seems like it's working partially, because of an incomplete driver. We have written a

pxelinux and Toshiba Portege 2000 problem
Hi - this is more of an FYI than anything else; I think I have alternative ways of installing. pxelinux loads quite happily on the Portege 2000, with boot agent 4.0.18, but when attempting to load the kernel (using tftpd-hpa 0.28 (the -2 Debian package, FWIW)), will receive 20 packets and then loop printing 8000. m.

memdisk speed diagnostics?
Would it be a usefull addition to memdisk's "pause" parameter if it showed the loading speed for the specified disk image file? The idea is to verify if a device is really loading an operating system's data at the intended device/controller/interface/bus (etc) speed. My own system has a habit of setting usb2.0 interface to 1.1-speeds for example. With (hopefully) bootable

problems with usb stick after suspend and wake up
Dear all, (please Cc) I am running latest kernel (3.17-rc6) and I see corruption of an usb3.0 device usb stick. Strange errors, impossibility to mount. Repeated unplugging and replugging helps sometimes, in all cases recovery is necessary. Is this a know problem, a problem of my system Debian/sid, uptodate, self-compiled kernel of the suspend program (that initiates the suspend), the usb

cptime/memdisk block size
Is there any documentation available about what block size MEMDISK uses to load (big iso/harddisk) image files? Experimenting with cptime.c32 on a Lexar Triton Jumpdrive (64GB, 170MB/s read in Windows, 150MB/s write in Windows) on bootable USB3.0 resulted in the following, depending on specified block size: * 2048 bytes --> 25MB/s * 2MB --> 61MB/s It would be nice to know at which speed

Install problems for a Toshiba NW24XCD
I am trying to install Centos on my old Portege 2490CT. Actually a pretty good box, but it does not support USB booting. Only HDD, FDD (interestingly a USB device), 'CD-Rom', or LAN. The only CDroms I have is a nice USB drive and an old PCMCIA toshiba NW24XCD drive. I have not gotten this system to boot off of my USB CDrom. It will boot of the NW24XCD. So I put the CentOS disk 1

CentOS on new Thinkpads
Is anyone running CentOS on a newish Thinkpad? I have been using Linux as my primary workstation since about 97 and it seems like using Linux as a desktop has slipped over the years. After the Gnome desktop dumb-down, I have been nursing CentOS 6.8 on a 5 yo Toshiba. So I was hoping that someone has some recent real-world experience with new Thinkpads. So is anyone running a new Thinkpad? What

Is it 1.0 yet?
OK - my last main bug was fixed a few releases ago. I know that there's no end to getting things right but there comes a point when you need to call it done. No one trusts a 1.0 to be perfect but Dovecot is already better that most 2.0 versions of other software. I vote (as if my vote counted) to call it done, declare victory, and move on to 1.01, 1.02 etc. No one is going to trus it till
