APC Smart-ups "status codes" (slightly OT)
We got replacement battery "kits" for some of our APC UPS' (Smart-UPS, rackmount). I put them into one tray (it's for an RBC 43, which takes 8, and weighs a ton), and put it in, and let it charge. Idiot "change battery" led stays on. So I hit the test button, it discharges very rapidly (a good number of servers on this), and the led stays on. For some reason,

OT: hardware: MegaCli and initializing a RAID
Got a new box I'm trying to set up. I configured the RAID from the firmware, but "fast initialize" was sitting there at 0% (it's about 43 or 45TB). The first time I tried this, I said background, and rebooted the system. And the stupid annoying alarm started up as the system came up. This time, having *finally* figured out how to set up hot spares from the WebBIOS, I suspended

Try II: selinux, xfs, and CentOS 6 and 5 issue
Tried just the selinux list yesterday, no answers, so I'm trying again. I partitioned GPT, and formatted, as xfs, a large (3TB) drive on a CentOS 6 system, which has selinux in permissive mode. I then moved the drive to a CentOS 5 system. When we run a copy (it mirror-copies from another system), we get a ton of errors. I discovered that the CentOS 5 system was enforcing. I changed it to

OT: Installing munin-node cleanly in spite of RPM
Hi, This is totally off-topic (it''s an rpm/rpmbuild problem), but I want to get to a point where I''m installing and configuring munin-node with puppet. To do that, I need a clean, standardized way of installing munin-mode on CentOS (RHELish) boxes. I could install munin-node from source via puppet and probably make enough edits that all the files end up in reasonable locations

Sorry, should've mentioned this is for home/home office. The ReadyNAS is a four-bay unit, with 500GB disks. Will want a four-bay, probably with 1- or 2-TB disks. -- Tim Evans | 5 Chestnut Court UNIX System Admin

semi-OT: perl question
We've had a ton of selinux errors recently, and the other day, one of the managers here, after I started inquiring what their perl CGI was doing, found a way to reproduce the issue at will. It seems that before I upgraded their servers from CentOS 5.x, they were trapping interrupts such as a browser breaking the connection before getting a response, and under CentOS 6, it's looking like
