init script status checks and puppet
I''ve been experiencing some odd behavior with puppet and checking the
status of running processes. Let me see if I can explain it:
I have a very simple node.js socket server I''m attempting to puppetize. It
is managed through an init.d script with start, stop, status, and restart.
The init.d script runs perfectly fine as any other user in the system.
However, when puppet

Debian package init scripts
Dearest list,
I am using dovecot with heartbeat-2 and I noticed that the init scripts
in the Debian packages from http://xi.rename-it.nl/debian/ do not
conform to the LSB standard:
http://refspecs.freestandards.org/LSB_3.1.1/LSB-Core-generic/LSB-Core-generic/iniscrptact.html
E.g. the return code for "program is not running" is not 3.
Is there is special reason for this?
Cheers Jan

Clang -O0 performs optimizations that undermine dynamic bug-finding tools
Hi everyone,
I found that Clang -O0 performs optimizations that undermine dynamic
bug-finding tools.
First, most bug finding tools such as ASan, Valgrind, Dr. Memory, Mudflap,
Purify and Safe Sulong (on which I am working) rely on detecting errors
during the execution of the program. They either insert additional checks
during compile-time or during run-time which are executed when the program

centos 6.3, cron and mail script output
Hi all
I have a '/etc/cron.daily/push-to-backup' script which the content is:
#!/bin/bash
/usr/bin/rsync [... long options line ...]
echo "finished pushing to the backup"
Launched manually, it's OK.
Waiting for cron to execute it,
In the "/var/log/cron", I see the starting time and the finish time, and
I see it take about 10 minutes to make the job.

dont run cron.d- when cron.daily-scripts are running
EL6 context:

cronie-anacron-1.4.4-16.el6_8.2.x86_64
crontabs-1.10-33.el6.noarch
I have some cron.d entries that execute scripts in minute intervals and I'm wondering how could an
"official" way look like, to have a condition to not run cron.d entries when cron.daily scripts are
running. Sure, I can hack something around file timestamps or so but

Exists some problem with cronjobs under CentOS7
Hi all,
I am having strange problems with my cron jobs in my CentOS7 kvm
host. After the initial install and first boot, any cron job
configured had run (including cron tasks installed by some rpm
packages).
Last cron's entry log is:
Oct 9 17:01:01 santgraal CROND[9014]: (root) CMD (run-parts /etc/cron.hourly)
Oct 9 17:01:01 santgraal run-parts(/etc/cron.hourly)[9014]: starting 0anacron

[LLVMdev] CFI Directives
Hi Rafael,
I've been staring at the CFI directives and have a question. Some background: I want to generate the compact unwind information using just the CFI directives. I *think* that this should be doable. The issue I'm facing right now is that I need to know how much the stack pointer was adjusted. So when I have something like this:
