Using Puppet for downgrading Varnish (circular dependency)
Hi all, I am trying to use puppet (2.7.18) for downgrading varnish cache on Centos Linux (6.3). Unfortunately there are two varnish RPMs (which seem to have circular dependencies): varnish-3.0.4-1.el6.x86_64 varnish-libs-3.0.4-1.el6.x86_64 When using "ensure" for downgrading I get a bunch of errors: err: /Stage[main]/Varnish/Package[varnish-libs]/ensure: change from 3.0.4-1.el6

find with exclude directory
Hey all, I'm trying to do a find of all files with the phrase 'varnish' in the name, but want to exclude a user home directory called /usr/local/digitalplatform. Here's what I was able to come up with: find / -path '/usr/local/digitalplatform/*' -prune -o -name "*varnish*" Which results in this: [root at uszmpwsls014lb ~]# find / -path

Overriding package installation source
Hi, I use a module (for Varnish in this case) which has the typical install, service, package classes. -- modules/varnish/manifests/install.pp: class varnish::install { package { $varnish::params::package_name: ensure => installed, } } -- modules/project/manifests/proxy.pp class project::proxy { include varnish } -- manifests/site.pp node proxy {

enable caching in apache
hey all, I am serving up a couple of sites using apache with varnish sitting in front of it. When I check the headers for the site, this is what I'm seeing: [root at ops:~] #curl -I http://ref.mydomain.com/ HTTP/1.1 200 OK Server: Apache/2.2.15 (CentOS) X-Powered-By: PHP/5.6.0-dev Set-Cookie: PHPSESSID=rqetkvi6l54819fffdivkppo90; path=/ Expires: Thu, 19 Nov 1981 08:52:00 GMT

compression + max file size upload liimit?
I am using Mongrel Cluster with Apache 2.2.3 + mod_proxy_balancer and would like to enable compression (assuming it improves throughtput) and limit file size upload. I configured mod_deflate and LimitRequestSize in Apache, but in my trials looks like the proxied calls bypass those directives (the conf goes below). Is there a way to get this? -- fxn NameVirtualHost *:80 # Configure the

Can anyone talk infrastructure with me?
Hi All, I started a 501c3 (not-for-profit) organization back in February 2011 to deal with information archival. A long vision here, I wont bore you with the details (if you really want to know, e-mail me privately) but the gist is I need to build an infrastructure to accommodate about 2PB of data that is database stuff, stored video, crawl data, static data sets, etc. Right now in my testing of

Can''t seem to get rewrite rules to work with Apache
Hi, I''m struggling to get an Apache rewrite rule to work. I have a simple rule that for a request to "a.html" will be sent to "b.html". However the requests for "a.html" are always sent to my Rails apps. Here is my Apache configuration: <VirtualHost 216.154.219.19:80> <Directory /u/apps/simplelog_2.0.2/public/> Options FollowSymLinks

some questions about mongrel
i posted some of these questions on the rails list, but thought that i should probably post them here instead. zed has already answered one of my questions, but i did have a couple more. 1) mongrel is not writing the pid file, which i have specified in the config file --- :cwd: /srv/www/railsapps/rftrack :includes: - mongrel :log_file: log/mongrel.log :config_script: :pid_file: log/mongrel.pid

Education - 1, 000s, 100, 000's, Millions of listeners. (What kind of infrastructure)
Dear all My 5 cents (or Rappen in CH) if it comes to serving many clients. We are running a 4 node cluster since several years ? rock solid and w/o any issues. This cluster serves many thousands of listeners from all over the world. Our source transcoder sending the audio streams to each Node. Hence, transcoding power is not an issue here. The four Nodes a geographically dispersed in 3
