SMB2 write performace slower than SMB1 in 10Gb network
Hi forks: I've been testing SMB2 with samba 3.6.4 performance these days, and I find a weird benchmark that SMB2 write performance is slower than SMB1 in 10Gb ethernet network. Server ----------------------- Linux: Redhat Enterprise 6.1 x64 Kernel: 2.6.31 x86_64 Samba: 3.6.4 (almost using the default configuration) Network: Chelsio T4 T420-SO-CR 10GbE network adapter RAID: Adaptec 51645 RAID

tools for performace testing
Hi Xen Users, I''d like to run some performance tests with Xen. Are there some (sort of) standard test-cases or tooling? I''m thinking about using the Linux Test Project''s "Database Opensource Test Suite" (http://ltp.sourceforge.net) Does someone have any experience with this? Other recommendations? Thanks. Management: Reload performace & Realtime performance ?
Hello, I am interested in some management-performance issues: 1st Scenario: A management tool (for example a webbased one) has the following process: - write in database - read with script (for example perl) data from db and write conf files - reload asterisk I was reading around in the mailing lists and people say reloading is stable. Now this tool has to manage 1000 clients so the conf

I have noticed a significant performance degradation using merge in 2.9.1 relative to 2.8.1. quota severe performace issue help
Dear gluster experts, We have encountered a severe performance issue related to quota feature of gluster. My underlying fs is lvm with xfs format. The problem is if quota is enabled the io performance is about 26MB/s but with quota disabled the io performance is 216MB/s. Any one known what's the problem? BTW I have reproduce it several times and it is related to quota indeed. Here's the

CentOS 4.4-IBM Netvista Performace Problems, help needed.
I've got an odd situation that I need some advise on. I have two computers that I am planning to use as a cluster. I initially started with some left over Compaq Presairos with 667MHz CPUs. I loaded CentOS 4.3 and later updated to 4.4. Things ran normally, albeit slowly. I had an opportunity to upgrade to a pair of IBM Netvistas with 2.26 GHz CPUs, I did this by transferring the

Deterioration with zfs performace and recent zfs bits?
Has anyone else noticed a significant zfs performance deterioration when running recent opensolaris bits? My 32-bit / 768 MB Toshiba Tecra S1 notebook was able to do a full opensolaris release build in ~ 4 hours 45 minutes (gcc shadow compilation disabled; using an lzjb compressed zpool / zfs on a single notebook hdd p-ata drive). After upgrading to 2007-05-25 opensolaris release bits

Dropped frames streaming video to samba
Hi, We've got a setup here with a samba server in front of a fibrechannel array. It's a pretty vanilla samba setup exporting an xfs filesystem. The box is an opteron 265 with 4G RAM and a QLogic QLA2312 HBA running SLES9. We can dd an 8G file to a share from a windows workstation in just over 2 minutes (about 65MB/s) and dd back in about 4 minutes. Local disk performance in the machine

AW: Controlling the vorbis encoder precisely
Ok, related to the replys from Eric and Monty there are 3 possible solutions - 1. use lossless encoding like FLAC - 2. insert large chunks of silence between the wave sounds - 3. use completely seperate chained streams -> 1. Flac can't be used because of disk space and bandwidth limitations. -> 2. I also tried this variant but in that case my sounds don't start immediately

samba 4.x slow ...
Hi, we are running samba 4.4 on two machines as file servers. Both are running a GFS (stornext). The storage is attached using 8G HBA. You can get up to 800MB/s local speed. We are exporting the shares using 2x1GB and 2x10G. However the clients are only getting 40-50MB/s. With samba3 I think we had up to 80-90MB/s. Using a 100MB/s link for the client we see 12-13MB/s (wire speed). Using

RC1 Zfs writes a lot slower when running X
Hi, I have OpenSolaris on an Amd64 Asus-A8NE with 2gig of Rams and 4x320 gig sata drives in raidz1. With dd, I can write at quasi disk maximum speed of 80meg each for a total of 250meg/s if I have no Xsession at all (only console tty). But as soon as I have an Xsession running, the write speed drops to about 120MB/s. Its even worse if I have a VBoxHeadless running with an idle win2k3 inside. It

problems with memory allocation

problem mapping large files?
Hi all, I'm trying to use Microsoft's ImageX with Wine as part of a small Linux image to install Windows disk images. It works great for a 120Mb file, however when I try it on a 2.3Gb file, it fails with "Invalid data". The tool is designed for dealing with large files, so it looks like a problem in Wine. I reran it with +server,+relay which included the following in the
