I wanted to test zimbra on centos 6 (I'm new to centos). While installing zimbra it said there was a conflict on port 25. So I found out that postfix is the default mta on centos. I then did sudo yum remove postfix and followed the prompts for removing it, but in doing so it removed chrome that I had installed and several other packages that seem to be important. I have installed emacs with yum and now I'm trying to create a .emacs file and put some commands in it, but I can't type anything in the emacs buffer. It says the buffer is read-only. I exited emacs and did touch .emacs and I get a message that it can't do that on a read-only file system. I googled around to see why this might be, but I can't see any links on this. Any tips why

I have compiz installed on centos 6.6, and I?ve been testing 7.1, but I can't find any info on installing compiz on 7.1. Is there any info for this or is it not supported yet? Thanks, -wes

I need to change the host name on a test server, and in the past when I used hostname to change the hostname, it did not seem to change it everywhere. I really don't want to do a rebuild just yet, but I have to feel confident that hostname is really changed (reboot is not too much of an issue). What is the recommened practice? Other than get it right the first time.

Every once in awhile I see this horizontal percent bar flash up on the screen then disappear. What is that? CentOS 7.1, ? kde. -wes

The smb service is not starting automatically. I can type service smb start at the prompt and it loads, and I can then connect, but its not loading automatically as it used to. Can someone point me in the right direction as what file I need to change to make it load at startup. Thanks! Liz

I installed CentOS 7 in VirtualBox in OS X Yosemite, but the NIC is not getting an IP address. So I thought it was a problem with the thunderbolt adapter. ?I then installed CentOS 7 in VirtualBox on a box with CentOS 6.5. ?The network doesn't work in the VM either. ?Anyone tried CentOS 7 in VirtualBox (latest version) and have the network working? I checked for updates and it had 5 to do so I started that, left and came back and the update panel was gone. ?Is there a way to check what was updated? (centos 6.5) Thanks, -wes

I yum updated yesterday and it updated chrome from 44.x to 45.x. It runs but it has errors going to web pages and won't load its own settings/extension pages either. I've got an odd problem. My server will not shutdown normally because the AoE driver is not being shut down properly. While investigating the problem, I found that the aoe script is apparently not being called for shutdown. I have been able to duplicate this with a brand new test script.
