enumerating group members with nss_winbind (4.0.9 as AD DC)
When I do "getent group", I want to see the group's members enumerated. With nss_ldap they are; with nss_winbind they aren't: root at gumbo:~# getent group mgmt PI\mgmt:*:1040: There *are* members there (partially redacted): root at gumbo:~# ldbsearch -Htdb:///var/lib/samba/private/sam.ldb cn=mgmt member # record 1 dn: CN=mgmt,CN=Users,REDACTED member:

is sssd *faster* than samba4's builtin winbind?
Using samba 4.0.9 as an AD DC (no other domain servers). Since my UIDs and GIDs have changed, I was doing cleanup: find /srv/svn/ -xdev '(' -nouser -o -nogroup ')' -ls I noticed this was very slow -- iostat reported only about 2tps and 50kB/s to my disks. So I timed it with nsswitch.conf users & groups set to "files" vs. "files winbind": # with

function can permanently modify calling function via substitute?
Dear R-devel: The following code seems to allow one function to permanently modify a calling function. I did not expect this would be allowed (short of more creative gymnastics) and wonder if it is really intended. (I can see other ways to accomplish the intended task of this code [e.g. via match.call instead of substitute below] that do not trigger the problem, but I don't think that is

VFS shadow_copy2 with samba 4.0.9
I am trying to use shadow copy with Samba 4.0.9 on Debian 7 (wheezy), Linux kernel 3.2. Windows 7 clients on the LAN can not see Previous Verions of files stored on the server, although I believe I have set up directories with snapshots. Here are some highlights from smb.conf :- [global] server role = active directory domain controller domain logons = yes ... [Pluto] path

Cyber Power LE1000DG UPS
I have a Cyber Power LE1000DG UPS I got from Best Buy this weekend. I plan to use it with a TrueNAS scale system, and it is connected via USB. Vendor link: https://www.cyberpowersystems.com/product/ups/battery-backup/le1000dg/. TrueNAS has you pick a UPS driver. I could not find any "LE" related models on https://networkupstools.org/stable-hcl.html (which is the list TrueNAS uses). Per

nss_windbind.so can't see groups that wbinfo -g can (4.0.9 as AD DC)
[I'm afraid $customer made me anonymize their rootdn, user and group names, so the ones below are made up. Hopefully I haven't introduced any errors in the process.] I'm running Debian 7 with samba 4.0.9dfsg1-1 built from git://git.debian.org/pkg-samba/samba. I'm using samba as an AD DC, with accounts migrated from a samba3/slapd stack using samba-tool domain classicupgrade.

[Bug 2971] New: Prevent OpenSSH from advertising its version number
Also, a lot of measurement/research on deployment of OpenSSH rely on version advertising for their statistics. It's going to be harder to know impact of deprecation of certain legacy features without statistics. I also agree with Mark here. On Wed, Feb 20, 2019 at 10:57 AM Mark D.
