Drag and Drop Sortable Tree
I''ve gone through Chad Fowler''s recipe for creating a drag and drop sortable
list, and have been trying to extend this to a sortable tree. Has anyone
come up with or seen code which allows drag and drop sorting (altering the
position and parent_id variables of the relevant objects) but for data in a
nested tree rather than a list form?

sortable or drag/drop for tables
Is either sortable or drag and drop doable for table elements ?
I looked at the wiki and didn''t see anything. Noticed the demos and
such are done with <ul><li> ''s
I''m wondering about <td> ''s ?
TIA
Stuart

examples of drag n drop
Sorry if this sounds cynical, ( i do love script.aculo.us scripts ) ,
but I am wondering if people know of some good real world
examples of uses of drag n drop and sortable lists.
such a cute script will likely be *ab*used as much as it is used.
obviously the point here is to use script.aculo.us to improve
the user interface rather than just have some k00l eFX.
e.g. the drag n drop instantly

AJAX drag and drop sorting with pagination
Drag and drop sorting is great but if you had a list of, say, 100 items,
you''d probably want to show only 10 per page.
Has anyone seen any way to use the a drag and drop style sorting method
over a number of pages?
I see it working by having the displayed list sortable as normal then an
item is moved to the next page by dragging it onto the ''next'' link...
maybe...

Sortable: Ajax not firing?
Using Rails to generate a sortable list, I get the draggable/sortable page
elements, but Ajax never fires back the post-sorted list. (I''ve checked with
IE & Firefox, the "save this order to the DB" controller hasn''t been
called.)
The View:
<p>Drag to sort.<span id="sort_info"></span></p>

Looking for specific drag and drop implementation
I finally started playing with delicious and am liking it!
I''m building an app where people can have various ''folders'' of images and
then ''sets'' of said images. A set is simply a object that links to any
number of specific image in the folders.
To create/organize a set, I''ve set up two draggables. One being a selected
folder, the other being

iframe is reloading during each sortable drag/drop point
We are creating a simple widget portal for our site and trying to use
Sortables. Each of our widgets is an iframe. But when you try to
drag an element containing an iframe the Sortables api causes the
iframe to reload at each possible drop point. This causes the ui to
shutter and become unusable.
I have narrowed the issue down the onEmptyHover where
dropon.insertBefore is called. Is there a

Error on drag n drop list after refreshing list using AJAX
My web page (developed in php and MySQL)is having a table with each
table cell having a list of related information as list item.
First, the list is performing well when page is loaded (i.e. multiple
lists are created and list items can be dragged and dropped on each
other lists).
Whenever double click on specific cell, it''ll invoked ajax function

How to make drag & drop effect like my msn''s ?
Hi,
I found that Sortable is the most similar solution, but it seems draggables
cannot be dragged back to the original container if all draggables were
dragged out the container.
And I have to drag & drop a draggable element overlap another one.

RE: drag and drop sorting with an empty lis
I ran into this issue too. My solution was to add an "onUpdate" function to
the sortable that tests the container to see if it''s got any children or
not:
function is_empty(container)
{
if ($(container).hasChildNodes()) {
Element.removeClassName($(container),''empty'');
} else if (!$(container).hasChildNodes()) {

how do I report the list order of a drag and drop list back?
Hello,
I try to report the new order of a list back to the server, after the
drag & drop is done, but I am not sure how to do it.
My ids are underscore separated like this:
<ul class="sortablelist" id="ja">
<li class="green" id="item_1">Item 1</li>
...
</ul>
I define the sortable like this:
Sortable.create("ja",

Discussion on drag-drop-and-sortable
No rocket science on the surface, but there is something slightly
clever happening here - note that the green scriptaculous draggables
take on a different CSS class or something when they''re moved over the
right hand droppable.
This warrants a look under the hood ...

Dropdown list to populate drag and drop sortable list
I''m listing bands playing shows. I want to be able to add and sort the
lineup for each show in a single form. Users select a band playing
from a dropdown list, which (using Ajax) adds the band to an unordered
list which they can then re-arrange.
Are these any tutorials online that cover this? Or can anyone shed any
light on it?
I''ve used a modified version of Cody Fausers code

Multi-level drag and drop in scriptaculous?
I am trying to create a screen like Google''s personalized home pages or
start.com, i.e., with draggable sections, with the extra feature that
the child items under the parent headings could be dragged and dropped
from one parent heading to another.
I have set up nested droppable sortables (dropOnEmpty=true) but the
behavior is very inconsistent, i.e, parents do not become droppable

Question for Gurus: Sortable Lists
I''ve been stuck on this particular problem for quite some time now. If I
don''t explain it well enough I''d be happy to explain more.
I have a group of draggables and a droppable object. I''ve created a
function for the Droppable.onDrop event so when I drop one of these items I
check (via an array) to see if it has already been added to the droppable.
If it

drag and drop sorting recipe
The new pragmatic Rails Cookbook has a drag and drop sorting recipe. Does
anyone know if this works with 1.0?
I''ve followed the recipe (i think), and I can drag but when I drop
everything goes back the way it was. It seems that the sort logic doesn''t
get invoked.
I put this code in my view:
<%= sortable_element ''task-list'' ,
:url => {
